I know people have heard me saying Square has been getting money hungry and this game will be rushed out the door, well maybe here is a small bit of proof.
www.joystiq.com/2009/06/22/rumor-ffxiv-beta-may-kick-off-in-september/
First of all they are saturating the RPG market with around 20+ releases all based on the same type of FF game /series,they have moved to money over quality, saturating the market.
Now this read kind of shows the game is somewhere maybe JPN first, but definitely will be beta tested much sooner than most thought. This is why no new races, they wanted a working product fast,so they can get it out to make money. This is also why they have chosen to change the game setup from FFXI,this type of game will take a lot less effort to make.I bet they are already working on the first expansion to sell us.
On a side note Square is also getting into the rpg card game industry,i think Square has gone ballistic, they are throwing out anything and everything into the market now,i wonder if quality will be a factor anymore.
I might add that a September Beta, sounds incredibly accurate if they wanted to get the game selling by Christmas time.sep/oct/nov/dec not quite a full 4 months ,but it sounds a bout right to me.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

A lot of assumption for a game not yet released. I guess I kinda agree with the races being released. I wished they would have brought something new to the table in regards to that, but over all, I think the game is looking good.
You don't even know since when this game is under development...
FF franchise has always had solid storyline etc. maybe new races just didn't fit. Perhaps, who cares about new races, MMO has been the same for almost 10 years with elvaans, humans etc. and the RPG market has always seen the same Tolkien races over and over again and nobody ever complained.
Also, you're refering to rumors, go away...

I am not sure what the problem is you have with FFXIV or Square. You rant about how the game is rushed, everything is the same and they made it simple so they can rush it out the door.
Then on another post you spin that argument in the exact opposite direction:
"I don't mind them re using old characters,it is kind of nostalgic and keeps the same feel from FFXI.I would have been super pissed if they re used the EXACT same models, but at least these actually took some work to redesign."
What is it? "took some work to redesing" or "This is why no new races, they wanted a working product fast,so they can get it out to make money"
Please make up your mind before posting again. It just makes you look bad.
Just for the record, i am not a FFXIV fan, i have not even followed it that much except reading the odd post here and watched the trailer. I don't even feel i could comment on the game at this stage, there is just not enough or too vague information.

PS: The Magic the Gathering card is called "Psychatog" not "Psychotog" since he is an Atog not an Otog.
Well it definately isn't a rumor that they are releaseing the game in 2010 probably around November like they did with FFXI. So they would have to be getting close to going beta with that kind of time line. You have to figure they spent about 4 months beta testing FFXI and they said they were going to test this even longer so you could guess maybe a 6 month or so beta which takes you to 2010 easy. Plus all the marketing, sales, and distribution they need to get ready they will have to do that ahead of time. My guess they are closer to gearing up a beta pretty quickly.
It says right on the FFXIV website that the game will release in 2010. FFXIII is set to release in the spring of 2010 so I would imagine this game will release in the summer or fall of 2010.
Started production 2005 four years later they anounce it, fall of that year they announce a 66-8 month beta, feb-march of 2010. Plus another 2 months for production puts it may-june 2010
So first game came out 2003, next game comes out summer 2010. Doesn't sound rushed to me. But honesty...it could only take em 1 day to build, or 20 years...its about how good the game is.
(Take spore, they worked on it from 1998-2008 and it was still just a "ok" game) So lets wait and see...

As mentioned before; the game isn't scheduled to launch until 2010 and they're giving XIV a longer beta-period than XI, which was only four months. It's becaouse of these points that a September beta-release has been anticipated since E3.
Also mentioned before is that you don't know how long this game has been in development. It has the same producer as Final Fantasy XI, a single member from the vast team it takes to develop an MMO, but the actual development teams can and most likely are entirely separate from each other.
The same team responsible for the creation and maintenance of Final Fantasy XI is probably not the exact same team working on XIV. Nor any of the other three games, Final Fantasy XIII, Versus, or Agito. Each of these games have different playstyles, different stories, and different game engines.
September beta does sound incredibly accurate. Which is reason for the Tokyo Game Show September 24-27. Which was announced quite a few months ago...

I have two things I need to say.
The first one is a little off subject, but I wish to ask this. You know FF XIII Agito, that is supposed to come out on the PSP? Is that a separate storyline with the FF XIII world, or does it somehow connect to FF XIII or FF XIII Versus? Also, does anyone know when FF XIII Agito is coming out? Looks a bit interesting.
The second thing is on subject. Is it true that the beta version will come out in September? For how long? And does both PS3 and PC get a beta version at the same time?
Underlined part: For the most part, yes. But SE has screwed up before. Does anyone remember FF VII: Dirge of Cerberus? The game proved that SE is not invincible, they can screw up. So, here's to hoping that SE does not screw up FF XIV...and makes it group-oriented...
From what I've read, if I understand correctly, all the Final Fantasy XIII games take place in the same world, at the same time, but the stories are all separate from each other. You might hear reference to another game's main protagonists & antagonists, or recognize the influence of their actions if you've played all the games, possibly even see familiar characters in your peripheral somewhere, but I think the XIII series is suppoed to be more about the story of the world itself rather than being about the characters. No idea when these are coming out, but they're all in my Amazon shopping cart already.
I think September is everyone's best guess. Tokyo Game Show 2009 is from September 24-27, longer beta than four months, scheduled for release mid 2010. Nothing is official, there haven't been any actual announcements, but we might hear some concrete information soon from the UK's GameCon this month.
Edit: I forgot to add, I actually liked Dirge of Cerberus but only because I liked Vincent Valentine. But there was no way in hell I was going to BUY it. It took SO long for that game to become a greatest hits. The game as a whole was quite crappy and the story seemed a bit shoddy. I expected something more to the style of Devil May Cry (I think we all did) and it ended up being more like Shinobi with less substance and crappy controls. Thanks a lot for ruining the one thing I loved from FFVII, SE. </3

Yes 2003 because it was released in NA on October 28th, 2003 for PC (still blows my mind as to why it was delayed for the PS2 in NA, was it an issue with the hard drive over here? can't remember...)
As far as the topic goes: Dude, stop. You sound ridiculous. First of all, you don't know when the beta is coming out. Second of all, the games been in development for awhile now (since 2005 I think). Third, why would they release it in December of this year when the tentative release date is TBA 2010? Fourth, they have different development teams working on different titles so it's not like one team is pumping out all these games (and to someone else, I believe the people doing FFXIV are mainly the same people who did FFXI except for some art guy who's from FFXII). Fifth, it's totally your opinion that those titles were bad. FFXII has gotten some good reviews so there are people who would disagree with you.
p.s. theoretically if the beta did start in september and they didn't already state they were releasing in 2010 (sometime AFTER FFXIII releases in spring 2010) you would still be wrong about a december 2009 release because the beta will be more than 4 months which was the beta length for FFXI

There were a few things that hampered the PS2 version in NA.
One was the fact that mmorpgs were basically a PC exclusive to that point, and there was concern over whether there would even be a market for a console based mmorpg here. Second was the harddrive. Convincing people to pay $100 for something they could only use for one game ( the harddrive ) was another concern as far as viability in the NA market. In fact, Sony took a big hit on that later as they basically lied to help market FFXI ( by claiming there would be a stream of games available to take advantage of the harddrive, which turned out to be false ). This is what eventually led to the harddrive being removed completely with the revamped PS2's and FFXI sales being discontinued for Playstation 2 ( outside of the boxes already available ).
Sony also wanted to give their own EQOA some time on the market without competion... which also factored into delaying the HDD some more. They knew EQOA sucked........ oh god did it suck
