Preferred features in MO

StrixMaximaStrixMaxima Member UncommonPosts: 865

Hello,

I've been interested in MO for some time, but I've never seen a consolidated post containing the ideas within the game people find exciting or innovative. So, I ask of you people to do so. Please list the features that you think break the mold or that are done creatively enough. I would also like to know about the problems people have with the game so far, because nothing is perfect.

Just how much freedom will a player have playing MO? Is it true sandbox, meaning you can advance in non-combat areas and still be valuable?

Sadly, I cannot take part in Beta or preorder due to some financial uncertainties, but I'm certainly interested in playing it, when possible.

Looking forward to your replies. Thanks.

It's not all about new features, but rather well known ones, but implemented in the way they should be.
When you ask about advancing w/o even involving in combat, it's impossible in games without full loot and ffa, open pvp.
Otherwise after some time, all players focused on non combat aspects would have to fight to advance further.
There's going to be a huge pressure put on crafting aspects, and hence on economy.

I'm tired of answering to things like: it's going to be a rage gankfest. There's just too much to loose without using head to think, but only to breathe.

Beside well known core features, there are too many small things to mention, but are an important part of immersion. Just to mention couple of them:
    - fantastic sound effects - foot steps, pant, tons of environmental sounds
    - amazing dark ambience, created among others by imo best sky I've ever seen in all games I've ever played
    - advanced combat: active blocking system, shield bashing, independent weapon control in both hands and so on
    - skill cap, forcing players to choose skill they want, thus limiting so called "best character builds" - it's one of core sandbox features
    - no global chat , only local
    - almost no fast traveling possibilities other than mounted

And the most important thing: no more easy, and dumbed down gameplay dedicated to carebears.

For all important features, look for ppt presentation, as it contains useful summary.

Though I support SV and their concepts (block c here), please don't list things as fact like the DnF failbots did.

We know that there will be very little in the game at launch as told to us by the devs. A lot of what you wrote is promised to be in game but may not be there at the beginning. I can handle that if they remain honest. If they start the "greatest game ever made" DnL or DnF hype machine then screw them and their game.

So bottom line, I agree look at the PowerPoint presentation and some videos.

I just ask the fans to not become the rampant hype machine that Dork-n-Fail had and  start saying things will be "facts" when most likely they won't for some time.

Thanks, I'll look for the .ppt. Any other feedback about interesting features is greatly appreciated.

wtf are you talking about ?
All things I've mentioned above are already working, and being implemented consequently in preorder beta stage.
Watch almost 4 months old official beta footage (combat + sound effects)

There are still warm, official screenshots posted on grome's website. Dare to go there, see them, and read again what you posted above ?

Aside from darkfall, there has to be at least 1 well made full pvp skill based game in this decade, or there won't be any until blizzard makes such mmorpg, and start dumbing it down - like EA did to UO.

If SV succeeds, and attract enough playerbase (may it be similar to eve's) within 1 year, 3/4 mmorpg dev studios will reconsider their choices: another easy game for teenagers with cash shop, or something challenging.

I'm not a hardcore pvper, but what really makes me hope this game will succeed is the skill based build system (or whatever its called), and the non instanced, non zoned world map. Basically I want to play Asherons Call 2, the way it should have been.

From what I read the crafting system is suppose to be new and intressting.

Looking forward to the pvp ofc :)

What does mean "hardcore pvper" ?
I always thought there are casual pvping players and PKers, but hardcore pvper ?
Is it somebody who's pvping even naked, holding dry stick against whole army ?

Just waiting till crafting in MO will be called hardcore, and all other games focused on massive player interaction, not dumbed down multiplayer games with repeating content.

Interesting the official SV site disagrees with you as to what is currently turned on in game.

I have seen the pictures and vids. I have yet to see anything in the beta leaks that looks like what the devs were showing 4 months ago.

All I have seen is a bunch of ill equipped people most of which were naked. Nothing like the well known Youtube video from a few months ago with NPC's , horse, PC's in full armor, etc. and especially not what is shown in the cave video.

Not sure I support much of anything in MO yet, seems like the game design is a bit too focused on FFA PVP for me.

I prefer hybrid games more like EVE where I can jump into PVP when I chose and out again when I'd rather be left alone. (DAOC was great for the same reason)

The game promises a lot, only time will tell how much of it actually gets delivered and turns out to be useful or fun.

What I think is important to any sand-box type game is that the developers provide a large set of tools for the players to use to create their own experience.

Some folks feel this is where DF fails the most, not enough tools at launch but perhaps in time they'll be able to rectify that situation.

I suspect MO is going down the same road, so players might have to be paitent and wait for development to catch up to expectations.

    I wish the game well.

    Couple Questions:

Are their levels and how fast will it take to cap?

    Are their safe zones?

    Does this game use dx10?

What are some objectives? (sieges, capture points, etc)

     How instanced is the world?

How big is the world (compared to other games)?

    Fanbois = Carebears

maybe you're still having on mind 1.0.1 version.
2.0.2 brought crafting, some gear and couple kilograms of minor improvements. It can be found, but due to NDA I won't nor will post resources here.

btw. 2nd video footage didn't show caves, but sewers ;)
and yes, since latest patch there are torches from what I know.

I remind again, external beta is a way different thing, than internal or closed tests, in which everything may work fine.

There were plenty problems with login server not being able to hold even 100 peeps, while in closed beta tests 40 people is not a problem. I don't think its the right thread to talk about technical things, so let's stay with features that customers would like to see.

    1. whose levels ?
    2. nope, this ain't pve multiplayer themepark dumbed down game for carebears taste
    3. it may utilize it, as UE3 provides service for DX10. Currently only dx9.
4.objectives ? main objectives is having fun while playing.
This ain't a game providing straight forward path of playing.
Search for definition of sandbox games, and read the difference between them, and themepark games. Plenty good arguments are being posted on mortal online official forums.
5.did you read at least ppt presentation ?
as for now there's going to be implemented only 1 instance: arena.
    6. the scale of realms in different games cannot be compared.
Some of them are very big, but players may travel across them within half an hour, while other games have very small realms but traveling takes much time, considering all obstacles and gameplay features.
As for now there's going to be 1 continent at release containing 64^2 virutal km.It's not small, as well as it's not big.
