Some English voiceovers for you to "enjoy"

Shugo 1

Shugo 2

Elyos Lepharist 1

Elyos Lepharist 2

Mau

Asmodian 1

Asmodian 2

Pretty horrible, imho. I think I'll going with the Japanese one instead, unless these are just samplers and not the real deal once it's released.

This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.

That is correct. I'll give it a bit for the voices to ameliorate; if they don't, then at least I have a back up.

Ugh.  Not as bad as it can be, but definitely not topnotch.  They sound very campy/amateurish.... reminds me of second rate English voice overs for your typical dime a dozen anime.

I'll give it a chance, but the posted clips don't leave me very hopeful.  Will definitely have to look into the other options available...

Sound fine to me,  a lot better than Lotro's or WAR's humans who sound so constipated (which suits how they walk and stand), the goblins from WoW.. oh good gawd.... plus the crappy acting during ALL of tortage in AoC "beware the picts", "by bloody thunder", .... jeez now THOSE voices were bad.

compared to that, these are Shakespearean.

worst voice in MMO - the bloke in AoC where you have to get those 3 bricks for.... i mean i realise he's attempting to try a sort of scottish accent, but seriously i just wanna beat him to death with the bricks again and again and again

I will wait until i hear them in game to decide but ive never been a fan of japanese movies dubbed in english they always seem to overdo whatever personality they are attempting to convey.

Mostly because they change the words, meaning to suit their needs.... although some cases it's fine "spirited away"... other cases... not so good; FF7 advent childrens english was rather clumsy as was steamboy and nausicaa's (i mean the english language is already clumsy when compared to spanish for example, but meh... )

meh... i still prefer my films in english though, can't imagine watching something like transformers 2 in japanese.. ... just thinking about that translation gives me shudders

ugh I was REALLY hoping if there will be English voice overs it wouldn't be like the annoying voice acting the you her in anime.

These sample sound exactly the same and in some cases even more horrible than some dubbed anime. It's not the translation that is horrible it more the way they voice act, it's horrible.

I hope these wouldn't be the finalized voices...and if they are I guess I'll see how they sound while playing the game with the background music and character animations as well as the background sounds. with all these factors added they might not sound as horrible.

People should probably just wait to hear it in context.

There is a difference between hearing a line as just a sound bite and in context of a scene. Many of your favorite lines from movies might sound weird if you just heard them on a tape machine.

Other than that, they sound "ok". I do think they sound a bit off but I think that's because there is no visual context to them.

Yea I'm not liking it as well...... Japanese voices with English subtitles is what I want.   Watching anime in English isn't right not to mention the voice acting is always crap so I always watch in Japanese.  IMHO the Japanese language sounds cooler and the chicks all sound uber hott.

When Japanese games are translated into english they just sound cheesy and just don't translate well. All i hear is good things about this game and I wanna try it but I'm not putting £35 down to get into a beta of a game I probably wont like because I'm not into the whole Japanese art style thing.

  • BettysAltBettysAlt Member Posts: 179

They don't sound too bad. I am grateful there won't be any affected english/scottish/Irish voices.

It's a korean game. It's a mixture between Korean gameplay and western gameplay.

Well Asian games all look alike.

For a game with such cool music, it's disappointing that the English VA is second rate.  Others are right that it's not "bad" exactly.  I think it's passable, but when you can compare it to the Korean original and the Japanese voice actors, there's no comparison.  What a shame.

  • linrenlinren Member Posts: 578

I do agree the shugo one is a bit weird, but the rest sounds fine, at least for the English VA standard.

I might try Japanese VA if there are packs that can replace it after launch, mainly because I can understand spoken Japanese too.  I'll pass on Chinese since it is a terrible language to voice act and I been Chinese since I was born, so I had enough of it.

Korean still remains a foreigm language to me up to this date.

However, to the OP, no these are not actually that horrible.  By English VA standards these are above average, and some even sound professional.

If you're looking for high quality VO, you'll probably need to wait for TOR... but this doesn't sound THAT bad for a localized korean game. :)

Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV

English doesn't sound too bad, but I prefer the way the Japanese intro sounds.  Will just have to try both in game and see which I like better in context.

I don't the voices they used for the Shugo, but the others are fine.

I had to chuckle a bit after listening to the English intro, mainly because it reminded me of the original Resident Evil dialogue delivery.  I don't understand how it is that this level of quality gets green-lighted.  I'd like to meet the person / people who listen to the playbacks during the recording and tell these actors, 'That was the one!'  Whoever they are; they are not good at their job, in my opinion.  I mean, the Japanese actors at least sound like their somewhat conveying that there's a damn battle going on, (sounding winded from the fight, emoting etc,) but the English sounds like they're asking for directions or something, (the Elyos warrior, "Behind you, no... in front of you."  then the Elyos Ranger replies, "You mean we're surrounded right?")  Just sad and rather lame...
