Ok, I just went over to CO site and lo and behold couldn't find any solid, relevant information about the game except the generic blurbs. (yes we already know that its "next gen gfx" and "unparalleled custmization" and "epic storyline"... like any other mmo that come out since 1998) It is really amazing how those mmo companies NEVER publish basic relevant info on their sites and then you have to go all Sherlock Holmes on the interwebs... but I digress.. Ok, here's my few questions that I suppose would interest anyone thinking about this game.
1. Open world or instanced? Is it a one large area (zoned, seamless whatever) shared by everyyone or is it a series of "private rooms" like GW. Or something in between? Since I know it's a one server game I suppose there will be quite a bit of instancing but then I had to ask.
2. PvP? Can players fight each other? Are there any rewards for it? Do you get xp and can you level with it? Does PvP impact the shared world in any way? Factions or guilds or free for all? Penalties for a) dying b) loosing a group encounter. What are the PvP playmodes, open world, battlegrounds, arenas?
3. Advancement. Levels/classes ot classless/skillbased or something in between?
That's pretty much it. Thanks in advance for the answers.

1. From what Iv seen the game uses instances for the major zones, and only 25 people can be in an instance at the same time. I only made it to the first three zones, but it would not really surprise me if the rest were the same (I think there are only 2 other areas).
3. You can take whatever powers you want for your character, but from what I'v heard the powers are not really all that diffrent. Was true for the first few levels of the game I got to play the other day, but I only got to see the lower level powers.
Yes, but it's optional, and you do get xp for it.

around 6:40 they talk about PvP
Yes, theres 3 types of PVP according to the main site:
BASH which is a free for all type in an instance, where the winner is the one who gets the most kills

Stronghold which is like an MMO version of DOTA with 2 sides fighting inside a supervillain prison, also has turrets/npcs etc.

Hero games, which is an arena system.

You gain rewards and XP in pvp, and its been stated that you can level up using PVP even though its a PVE game at heart. It allows you to enter pvp without stalling your progress.

I'm not hyping up the game im actually fairly wary of it simply because of its close relation to wow. But if its fun right off the bat and there's no forced raiding mechanics I'm expecting it to be entertaining until SWTOR releases.
Some people will be like boo blah this game has Micro transactions but honestly who gives a damn if Player B has a shiny backpack that does nothing other than glow that he had to pay a dollar for and you managed to find it a week later for free in game.
It is both instanced and zoned. There are multiple instances of every zone depending on how many people are in said zone. I don't know where one of the previous posters got the number 25 from, but the largest I have seen thus far is around 70, though it is kind of hard to say exactly how many there can be because they do a pretty good job of keeping an even spread if there is more than one zone open. For example, if there are 3 zones open they will likely have close to the same number of people in the zone: Instance 1 68 people, Instance 2 69 people, instance 3 68 people. So while from that I would guess that the max total number per instance is less than the total of the 3 (or else there would only be a need for 1 instance) I do not know what the actual number is, or if it has been increased/decreased throughout beta.
PvP takes place in instanced BG/arena type situations. I haven't tried it so can't make too many comments on it other than it was designed (according to some of the reading i've done, not personal experience) to allow characters to level from pvp. It has Levels and classes, though any class can use any power so there's alot of crossover in the classes. I haven't toyed around to much with this aspect either. Hope this helps some.
The only similarity to WoW that I have found so far is the basic structure of the quests. Other then that they have been nothing alike for me. I guess you could make a character that handles combat similarly to WoW but then that is on you. My characters have all had a very high degree of mobility (run and gun) and play nothing like any other MMO I've been in.
More then any other game CO is what you make of it. It does not force you to create an interesting character but if you want to it gives you a lot of options. If you really want to just spam one or two attacks you can do that. If you want to make a guy with tons of Strength and hitpoints who knocks people all over the map you can do that too. If you want to make a character who's constantly moving you can. If you want to make someone who mixes melee and range go for it. If you want to mix healing and damage there are way to do that to. An tank with Telepathy, sure why not. An energy projector with Invulnerability, go for it.
I guess what I am saying is that if you want a game to just hand you a play style (or play styles) then CO may disappoint; but if you want a game that allows you to build a character you think is fun and find your own play style and combinations then I highly recommend it.

Im not looking to be handed anything which is why I'm pretty curious about this game since it has the PVE things I like but you get to build your own character. My only real concern is it turning into wow's gear and raid requirement to progress BS.
I've not seen the end game content so I cannot say anything about it one way or another. I do know there is a mix ofsolo, group, raid, and PvP content but I cannot say how good any of it is.
1. The world is split in instances, but they are VERY big, after the tutorial areas. It is fully shared, tho presently there is a limit to 100 per copy, but it is likely to be raised. With the size of the zones you dont have this instanced feeling like in GW.
2. I havent delved in PVP, there is arena PVP, duels and something like it, but the main part of the game is PVE. Havent tried the PVP part, but it is optional, 5 VS 5 and the like. Seems to be battlegrounds and areans, but really I dunno for sure what its like.
3. You level up, but you can chose from EVERY skill set. Yes, you can really gather all skills you want, and you can select TONS of stuff. When you chose telekinetic blasts, you can chose if you char shots them from hands, firsts, eyes, breats, whatever. You can dye every power. You can combine every power in any way you want. Of course you can totally make bad choices, it takes some thinking. ^^
Combat is more action like than any other combat. You build up endurance with powers and so you always fight in some way. I like the game.
It is worth pointing out that the first time you enter a new zone you only see a small part of it in what is called a Crisis Zone. After you complete the Crisis Zone you gain access to the entier area. I've seen posts by some people who mistake the Crisis Zone for the entier zone and in doing so (mistakenly) think the world is small.
wtf is going on in this thread, are people aware that they're under an nda? there are multiple posts in this thread that go against the nda and with that against the forum rules. no i don't really care whether you leak or not, but don't do it on a board that specifically forbids you to.
I am not aware of anything in this tread that has not been talked about by Cryptic itself in one of thier many, many interviews, posts, teasers, trailers, etc...
there has not been any talk about the size of the instances, the numbers here are straight out of closed beta. you were talking about the quests and how you feel they compare to wow, that's nothing that has been released. the rest of the comments were all like "i haven't done that yet but [general information]", which is fine for now, but the fact that you're telling people that you haven't experienced something in closed beta yet, is a clear way of pointing out that you will speak of it if you had, else there would be no need of mentioning it.
shut up who cares
these breaches of the NDA are actually making me want to buy the game now
i'm not in the beta and i would like to know what's going on in the game before i preorder/buy
brainless troll is brainless, or did you just feel the line where i say that i don't care about leaking isn't worth reading? if you want closed beta information, go visit a site that is run with leaking in mind and not a forum which specifically forbids any and all nda breaking.

Well, lots of things look good on paper..... haggis...... communism.... I think you should try it for yourself.. I'm in beta, not everything is what it sounds like.

well can i use your account? because i'm not in the beta and i appreciate people telling me about the game
This is true. As much as I love CO it is not going to be for everyone.

i'm just looking for an MMO that lets you be creative and not have to follow down paths laid out for you

Eventhough I'm not entirely happy with the game, I can't give my account to you, I'm pretty active on the forums and its against the NDA to pass accounts, you'd be banned. Not to mention, testing is more of a job to me, I test to find bugs, not so much to enjoy the game. If you'd like to try it maybe you can preorder at gamestop or something and get in OB, its not too far away.
Again I agree. Put down $5 or $10 at a local game store that is offering access to the open beta and try it yourself. If you love it you can pay the rest when you pick it up and if you don't then you are not out much.
you assume too much.
Technically you are right, but the NDA so close to launch is an oddity. There is no reason for it IMVPO. And its not that we start slandering the game. Those are really simple facts and 4 weeks before launch there is no real reason to hide such basic stuff.
