I'm now level 15 and I see lots of people and invite them to group with me to do random stuff and noone accepts. It feels like a solo game right now and it doesn't have the good story or gameplay of a solo game so I'm getting bored. I'm fedup of having to zone in to everywhere aswel because it just makes the world feel even more of a single player game. Theres also this weird feeling of the screen is so cluttered up with crap that you feel lost. I'm not sure if it's the graphics or what no but it just feels like a mess on my screen. When I'm playing a game like WoW you instantly get it and it feels natural but Age of Conan just has this weird cluttered feeling to it.
Also the combat feels weird and I like the directional combat because it gives me something to do that just standing there auto attacking. However I've ever liked chain skills or combos in mmorpgs. What WoW got so right was the combat and every skill is it's own thing, just made it feel solid. I hate having to do directional and a skill at the same time. What I also don't like is combat is far too animated it makes me feel dethatched from my character and I'm trying to control him but he's moving himself. Again what WoW got right was function over animation and it managed to pull off a well animated character anyways without all these weird finishing moves and stuff. The tab system isn't the best too like I'm trying to tab on an enemy and my character always tries to fight something else. I just don't feel in control of my character in combat and it just makes no sense to me.
What I wish they done with the world is instead of all the zoning I wish they did the gates like the city gates where you click on it and it opens seamlessly. That never takes me outta the game and makes me feel like I'm part of the world. Where as loading and taking me out of the game makes me feel like I'm loading up levels.
I played Assassin too and whats getting on my nerves is the stealth system sucks. I can never get close to an NPC no matter that I do like you can in WoW. I just want it to work like WoWs because that does work. It's frigging annoying having enemies spot me like 50 yards away all the time.
I'm going to keep with the game to see if it gets any better and just hope in the future the zones are more open cause the zoning for me is the major factor. I want to feel like a world like a WoW or a SWG.
+ Also I'm not impressed by the performance in DX10 cause I played Crysis in DX10 which has much better graphics and I got a better framerate in very high than I do with Age of Conan which looks like it's in low or something.

Most MMOs are the same way. Its pretty sad, really. I'm not sure which is worse, the idea that these people play a multiplayer game without other players, or the fact that they pay for it.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
I just remember in SWG everyone meeting at the cities and grouping and because you had seamless player cities which gained rep the more houses you had people invited you to their guilds so they could plant bunkers down and special buildings. Cause of the way that game was designed aswel guilds were all very close and you all went out and did things. Also cause there were no levels veterans got with new players and did any content in the game because there was no order.
In EQ2 beta everyone grouped and we all had fun grouping. There was only one server so it was always pakced for of people who wanted to do content together. I was always in a group and it was just lots more fun than how it was when the game launched. Suddenly the community became anti grouping and then after WoW launched there was noone around to group with. Then you realise how boring an mmo is without grouping.
When WoW launched everyone grouped up to do Westfall and The Dead Mines which was the most fun I had in that game. Then we all grouped up to do city raids and fight to defend places in world PVP. I remember Tauren Mill and The Barrens and The Horde attacking Red Ridge Mountains (or whatever it's called) and we all used to get into big groups to defend against them. Then Battlegrounds came out and killed all that off and ruined the game. The final blow though was when they made it so you didn't have to go to the battleground entrance to get into a game.
Planetside aswel was another game everyone grouped together because it was all about teamplay. If it was just getting on as a gunner of a vehicle or doing Outfit raids, you were playing along side your team mates.
EVE Online was FORCED grouping because you can't do anything without other people and I remember just being in Rona corp and joining them with whatever we were doing each night.
Ever since 2005ish all the games coming out have been about wanting to focus on soloing in an mmorpg......... Even Bioware said people play an mmorpg to have a great single player experience but also being able to play with others. I'm thinking NO as soon as I get into an MMO I want to be playing in a group.
Just a tip on the grouping. I am in my mid 40's in the game and not sure if this is the case for you.......if someone just invites me to a group I will just deny it, yet I'm always willing to join groups when people ask or are looking. There is also a LFG function. Most gamers take a random invite with a grain of salt and know that most of the time if ya join that goup someone is going to get what they want then just hit "disband" . It seems to be the norm for it happened to me quite a few times in different games, mostly WoW to be honest , so I always just decline the offer the same way it was given, without a spoken word.
I just came back for the "Come back and try us again" period and I have a level 67 TOS and I can't find groups for anything for the life of me. I guess the game goes back where I had it originally. The big box in the closet with all the other POS games I have.
It's a shame too, game was looking and feeling a bit better than over a year ago.
Welcome to post-WoW MMORPG's.
Yeah.
Makes me sad that that the masses who started playing mmorpgs with WoW, and so havent got a real idea of what made these games great in the first place and why grouping/ social interaction was so important to the 1st and 2nd wave of mmoers, have been allowed to create this false reality that people hate groups and want solo solo solo.
They don't even know what it is they have destroyed.
My first mmo was my gaming home for 5 years, my second 2, my third 6 months, every one since a month or less. There is an obvious reason for this, and it isnt that I am bored with the genre or fantasy in general, because I am not.
Ez mode solo no investment games have killed everyhting I love about this hobby tbh. I am just playing multi player NWN and Pathfinder PnP RPG right now simply because in market saturated with poor dumbed down product none of the games offer what I want.
I couldn't agree more about the change in gaming, I loved the community aspect of things. Even to this day I will get on and do a few things myself, if I don't get in a group in a game then I usually just log off. Currently I play AoC and WoW casually(wow mainly just to get a bg fix here and there), played Shadowbane for a long time. I started with UO, but EQ was my first love of MMORPG'S. It wasn't EQ though, we always joked it to be NEVERquest. The fun of the game was grouping though, not forced grouping, but back in the day I took the game more as a virtual chatroom. There was nothing better than a good group of people BS'ing with the random killing mobs. I still hold friends from those days that I met in game.
I can't speak for all of the more recent gamers, but seemingly most. They seem to be the generations of instant gratification and anti-socials. Seems more and more people are playing as loners in the MMO's and has been that way pretty much since WoW. Even in UO I spent all my time grouped up with 2 RL friends. Guess that is society as a whole though, I have 2 teenage children and 1 a step from being the same monster. I guess as far as gaming goes I still prefer a social setting rather than a solo setting, which I still find pretty most of the time in current games. Then again, I despise raiding.
Ya, I have actually gone back to play some UO and it is all I need at the moment for my 30 min a day fix, it's all I can stand of any MMO style game these days. I turn 40 this week and have seen alot, everything is going to shit in this industry, but it will be back strong at some point, otherwise, hello console.
peace
Hmm, yeah, where is his defensive stance when is most "needed", hehe? For the past couple of days Avery should be here having a field trip, copying & pasting back and forth with no end in sight.
Ontopic - When I tried the re-evaluation period the good old single player experience came back. I levelled a DT to 30 and I just couldn't find grps for ANYTHING, even though I had about a dozen or so group quests in my log. I'd also like to put the blame on that stupid SHITTY GLOBAL CHAT which serves no other purpose than 1) deter newcomers 'cuz everyone can see what kind of asshole reside in boxed Hyboria and 2) blocking useful info and grouping purposes due to constant spam and bickering about who's got the biggest e-peen and who's mom is more fat.
I don't know how you guys feel, but if people prefer ganking each other to oblivion than grouping and actually achieveing something together, then such a game is a cesspool in my opinion.
Oh and btw - do you guys realize that after one year rewards for completing raid quests are still shitty and unremarkably stupid, like npc giving you 20 silver and some useless item or just a few silver coins. I remember this npc Kurtz Mandros that gives you a quest to bring Vistrix's skull. Do you know what he gives you for the skull? 20 SILVER! So it's sort of natural that people just solo and gank each other, since Funcom gives you 20 silver to group for raids, lol.
Me too. I am a social gamer that spent years in EQ grouping in a 'family' non raid guild and loved it. I have always enjoyed low-mid content in these games more then 'end game'. I did try a raid guild once... never again... /shudder
I think that might be half the problem y'know? A LOT of people have gotten grouping and raiding fixed as the same thing in their heads...
it's just not the case.
Oh I give up with the game I was standing right by the mob I needed and I couldn't kill it alone so I asked the guy next to be tog roup so we both get the reward and he declined........ terrible community I'm trying to group with people and noone ever wants to and it doesn't help that u can't right clik on sumone and say group.
Noone ever talks to each but just spam global and atleast in WoW people talk.
I don't even feel that I'm in an online game.
