Will gold sellers kill the game before it has a chance?

ShadoedShadoed Member UncommonPosts: 1,459

I am interested to hear the perspective of those that have actually played the game as i had started to develop an interest, but that has been dampened over the last week or so big time.

In my eyes personally, NCsoft don't have the best reputation in the world anyway (played City of Heroes and Auto Assault Beta), but the endless adverts from gold sellers here and just about everywhere else really puts me off this game before i have even really given it a chance. I have played WoW for years, so i have quite a bit of experience with the pain that gold sellers can cause a game, but it would seem that no game has anything on the sellers that are already active in this one??

I suppose that the impression that i get on the surface is that the game is just going to be a BOTfest with a few players to interact with in between. Again, this is in no way based on experience, hence the reason i ask the opinion of those who have actually played?

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

All games can break down if bots and gold farmers remain unchecked. Aion is no exception to this.

We just have to wait and see, most people experiance from the game is fron Aion -CN which is run by a third party company (SDO) and not Ncsoft itself

Well I can say from speaking first hand with some Korean and Chinese Aion players that they don't care about the bots in the game.  Also it is considered the "norm" to buy in-game currency in Korea (not sure about China) so they either don't get a lot of gold selling spam, or they just don't care about that either.

Sooo... unless the US NCSoft branch does something about bots/gold spammers on their side, or makes a big fuss about putting things into the game to curb this behaviour, I see it being a bigger problem then in L2.

Edit:  I have seen a few videos from Korea that show HUGE bot groups.. I'm talking 40-50 bots running around...  Most players just try to avoid them, I've been told.

  • I was playing the CAion for a while till the company stopped battle bots. The problem is not even you can't find player to interact with, it was bots in every safe spot. Of course, auction house price of some particular sigmas were driven through the roof. By accident, some guy from CAion gave me a bot and it totally worked. The fake account I created was grinding away along with other bots for hours. It even sell items when the backpack if full and rez and walk back to grind path should that happens. Not to mention you can set up a "group" and have a healing bot tag along as well. At that point, I decided Aion is going to be L3 and I didn't even bother with pre-order. Just my 2 cents

The problem is NCSoft has put little to no anti-cheating measures into Aion and instead is relying soley on Game Guard.  Which, as everyone already knows, can easily be circumvented by those that want to.

I'll still be playing but I would really like to hear directly from one of the NCSoft US staff members what exactly they will be doing about bots/hackers.

Edit:  I've seen some interviews that basically say, "We will be doing everything we can to stop cheaters."  But they never actually say what they will be doing.

Hmmm, thanks for the comments. It looks like a wait and see situation as it stands, as i know NCsoft have been less than eager to ban botters in the past, but it would be such a shame for them to blow a huge opportunity like this one for that reason.

I've been in the beta for a few months now and yes there are quite a few botters. It's just the same as Linege 2 because it uses the same engine or similar (its pritty much exactly the same) they're able to use bots already. Have not seen any hacking yet but I do lag quite a lot since i'm connecting to china.

GG is totally worthless and basically an inconvenience for the customer.   Hackers love it.

I will have to honestly say no.The reason is because it is usually NA owners that run these farming sites on NA servers, but they are still using Asians to do the dirty work.I do not see asians logging into the NA servers,i am not sure it will even be possible,so i would expect RMT farming to be very minimal, but it will always have an effect,it only takes a few dumb asses to ruin a game.As soon as the lazy players start buying from RMT then they start spending recklessly, witch in turn drives up the prices for everyone.

Now i only played Beta and i expect a server wipe,so perhaps that is why i did not see any RMT when i played.NCSOFT has never taken a serios stance against cheating so do not expect any of the cheats to be stopped this time either, albeit i do expect a lot less than L2 or what is happening on the asian servers.

Honestly it will be tough but i do believe NCSoft community managers when they say yes we will be stopping bots this time. L2 was run by NCAustin and after their subsequent company wide restructure, a slight difference was noticed  of bots and gold sellers in L2.

I think they will be diligent for 4-6 months from Aion's release, after that who knows how things will stand, but it's hard to eliminate all bots and gold sellers from any MMO. I will take a wait and see attitude on Aion when dealing with bots, besides they aslo have an easy way for reporting bots too.

Gold sellers in game ruins the game to me - it gives less incentive to work for things in the game - why play the game if you are just going to buy your way to the top?

    Very weak, very lame...

Not many games have been killed by gold sellers.

Even in L2 few people cared about gold sellers, botting on the other hand was always considered to be a major problem. (and I realize one begets the other frequently).

I hope NCSoft takes steps to reign in both activities, but their past history isn't strong in this area.

I don't think they can get rid of bots entirely, but don't you actually have farm abyss points to get the top gear? I don't think they have developed the bots to be good in pvp, so maybe  it is a little bot proof in that sense. If there are spots where bots are mostly likely to farm at, we could easily kill them during the rift or in the abyss for easy points. But i guess the game would turn into, who can kill the bots the most.

I plan on trying the game out and could care less about the bots. Best way to stop them is not buy gold from them. If they hang out in pvp areas i plan to make mince meat out of them.

I will be playing it for sure, but if it turns into another L2 i'll quit no matter how much i like it. on the CAion i've played a few servers and the worst with gold spam seemed to be the server/region with the most english speakers in it. region 10 that originally had the hellbound guild on it i saw no spam at all.

as long as they keep up on it and not let it get out of control it should be ok.L2 they let it go for too long and the servers was in shambles by the time they got off their asses, 1/2 the servers was dead.botting shouldn't be as bad because the lvling is no where as slow as it was in L2

The amount of credit spam I get in EVE makes everything else I have ever played including L2 look like legit paradise. Doesn't seem to have effected that game to much.

I guess people dont realize that gold selling is supply and demand...

Its also a million dollar industry now, which means, people are buying gold. There are  A LOT of gamers buying gold, they are the ones who will ruin the game, not the sellers.

Aion has a bot reporting system in place. Benefits the reporter and penalizes the reported.
