A simple solution for AE.

slim26slim26 Member UncommonPosts: 645

I have been reading here and there about the problems that real players that like to explore the game are having due to the AE problem of many players that are in it at a constant state. Well I have a solution for that but first I would like to say a few things about the new AE. AE is simply great, it gives me more freedom and allow me to explore my ideas in mind and unleash them out into the game, in many ways I feel like I am a game Dev you see AE is brilliant and I think all MMORPG out there should do the same and I strongly believe that if you use your best effort to create a great story and all the other mixes the Dev's of CoV or any other Dev that actually play CoH would read your story and test your game and that just may land you a ticket into game development for CoH or any other game company.

Ok now my solution for the AE problem. All they have to do is have the AE building closed on the week days and open early on the weekend. This will give people who create there games more time to come up with a good story and  a game that is worth playing for many to enjoy and rate and will also bring open world grouping back to life mon/fri.

What you all think?

I think... that locking down the AE during the week would mostly just piss people off.

And since the majority of activity happens on the weekends, isn't THAT when you would want people OUT of the AE to do things like Task Forces?

I think a better solution is to scale back the amount of XP/Influence earned during AE missions so that regular "old fashioned" gameplay in the rest of the game world goes back to being the best way to level up your character. The AE should really only be for adding extra content to keep people entertained after they have already recahed level 50 and done everything else.

Like this (I think a better solution is to scale back the amount of XP/Influence earned during AE missions so that regular "old fashioned" gameplay in the rest of the game world goes back to being the best way to level up your character). Not this (The AE should really only be for adding extra content to keep people entertained after they have already recahed level 50 and done everything else) cause I love the AE and use at lower lvls as test training.

I kinda thought the same about players getting mad about the weekly AE so I think it would be fine if they space out the AE 3 with in a week  ( Mon AE, Tu close, Wed AE, Th close, Fri AE, Sat close, Sun close)

Why not make the AE purely for other players stories instead of a stupid farm/powerlevel fest by taking out exp and money gain? Not sure why its there in the first place....

Yeah, thats pretty much the only way I can see to actually end the power leveling and get people back into the REAL game again.

But nobody wants to do something for nothing. If you take the XP and influence gains away completely then nobody will want to do AE at all! Then the AE would be dead and people who create GOOD mssions for it would be mad that their missions never get played (which sadly is also an issue now since most non-farming missions will never get played).

What I think they should do is just scale the XP and influence gains back to the point that you still benefit from doing AE missions, but LESS than you would by simply going out and doing regular content. That way people will still do the AE from time to time, but their primary reason for doing so will be to find good/fun story arcs and not to farm.

I think the best way to go about it would be to first make all player-made missions give lower XP than they do currently. The second step would be to fix the rating system, making it a thumbs up+down system. Now, every week specific NCSoft GM's will decide on a few missions which would be made "Approved". That will enable the mission into giving full rewards(And badges for beating X "approved" missions).

Another step that could be taken would be to have a cooldown period before you can use the same mission. So even if an approved mission was a bit too rewarding, you couldn't farm it.

The issue with this is that it takes valuable GM time, which is spread thin as it is. You could create a community "council" of sorts that would be given the authority to approve missions.

I was subbed at the time AE launched.

I witnessed players literally being sucked off the streets into the AE buildings. It was tres freaky. So bad I cancelled my sub a few days after AE launched.

I resubbed a few weeks ago, and the situation has improved. There are players out in the world again.

I've also had an opportunity to try some of the player made missions - real missions, not boss or lt farms. One of them was quite fun. Insane (oodles of evil masterminds and their minions spawning all over the place), with us dying frequently, but it was fun to play something a bit different.

But I don't think your idea would be picked up. Love it or hate it, AE is convenient for a lot of players. There's instant gratification to be had from it. You can, from the comfort of that one building, level, level, level, buy enhancements, level, level, level etc. etc.

If NCSoft didn't want this level of convenience, they would have made AE like police radios - and they would randomise mission locations out in the gameworld like regular missions, and there'd be no mission tickets with which you can buy everything  you could otherwise get playing out in the gameworld.

I think it functions as NCSoft intended.

I have played CoH over 3 years. I was about 1 year break when I deside to play it again.

So, not much to say, if You are powerlever or farmer, then CoX is your paradise. As for normal story related missions, yes, You can still find team for it, but it's gonna be alot harder with this small and split player base. AE missions doesn't have level requirement when teaming, but in many ways normal story related missions does. Also it's like over 10 times slower to level with normal missions. Basicly I would say, old story related CoX is dead and it's new farming and powerleveling AE CoX now.

    How to fix it?

AE buildings access needs access limits and/or the exp need to be redused like 10 times less. The access limit could be done by zones or by having at least one lvl 50 character.
