The January 2005 issue of Computer Games includes a short article about the future of a Marvel Online RPG. The following is a portion of the article:
"Marvel is perfectly suited to massively multiplayer gaming as we are a 'universe' unto outselves," said Marvel COO Bill Jemas in the press release announcing their deal with Vivendi Universal to develop a massively multiplayer online RPG. "Our fans like to live and breathe their favorite characters, and this gives them the opportunity to do that 24 hours a day if they like." The deal gives Vivendi exclusive rights for ten years to online games using Marvel's 4,700 characters.
The article goes on to say that no other real information has been given as to how the game will be played. The idea of a Marvel MMORPG comes as no suprise considering Marvel's recent outlashing at skin creators who have been designing Marvel skins for various games (e.g. The Sims). The stated release date is Fall 2005, but who really knows."

So.. Marvel sues COH developers and then decides to create there own mmorpg. I wonder if any of the COH players will play it

Obviously Marvel didnt 'just' come up with this idea. Puts a whole new spin on the reasoning behind the lawsuit against CoH now doesnt it

I actually heard about the Marvel MMO well before COH came out. Don't know how good it will be, but it can't be much worse the COH

I think A.I.M. are in need of a new leader that will bring them back to the forefront of the Marvel realm.

I used to visit this site a lot however in recent years it has become the home of negative forum posts, illogical opinions and tantrums so I visit less often.
Played or Beta'd: UO / DAOC / Horizons / EQ2 / DDO / EVE / Archlord / PirateKingsOnline / Tabula Rasa / LOTRO / AOC / Champions / Darkfall / Mortal Online / DCUO / Rift / STO / SWTOR / TSW
That's so stupid... it's basically ripping off CoH.
But if I read correctly, they want to give people the opportunity to roleplay their favorite heroes?
I don't want to play Wolverine and have a dozen other Wolverines in my group. I don't wanna be Spiderman (Although web slinging is something that CoH does not have) and be swinging around with 50 other Spidermans stealing my kills and XP.
City of Heroes, although repetitive, was really cool just cause it was the first game where you could really create your own super hero the way you wanted him.
So well, we'll see what happens with Marvel's MMORPG... if it allows you to create your own super heroes and not "borrow" an existing super hero and just roleplay that borrowed super hero through quests and constant grinding, then it may be fun if the gameplay is better than CoH.
Since this is Marvel, they better not limit us to just 1 city where everyone is around. We better have more cities to visit, space travel, huge countryside landscapes, mountains and much more.

Can you imagine Marvel let people actually "play" their heroes with the chance somebody does something really really humiliating with them after they sued Crpytic because, oh my!, with their character generation system you can make similar costumes than theirs!

WoW, Marvel's getting their hands in everything. Console games, Arcade games, movies, and now mmorpgs. Well.. you guys might hate me for saying this but I am looking forward to it. Everything they put out is great and new. This is something different and new for them and they are taking risks and great things usually happen when people take risks. I tell you one thing this will be different.
We will soon say CoH who?.. And I will say exactly

I really do hate it when big corporations like Warner Bros or Marvel dip their toes where they do not belong. Big names, and big money does not necessarily make a big MMORPG.
Look at Matrix Online, and I'm sure that alot of people disagree with me on this one. The Matrix Online IMHO is not what it is meant to be. Yes it is pretty, and there is a lot within the game but I cannot see that it is a good MMORPG. I also have this same feeling about Marvel Online.
Marvel, please prove me wrong, and I'll be a happy Marvel MMORPGer.
What they should have done from the beginning is to let COH use marvel characters (of course for a price) and avoid all the legal BS that is going on...
In a perfect world...we can always dream that lawyers go where they belong.
