Judge Sonia Sotomayor confirmed! First Hispanic female in history on the Supreme Court!

popinjaypopinjay Member Posts: 6,539

Okay. It hasn't officially today happened yet, but nine Republicans are voting "yay", so it's a foregone conclusion. :)

Congratulations Judge Sotomayor. It's about time and America looks forward to many years of moderate decisions to come!

I suppose you didn't know that in 06' Bush nominated a hispanic to the supreme court and he was shot down by libs. So its nothing 'exiting and new" that they've done.

And congratulations on many years of racist judging...

(that we've had so many examples of so far from her)

Was she the best candidate for the job or was she picked because she is a female hispanic?

Sotomayor IS the first, not sure why you are so hating on it though. Can't you just enjoy history being made? Always with the gloom, Dewm. (I think that rhymes, haha)

Did you say she was a moderate?  I disagree.

Heh, time will tell.  It's likely she will be on the court most of my remaining life, so we shall see.

Well then you shouldn't have a problem with the healthcare plan failing. Seeing how a good majority of republican and democrat voters seem to want it to fail.

You are the one who is truly racist. you are so blinded by the skin color that it doesn't matter what her policies are.

Where as I am not racist, I can look past her skin color, or where she grew up. I only look at her policies, and things that she has said in the past.

Whoa! Dewm gets in the first slightly off topic jab!  Nicely played my man, just remember to pace yourself as this may be a long thread.  I would not want you to shoot off all your guns too soon.

You know what my favorite statement from that article was?

"The National Rifle Association is strongly opposing her and has threatened to downgrade its ratings of any senator who votes to confirm Sotomayor."

Oh noes, my NRA rating got downgraded because I voted for her!

Thats all you need to know.  If you just reverse the words WHITE and LATINA, and man and woman, pray tell how fast that "judge" would be thrown out on his racist white a$$.   I'm sure she's a fine woman, but she doesn't think like a judge.   Qualified, yes.  Deserving, nope.  The hypocrisy in all of this is astounding, much like Obama's "typical white woman" line.  HOLY crap if Bush sad "typical black man"!!!  The context wouldn't have mattered in the slightest and the media would've demanded his quick death;)   Again, pathetic.

A good majority of Republican voters want this to fail, I have doubts about your claim of a majority of Democrat voters.  Provide a reliable link.

Thanks!  Actually the quote was: she hoped a “wise Latina” judge would usually make better decisions than a white man.

I don't know maybe "wise latina" woman can make better decisions then white man or any man for that matter; that statement really does little to change my opinion and by itself does not prove she is racist.

Another historic day! I'm very pleased that a judge with such vast experience has been confirmed to the High Court. It was also refreshing to see some republicans break ranks and cast a rational and logical vote for a change. Still, saddening to see so many in the GOP allow petty partisanship and the potential loss of campaign dollars to cloud their judgment.

I'd like to congratulate these 9 republicans:

    • Lindsey Graham (S.C.)

    • Lamar Alexander (Tenn.)

    • Christopher Bond (Mo.)

    • Susan Collins (Maine)

    • Olympia Snowe (Maine)

    • Richard Lugar (Ind.)

    • Mel Martinez (Fla.)

    • Judd Gregg (N.H.)

    • George Voinovich (Ohio)

It'll be exciting to look at future senate races and see what impact this vote had.

Actually she is not. Justice Benjamin Cardozo was. That is unless you want to argue semantics that he was Portuguese and not Spanish-speaking.

After all, it's you folks who state that we should not argue semantics.

Yeah its true she's a member of the Hispanic Klu Klux Klan (LaRaza: "For those inside the race everything! For those outside the race nothing!"). But lets just focus on her race and gender so we can feel good about appointing a racist to the supreme court. Nice rationalizing there children.

You know, the road to hell is paved with the best intentions. Keep that in mind.

Let's also remember that there are just as many red bricks as blue one's on the road to Hell as well. No ones hands are clean.
