More Games For Mac?

I was wondering what everyone thought about the possibility of more games coming to Mac. Seeing that Warhammer is making a Mac version got me to thinking about it again. Considering how poorly Vista operated (i know its supposed to be better now) i had thought about a Mac for my next computer but searching for games on Amazon or even Ebay i saw how few were listed compared to PC. Its my understanding the windows emulator that some users use isnt all that good so was wondering what everyone thought about the possibility of more Mac games in the futrue.

if you want a computer for gaming then get something with windows. macs are good for a few specialty uses but you get better compatibility with windows and you get alot better specs with a windows mech then an equal priced mac.
Macs are, simply put, over-priced fashion statements. Anything you can do on a Mac, you can do many different ways on a Windows machine.
Macs are ridiculously expensive for the hardware that you get. You can build an equally specced Windows based computer for usually half the price of a Mac(An example, I specced out a Dell Inspiron notebook and a Macbook pro a couple of weeks ago, the Mac cost $2400 and the Dell cost $1100). Macs give the illusion of "higher quality" due to deceptive marketting and higher prices, but the truth is the only difference in the price is the OS. The only reason you can't use the OS on a regular computer is because Apple won't allow it, not because there is anything special or better in their hardware.
If you want to play computer games, buy a Windows machine. Hell, if you want to do ANYTHING, buy a Windows machine or use Linux, I can't think of a feasible reason to actually buy a Mac over anything else beyond your school requiring one, or your deep desire to feel "unique" and "different". Vista is a pretty good operating system now, Windows 7 is just around the corner(Free upgrades from Vista to 7 when 7 comes out if you buy a Vista machine now) and it is an awesome OS.

Thanks for the replys guys. The PC i have now will run anything i want to play but was curious about Mac as a future option. Im still using xp but it will not be an option in the future. Thanks again.

just wanted to see what options were out there. Another year or so and i will upgrade what i have.
I've owned, I'm sure like lots of people, numerous PC computers, at least 25 or so in the last 15 years. I bought the new mac book pro 17 and i will never be going back to PCs. Im not going to debate the cost, but Macs do have a much higher resale value than Pcs of similar age. Ive owned this computer for 6 months and it has been by far the most smooth bug free expiernce I've had.
Ive had no problems playing any game made for PC in bootcamp mode. In my eyes, i have 2 computers. I have my mac side and the OS X that i enjoy using much more than vista or WinXP. But for my games i have vista loaded on my bootcamp that will allow me to have my game fix. There has not been any game i have not been able to run.
My opinion that more games will be coming in Mac versions like Rage and Force Unleashed: Sith edition to name a few. You have Eve, WOW, and City of heroes to name few MMORPGs have mac versions.
Im agreeing that if want purely a gaming machine, then PC is certainly better , but owing a Mac does not prevent you from enjoying gaming by any sense.
There will always be apple hate out there. Heck i was one at one time before trying. When own one, you get use the tired old arguments that its too expensive. In my opinion, this has been by far m most dependable laptop Ive ever owned.

Whats so funny? Im using Windows7 RC and right and it is a super solid OS. It IS an upgrade from XP (i never used vista). I DO believe that Windows7 is MUCH faster than XP. My boot times are Under 20 seconds and i just have a regular Western Digital Caviar Black (7200 RPM).
Not only that, but the OS is highly customizable and extremely clean. I have had no problems withcompatibility with any MMORPG or Hardware that was not designed for Windows7 *except a web cam driver*. Although, the web cam works perfectly fine without the software anyway.
Ive been gaming on macs for years now and love it. I love OSX and all of the perks that come with owning a mac (the great warranties, amazing customers service straight through the apple store, the apple store, the fact that every component inside a mac except the processor and gfx card and made by apple to work seamlessly with everything else in the machine etc) and on top of it I can run windows flawlessly through bootcamp. I get the best of both worlds! My mac experience has been grand from the very beginning. Very smooth, very bug free.
I just recently upgraded to the 15 inch unibody macbook pro:

If you get it before the school semester starts (and if you are a student, or know a student who you can have purchase it for you) you can get a smokin deal. The pricetag for this machine is 1,999. You get 200 off for being a student and you get a free printer and a free ipod touch. I sold the ipod touch for 200 (it retails for 250) so ended up getting 400 off the computer, making it $1,600. Great buy.
Now on to gaming. Ive been doing some testing over the past couple of days:
Fallout 3 on high settings flawlessly
LOTRO on very high settings with no problems at all, on ultra high with minimal hitching. This on dx10.
Darkfall on high settings with no shadows on gets me 150 fps.
Age of conan on high graphics no hitching.
I am running x64 Windows 7 (Its a great OS, even an upgrade from xp)

Also. the poor emulation that you hear about is usually because people try to use VMware or Parralles to run their games. These programs are great in that they let you run windows in a seperate windows while you are booted into OSX, but windows cannot access all of your computetrs hardware this way. The only viable option to game on your mac is by using bootcamp, which lets you run winodows natively, although you can only boot into windows OR bootcamp. I boot into windows via bootcamp when I want to game but when I just want to do some random windows stuff Ill just open it in a small windows with Parallels while Im stil using my fun OSX :
Before people jump on here and start calling me out and saying im some sort of mac fanboy and I dont know anything about gaming let me state that I am also in the midst of building a gaming PC. I love my macbook pro but of course I realize that PCs are much more versatile for gaming and I would like to have one that stays at home (that I can always upgrade) for when I am not out and about.
Really what you should be doing is googling "gaming on a macbook pro* and checking out all of the mac forums and reading about poeples experiences. On sites like these you will get nothing but biased opnions. Most mac users who game will tell you that they recognize the benefits to both platforms and these people are usually better equipped to give solid opinions and recommendations. Also youll find tons of videos of people running crysis and similar games on their macbook pros. Just make sure you are reading forums and watching videos from at least 2009.

You're almost for sure talking about this blog post which was arguably not an even comparison, especially since it used a gigantic (and rare) $650 coupon for the Dell. Here's a much more even comparison/rebuttal hardware to hardware. The second article actually shows you the specs side by side with notes and updates.
If you're going to spout your anti-Mac blather, then at least get your facts right.

When you buy a Mac, you're paying for the privilege of using the OS and the air that goes along with being a Mac owner. That's about the best way I can put it.
The hardware is generally of a little higher quality than your average PC, and most Mac users will recommend Bootcamp, not an emulator or Virtual Machine.
Frankly, I never got the big deal about OSX. It's good, sure... But it's not like mind-blowingly good. It doesn't have as many issues because Apple controls the hardware and there are only 8% of the people using Macs that there are using PCs. Less of a population doing weird things and control over the hardware pretty much eliminates most bugs.
Contrary to popular dogma, Macs are not more secure, though. There are some severe flaws in the OS that have existed for years, but honestly - if you ask the people who make Trojans/worms/etc. - it's just not worth the time to exploit Macs' lack of security.
Windows Vista x64 has been a good OS for me, and more stable than XP ever was. My brother has the W7 RC, and I have to say - I really like it. It's what Vista should have been, and I plan to upgrade when it's out.
As for the possibility of Mac games in the future - well, I kind of doubt it. Yeah, WAR is coming out with one, and Blizzard always supports Macs, but for most companies it's just not a financially viable option. Out of the 8% market share that Apple holds for PCs, I'd have to say about 50% of Mac users are college students/professors who don't game. You'd be lucky if 25% of Mac users are anything more than casual gamers. So, in essence, as a game developer, you'd be spending several thousand (if not hundred thousand) more dollars on development, delaying the release of the game by months, all for ~2% of the market.
Unless you're Blizzard, it's just not viable. When Mac gamers become 10% of the gaming population, then I'd welcome a resurgence... But I doubt that'll happen. W7 is actually a really good OS, and has a chance at bringing back a lot of people that were put off by Vista.

IMHO macs are overpriced, I used them for 2 years at school and never really saw any advantages over PC. OS X is a nice break from Windows though. If only Apple would quit hording their freaking OS I go out and buy it right now. I tried to make a Hackintosh but my hardware isn't compatible.
It makes me wonder why Mac went from PPC to Intel, oh wait hmm since you can't do much gaming on a Mac with OS X I guess they decided to let you dual boot with Windows. Apple knew they were hurting in that aspect and so they took the easy way out instead of doing what Linux and Wine is doing. Im sure if Apple teamed up with them they could make amazing progress and make it possible to game in OS X natively. But no you have to install windows on a Mac which basically turns it into a PC which is retarded IMO. Who wants to buy a mac and install windows on it?, it just don't make any sense. I rather buy a PC and dual boot with Windows and Linux and leave a mac for what is supposed to do run OS X.

Congrats on linking a 3 year old article, and an article comparing two 'name brands' at that. While Apple is the only group(legally?) that sells Macs.. You get buy cheaper and arguably better Laptops and build better Desktops for Windows much cheaper than from Dell in most cases.. Not to mention while maintaining a much larger game library(Games I want to play at least). Now personally I don't care who owns what; I have no need for a Mac, I play games, and I am loving Windows 7. However, people religiously defending their shit because they bought one.... lol
Keep trying to justify your Mac purchases.

Yes the article is 3 years old. It's showing just how outdated the stupid "Macs are more expensive" argument is that Abrahmm keeps using.
I'm not defending the Mac because I own one. I'm trying to show how outdated and incorrect the "more expensive" argument is. People can buy whatever the hell they want. I own a Mac, and two PCs. I use them for all kinds of things. I don't give a shit what anyone else uses. What I do give a shit about is people spouting crap that's completely false.
And yes, Windows has more software than Mac, but Mac software is in my experience more stable, better laid out and easier to use. "Well hey, Mac-man! We've got 45 different FTP apps!" Most are shit, but hey, who cares? It's the quantity that matters, right?
I've been using Macs nearly as long as I've been using PCs. I use both regularly. You can't convince me my Mac purchase was a bad investment. I don't care what argument you try to use.
