How fast is the combat?

PaincakePaincake Member Posts: 139

I saw a youtube vid recently and the speed of the combat really seemed adrenaline rush style. I absolutely love a fast combat style.

Holy shit :O

Can the combat really get as fast paced as it shows in this video? This seems way beyond the combat of my old fashioned 80 rogue in WoW. Jeez, I wish I could join the beta. But I don't feel safe pre ordering yet :P

When I compare it to this video, it seems much much slower.

If this game has lenghty duration on global cooldowns, its probably not for me. But I the other video looks really brutally awesome.

That second video is more how the game play normally without all the +attack speed in that 1st video.

What is so cool about Aion's combat system is that it is based off of animations and not global cooldowns such as 2s/1.5s for WAR/WoW.  Stacking attack speed increases animation speed and lowers cooldowns which is what that assassin was doing.  So there are many options with stat stacking.  There are videos of other classes like Chanters with + crit and + attack speed that attack very fast as well.

I believe stacking + crit is more widely thought of as the way to go, but to each their own.  I think attacking this quickly would make whoever you were attacking freak out which could be awesome.

Exactly my thoughts. Lightning reflexes with fast atack speed is what Assassin should all be about.

I am not bothered by maximising the DPS potential. I play for entertainment, and would love to get that type of atack speed the more I progress. I just really hope I won't be limitated/ restricted like in the second video.

Yup, this. The games "GCD" is based off of your attack speed. (So for an assassin without stacking any attack speed at all you'll have a 1.2s GCD, which is pretty much about the same as rogue GCD or 1s in WoW).

The assassin class is a very fast class to play though, with a ton of abilities.

I do not think it works like that exactly, +attack speed will make animations faster but i can guarantee you that at lvl 11 i was doing 8/9 attacks in 7 sec(so more than one attack per second). With  engraving pattern skills it would speed up (they seem to have faster animations) and +speed on gear would also make it faster.

Depens on your playstyle and class.. my sorcerer drop mobs super fast.. and my templar takes a few more shots... BUT no downtime.. wich in the long run means same time to kill :3

If you watch The Karate Kid backwards it's about this karate champ that just kinda slowly becomes a pussy and ends up moving back to Jersey

I have played wow since the beta, it is not slower at all if you are playing the assassin anyway (that char i have tried myself till lvl 21). You might have that feeling at early levels but once you have enough skills, it is considerably faster than rogues, druids or dks in unholy presence and this is without any gear to speed up the basic animations. Not only could I chain the skills faster, I would never run out of skills to use at a given moment, so it was a matter of priorities as well from a certain point.

I have actually timed my chains so it is not even a perception problem, it is a simple fact that you can chain them faster than 1 sec global cooldown unbuffed(at version 1.0 anyway). Seeing as you also have a quick charge, comparable to warrior's charge but faster, flying, running speed boost and "shadowstep", you also move faster. When I dueled with flying it seemed wow was not that fast afterwards.
