EQ2 Questions

I have a few questions that may or may not have been answered before...

1) What is the best Race, Class, and Profession for being the main Tank in the group? I dont mind if the damage is weak, but i would like the ability to solo, if i wont beable to solo... then thats no biggie

2) What kind of housing does this game have? Can every player own a house, and when they do, do they have to build stuff on it? Or have NPC's On it? Do you have to build the Guild Houses and are u able to have NPC's on those as well?

3) How easy is it to become a high lvl in Crafting? I plan of being a pure crafter untill a certain point, so i can supply my "Tanker" with all the armor he needs. (Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, and the Crafting Profession that allows you to make houses and furniture: these are what i want to get high lvl in before i start killing stuff)

please try to answer these questions with as much detail as possible, Thanks in Advanced

I believe the best tanks in the game are in the Warrior line, so that's the Guardian or the Berserker.  From what I understand, they have the best taunts in the game so they have no problem keeping aggro.  As for playing them solo, I don't think you'll have too much of an issue at the lower levels but as you progress to higher levels, you'll at least need a healer.  I noticed your sig and just so you know, tanks here are ALOT different than tanks in CoH.  Tanks in CoH can basically stand there forever taking damage.  The tanks here specialize in taunting to keep aggro, but they do take significant damage which is why you need a healer with you.  Since the tanks have a powerful taunt, it will keep the mobs on the tank and not the healer.

Everyone gets a house but you are required to pay the upkeep.  The starter Inn room has an upkeep of 5 silver a week.  It's not like UO or SWG where you get a deed and can place the house anywhere.  The housing is inside the towns (either Qeynos or Freeport) and are basically accessible by a door in an Inn or on a street, depending on where you live.  Everyone who purchases in that "structure" uses the same doors and just enters their own place.  You can't store items like your weapons and such in your house.  For that you use the bank.  The bank has a bunch of slots to put items in, however, I suggest you get yourself some "strong boxes" and place those in your bank since that will exponentially increase your storage area since each box can then be opened in your bank to store items.  In your house you CAN place quest rewards and such.  For instance I did a quest where I received a "Quest Scythe" but it was not a weapon.  I could place it on the wall in my home.  You can also purchase furniture for your home too.  To promote furnishing homes, there's some system in place where the more furniture your home has, the less the upkeep is or something like that.  Someone else might want to elaborate on how that works.  You can restrict access to your home.  There's like 3 levels of access.  One allows people to enter your home and look around but not do anything (visitor).  The next allows people to enter your home and interact with items you may have in there such as your statue if you bought the DVD version (friend).  The last allows them to actually place and remove items from your home (I think it's owner).  Also you can set the default access level to none so nobody who isnt listed can enter.  One note on this though, when you start selling items on the in game market instead of to an NPC (which you need to leave your character logged in for) it auto switches your default level to visitor so people can come in and buy your wares.  When you exit merchant mode it resets the default level to whatever you had it at.  However, if you get kicked off the game while in merchant mode, when you log back in, you will be out of merchant mode but your apartment will remain at Visitor level.  You can manually change this back if you like.

I have no information on Guild Housing, perhaps someone else can help out there.

The issue with being a "pure crafter" is a resource one.  For the higher level items, you're going to need items which you can't purchase from an NPC.  And depending on your price point, you may not want to buy them from the open market either, which leaves only one alternative:  Harvest them yourself.  As for your crafting specialty, you can't do what you want to do there.  You will have to choose your profession.  From your list, it looks like you listed Armorsmith, Weaponsmith and Carpenter.  With a single character you can't do all 3.  Your character can be a tank class (adventuring class) and one of the 3 crafting professions you have listed.  I suggest you take a look at the EQ2 site for Artisans to see the different profession options you have available.  As for the difficulty in levelling crafting, from what I understand it's more about a patience thing.  You'll need to get the items to do the crafting which takes time in iteself, and then making some of the higher end items requires several sub items to be crafted as well.  Also, there are inter-dependencies between professions where an armorsmith may need items from a jeweler for some higher level items.

Hope this answers most of your questions.

Berserkers are second but since their rage power has been taken down a notch they are not as good. Defilers are also good. No class can solo more than greens past lvl 20 so don't get a class that can solo well, get a class that you like. As for races, all races equal up at higher levels so be a rebel and make a Troll Warlock or a Ogre assassin.

I think you can buy merchants and crafting tools to dot your house as you could in DAOC. Not too sure about guild housing.3) How easy is it to become a high lvl in Crafting? Some crafters may never leave Freeport if they have a supporting guild that can deliver supplies. It is also a slow process. Some what of a crafting grind and you will be pressing the same button over and over to gain levels. please try to answer these questions with as much detail as possible, Thanks in Advanced

I believe all classes which derive from the 'fighter' tree can tank, but not all can taunt well.  I found myself have a hard time taunting with a paladin- just make sure to get adepts in your taunts and it should work.    Paladins are good tanks in terms of AC but they are horrible in terms of damage, I can still solo, but the damage output is weak ((I solo yellow mobs and lose maybe 15% of my hp and 50% of my power- but I wear the best armor money can buy at level 22 so it's not for everyone))

    2) What kind of housing does this game have? Can every player own a house, and when they do, do they have to build stuff on it? Or have NPC's On it? Do you have to build the Guild Houses and are u able to have NPC's on those as well?

There are some freakishly expensive houses in North Qeynos... 2-3 floors with a lot of rooms but they cost thousands and thousands of status points and platinum.  These might be guild houses.  There are also player houses, but no one under 50 with hundreds and hundreds of hours could afford most of them.  Luxury apartments aren't too bad, they cost gold only.

Not easy at all.  I'm among the highest weaponsmiths in the game and it takes hours and hundreds of combines to level up.  I haven't adventured in weeks and everyone in the guild outdistanced me.  The only upside is I craft weapons more powerful than the majority of folks can use at this time.  ((level average is probably around 20-25, whild I craft 30+ weapons)).  If you want to sell any of what you craft, you cannot adventure, you have to spend most of your time crafting unless you can play 10 hours a day.  I play 2-4 hours a day and I never ever have time to join a group to hunt, quest or do anything but mindless crafting.
