I tried a lot of the other MMOs out there, GW, EQ2, WAR, and nope, none felt right, not like WoW. The one thing those games DO have is a playerbase that reminds me of the old WoW days -- players who care about the game, are pleasant to play with, and don't sound like they are ten (because I guess theyr'e not).
Anyone know of any servers on WoW these days where the playerbase is generally friendyly? My friends still play on Kalecgos in WoW but that realm was so obnoxious it made me quit the game.

No. The best thing you can do is get into a guild of friendly people, and ignore everybody else.
I go back and forth with WoW. Usually, the annoying community gets to me, and I quit for a while. Then I start to miss a lot of the features it has, and decide it''s worth putting up with the jerks and retards just to play again. I suggest resubbing, and playing until you get sick of it again. Or keep a friendlier MMO as a side game, for when you need a break from the chronic asshattery.
Get out there and talk to people. There are so many people in WoW that the jerks hog all the normal chat. Plenty of good people who like the game and are friendly, you just have to engage them out in the wild rather than sitting in a city and listening to the trade channel.
I don't know, I was convinced to xFer to that server where my friends xfered but it was jsut so bad, it was like there were no actual humans there, just robots without emotions or joy. I would like to level up a new toon and I'd like to convince some of my co-workers to play but when I did it in the past people were so turned off by how empty the old world was and how no one would talk to you even if you tried. When I played games like WAR it was much more common to bump into someone to PvE with and just chat abotu whatever with, which I liked. We were all on the same team -- Destruction! Whereas in WoW, on the Kalecgos server, it was like some foreign city where no one gives a sh!t who you are.
Usually people who writes like this started playing with Wow... But sorry, it isn't the same game anymore and you are not the same person who started playing it in the past either.
The first MMO is a special thing but going back is never the same thing a few years after you quit.
Try something new instead, sooner or later will another game be different enough to give you a huge kick again. Or do some single game playing for a while, both Diablo 3 and Dragon age: Origins are releasing soon.
I know many people who quited Wow more times than they quit smoking, They always go back again but they complain that they don't have fun in the game anymore. And then they quit again....
Try Eve online, Ryzom or something else that is far away from Wow instead. The right time to get back into Wow is when Blizzard releases Wow2, they will do that (Blizzard loves sequels). Hopefully it will be new and fresh enough but still have the things you loved.
Of course only you can decide if Wow is the right game for you or not, and if it is the most fun game you could play.
I know the feeling. I never really loved WoW... my first was L2 and I did love that game. Even so all good things end. I've decided it really comes down to the people that you play with. I'm also lucky with the release of Aion I have something that reminds me very much of Lineage but gets rid of many of the things I hated. The guild I've been with for about five years now is all going there. Even some we parted ways with when we moved to WAR for a bit exciting stuff. I hope you find your niche Torgozo and wish you luck.
Back when I played, the Terenas server never gave me any problems, a lot of good people there, great raiding guilds as well. Of course like all other servers there will be the select few that have to be d- bags. Just put them on ignore, I had 3 level 70s on Terenas, but quit before the expansion..I'd say it's worth a shot.
Ah, yes. Wanting to go back to the first MMO you played. I know that feeling. My first MMO experience was with Asheron's Call 2. As far as MMOs go, some say it was a terrible game. But I had a great time, until they shut it down.
It had plenty of flukes, but also some very nice things. And many people want to go back to that game. But I (and they too) know that it would be a dissapointment. Perhaps not in the beginning, but after a few weeks...
Anyway, I was thinking to going back to WoW myself, but thought the better of it. It would not be the same as when I started playing that game back in beta.
I have tried numerous MMOs after AC2 and enjoyed some of them. Lotro especially was nice and Age of Conan surprisingly good for roleplaying. But in the end none of them gave me the same experience as Asheron's Call 2 did. The community is different, I am different etc. None of the games felt like AC2. So I know how you are feeling.
Currently I am not playing any MMO. Perhaps the Star Wars game will be any good. Not sure.
For now I'll just play Fallout 3 a bit longer and wait for Dragon Age: Origins.
Or does anyone have a nice MMO suggestion for a roleplaying MMO veteran like me? :-)
Played: AC, AC2, Anarchy Online, AoC, D&D Online, Dark+Light, EQ2, EVE Online, FF XI, Guild Wars, Lineage II, Lotro, Ragnarok, Ryzom, Star Wars Galaxies, Ultima Online, WAR, WoW, etc. Also various MUDs
I have the same feeling mate...
Have you tried LoTRO? In most ways, it's basically WoW with more "realistic" graphics and a more mature community. It's more limited in a lot of ways, but might be worth a try.

im to lazy too use grammar or punctuation good
LOTRO seems to have the most mature community these days, but it can be somewhat of an adjustment depending on what you like. If you think it *might* work out for you, use to free trial to your advantage and try out a couple of different classes as they can make a huge difference in how enjoyable the experience is to you. That's my best advice when it comes to LOTRO.
If sticking with WoW, your best bet is a PvE RP server in my personal experience. People generally seem to be a bit more relaxed and mature on those servers, although you will still run into a fair share of people with the mentality of a 10 year old. They tend to be a lot easier to spot on an RP server though, thanks to their names that are usually out of place, so easier to avoid as well.
You don't have to roleplay.
Most people don't to be honest, but I've found that with a little bit of patience, it's a good way to initiate contact with the more mature crowd and usually doesn't require more than just pretending to be your class/race. It's surprisingly simple when it comes down to it and can sometimes lead to some hilarious situations or comments that can make your day.
On the other hand, avoid PvP servers. While there are some cool PvP dudes out there, the PvP flag unfortunately attracts a lot of less desireable individuals with big personality issues. Besides, there's always PvP to be had in BGs, WG, arena and the occasional city raid.
Finally, whatever you do, make sure to explore all the various playstyles and things you can do. Getting stuck in the same endless daily grind is the quickest way to burning out if you're already a bit burned out to begin with. Remember to have fun, even if it means goofing out while dancing in an ogre suit in Orgrimmar rather than getting your shiny purples.
I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
IN the end, its better to find a guild of friendly people than a server of friendly people.
Good luck!
Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Content patch 3.2 is coming out this week so there are a lot to do. I agree with the others. Find a friendly guild and stick with it. Ignore the obnoxious people. They exist everywhere.
ah... for me it was Everquest (the original that is). That and star wars galaxies (pre nge, i was a crafter so cu didnt affect me much) were the games that gave me all those fuzzy memories.
And trust me going back just isnt worth it. It ruins the old good memories when you see how the game was turned into garbage (my opinion, fell free to disagree).
While I hated WoW around launch I did start playing it againa few months ago. It kept my interest for a few months (2 or 3) and I got a new drenai pally from 0-38.
The problem now is there arent many really good games with really good communities out there right now.
I know Ill be trying champions online tomorrow (pre-order beta launches) and hopefully Ill find a good game in that
Otherwise Im waiting for SWTOR and Star Trek Online
SWTOR doesnt look great either but my cousin is playing it and thatll make it fun to say the least.
Honestly, and this comes from a player who has been on a lot of different realms and has 80s on multiple servers, find a server with a medium high/high population and stay with it. If you suck a pvp, join a pvp server and suck it up. If you love pvp, definitely join a pvp server (pve servers suck), if you love roleplaying, find a good RP guild and join their server. Population is key. This game, despite still being kick ass and having million and million of subs, is losing it's population slowly.....very slowly I should add.
On a personal note: Stormreaver is a very nice server with many hardcore raiding guilds (which is good because it keeps the playerbase alive and also attracts a lot of transfers/rerollers). The player base is mainly from the East Coast so I advise you to look at another server if your from the West Coast. If your from the West Coast, I reccommend Blackrock. I personally have not played on this server but many friends and co-workers have. They say Blackrock has many hardcore PVE guilds, a very active playerbase, and houses some of the top pvp players. It is one of the biggest west coast servers.
:P
Amen to that, couldn't agree more, don't know how many times i tried to go back to Voyage Century (F2P) and it just wasn't the same. After the last time i went back, i accomplished what i didn't accomplish the first time around and quit for good, giving all my stuff away to make sure i never returned (mainly because of the direction the company took the game in). In the end i went back to P2P to a game i tried back in 2006 briefly (FFXI) and i'm very happy there playing along side some good friends. For some they can go back to a previous game and have a blast, but for most, it's just not the same thing as it was the first time around.
just go on the 10 day thing. I've done that and it's inspired me to possibly subscribe for just a month. You can't take away from it it has well-done classes. Just a shame it's PvE is ultimately so shallow.
