Have been playing Aion all weekend , its a very good mmo so far. Here are a few pros and cons for those of you who havent had a chance to check it out.Originally posted this in AOC's general forum ,srry AOC guys.
PROS:
Nice graphics
Very smooth surprisingly, the machine im running it on atm has only 2 gigs of ram and no issues-minimal bugs
Character customization is pretty in depth ,you can spend quite a while making your character unique.
CONS:
PVP (aside from arena) is very limited. Havent seen any , up to lvl 13
The controls while flying take a bit of getting used to(still havent got it down yet)
I Thought it was a bummer that you had to level to 10 before you can fly ,and there are lots of places that you can not fly at all.
keeping it brief- any questions ask away. I have a level 12 ranger and a 14 chanter btw.
Comments
Cons: PvP??
Just wait. Aion has an awesome PvP setup that pits both races against each other, plus an AI controlled race in the Abyss. They call it PvPvE.
Hi i have yet to play and it sounds like a fun game. i'm playing WoW atm and have to be lvl 10 say for hunter to get a pet so flying at lvl 10 seems to make sense to me.
That is a horrible arguement for playing Aion the OP is making . Graphics, and customization, and that it runs on your pc......anything to do with the actual gameplay that would make anyone want to play it ?
Plenty of reviews on Aion on the forum, no need to nitpick.
How is that such a horrible argument? Gameplay in mmos is lets face it pretty similiar its the graphics and customization that actually make the differences. Having a game that runs on a older rig is huge. Clicking skills and changing targets will remain the same. That may not be how we want it to be but thats how it is in this genre of ours.
----ITS A TRAP!!!----
You think i posted this to argue Airspell? lol
The gameplay is classic mmo style with unique elements such as flying , unique creatures and landscapes. In depth crafting could be another bonus for some. Fans of most mmo's can easily find things to enjoy with this game. I've played just about every mmo and its too early to say if this will be on my favorites list or even if i'll subscribe for any long amount of time, but as a veteran of EQ1,EQ2,Vanguard,Shadowbane,DAoC,AOC,WOW,COH,COV,Darkfall,UO,AC1,WAR,MXO,DDO,LOTRO,
Horizons,Lineage2,and a member of this site since '05 I can say without a doubt this game is worth a try and I for one am buying it.
For Airspell: If I was going to argue I would say "You are probably are not a true gamer if you miss this one for its release."
I'm going to play Aion and have played CB2 and CB4 and I have a 25 Assassin and played a 30 Ranger on C-Aion. However stating you've played so many games might give off the impression that this is "just another AAA MMO". Many of the games you've played were bad ideas like MXO. That game looked fun and I couldn't wait to play except I wasn't able to try the game before paying, so I didn't play.
The difference between Aion and most MMO's is you can either download and play C-Aion for free on a new server for two weeks, or you can put $5 down at EBGames or Gamestop and play every other weekend until live.
You can do the right thing and look at the countless reviews for the game and look at some end game content movies on youtube and read patch notes about the game and try the game for yourself. There are always some people who won't like Aion, however give it a try. I know recent releases have been a disappointment for many people so I'll give you reasons why Aion won't let you down.
1. It's been out for almost a year in Korea and we will be getting all the content made for Korea during that year.
2. There is information out there of what end game is like. There is an end game that works, guaranteed.
3. There is PvE content for those who just like to PvE and challenging raid instances for those who like it.
4. It's open world pvp, not instanced. WoW killed their Open world pvp with mounts and battlegrounds. There is no Battlegrounds, you gain your Abyss Points in the Open world, not by grinding instances.
5. It's successful, it's not going to tank, it will be around for 5+ more years.
6. You will know about patches ahead of time, you'll be able to expect whats coming next.
7. Koreans are beta testing the game for us, any exploits and glitches will be fixed before we have to play the game.
8. PvP is meaningful and the type most Daoc fans were looking for in WAR.
9. It's a standard MMO, they aren't risking any new elements, they are taking the best of what was tried before and molding it into one successful and fun MMO.
10. Try the game, you can. Read reviews, you can. Ask questions, there are answers.

Yes Aion Online Looks Like A Great Outstanding Game And I Will Be Looking Forward To Playing It

Hey i played the last beta but im new to the forums, so i thought i would put my two cents in. I do agree that the lvl for flying is 10....just makes sence, i think u should be happy with that lol u could have made it lvl 20 or 30 or whatever they wanted. However i do think the actuall flying areas are limited. But i think what i noticed the most was the monsters area of movement....its not very far, its like they just put like 100 monsters in one area but let them move only like 5 ft. And the respawn rate is erradic every area is differant....even if its 20 ft away. And yes i understand that a stronger monster will have a lesser RR then a weaker one. On the plus side (cuz i like to end positive) i do the the broker system ( auction house for wow players ) and i like the fact u can change ur armor color and skin. All right talk to ya all later.
Im not evil....im just ahead of the curve.
Level 13, thats where i stopped reading
I played the beta this past weekend and will give my own impressions.
Pros- Graphics: absolutely beautiful and its running on a laptop
Combat and skills: combat is nice and has fluid motion
customization of charachter: no one looks alike
flying: its pretty cool
cons:
beginner quests: your typical go kill this and collect that
distance between everything: It took a while to get from one place to the other running. An idea may be to have a mount system in the beginning stage such as an inexpensive horse or whatever just somehting to make the distance between places seem shorter. I spent alot of time going from point A to point B. Flying after lvl 10 could be sped up it seems a bit slow right now but that may change in higher lvls not sure. From watching youtube vids it doesn't seem so.
All in all it is a good game. I played WOW for a long long time and will be switching to this game. Granted I only got to level 13 ( was busy testing out the other classes) I can say that this game has the potential to usurp WOW
played cb2-6.
classes played: Assassin to 20, Chanter 20, Cleric 17, gladiator 16.
pros: customization, graphically amazing, flying combat, skill chains, pvp, gritty kinda grinded lvling expierence.
detailed lore and mechanics. if you don't like your speciality class, you have to create a new character, no re-skill, etc.
cons: unknown endgame, cheesy cut scenes, lvl's 1-10 (fells its like its they are holding your hand aka wotlk wow)
overview: this is amazing, i like the fact that its focused on pvp, and they are penalties to death in pve and pvpve, I'm sicking of these mmo's holding your hands, aka wotlk wow, this is a good change of pace, i just hope its as successful as it is in korea here, this game wont be as bad as failnan and failhammer, but wont be as successful as wow, which in terms is a good thing, if your a caster you love flying pvp, its awesome, if your a melee you want to fight on the ground more it suits you very well. looking forward to release and 1.5 patch here.
Well I must say, I played EQ2 for about 3+ years and WOW for a couple. Being burnt out on both, I have been looking for something else. tried them all AOC, LOTRO, War, Runes, VG, nothing really felt right. I have been playing all the closed Betas and there is just something about AION. Not 100% sure what or why, but it just feels comfortable and enjoyable to me. I cant wait until it hits live.
I can't get onto the Aion forums, i havnt for quite a while now, but the threads iv'e read are enough to make me play this game.
I'm currently playing AoC & i have done since release, but i need a change & Aion hopfully will be my next MMO.
I have one question for all you Aion players, how balanced are the classes ? By that i mean i'm not going to logon to see 1000 Assasins & 1 warrior ? Since i havn't played this game i appoligize if that question sucked.
Well i beleave all classes are strong in there own way if you use them correctly....but i have noticed that mages are really powerful. However i do stick to my statement so far on how there all strong classes.....just gotta know how to use em.
Im not evil....im just ahead of the curve.
Aion is the first fantasy MMO where I've considered playing the healer class (cleric)first.
I don't know why, but I enjoy it.
Normally I'm melee dps/tank and I did play Aion's Templar and Champion (i think it was champion, brain fart) and enjoyed them.
But something drew me to the healer.
D&D Home Page - What Class Are You? - Build A Character - D&D Compendium
I, too, am going to be a cleric, but played as a Mage on closed beta. I looked at all the classes, and felt the Priest Cleric was the most well rounded. You can do a little bit of everything, almost like the Shaman in wow. That way you can pull and then melee at the end with better armor than the mage. Cloth doesn't hack it with some of these monsters. I have already joined a casual raid legion called the Dragon Lords, and they have already got 81 members and climbing. Excellent leadership. Anyone interested let me know and I can steer you in the right direction.
omg-do I have to do this?
I was playing in all betas and now i will play in open beta aswell, like this game very much. It will be my next long playable mmo game. Flying is nice feature in this game, just need a little practice to master it Hope to see you guys in game
