Do not pick templar. I enjoy the templar. If everything you pick sucks, you should pick a caster class, I did not really care for them, it's okay if you make them suck. Leave Templar alone.

i prefer chanters ...from beta i player a warrior for like 20 min and decided healign every 5 monsters was too mutch time consuming. so Chanters because they are diffcult to kill in pvp (tho u will rely suck when it commes to fightign mages/archers due to thier slow down spells- and mages dont suck in this game they do a great job at enoyying people lol and very usefull at killing eletes with their sleep spells ans such) anyways back to saying chnters are awsome....u can buf obviosly that wuld be ure main role and usaly ure gana be the healer if not enougth clerics are present in the party (u need 2 healers to do any sort of elete killing qests ...those start at lvl 17^^) thier other role is sititng near the tanks and slowign the enemy attacks and makign it stats drop/ and makign mele characters and ureself do more damedge(yea chnaters have like 1 rainged spell and thats from when u are the begginer class so its not mutch use past lvl 12-14 except maybe pulling mobs.) anywas each class is ure liking thats just my little explanation of my chanter life and playstyle.
so its simple rely to decide.
Mages=u love lots of damedge and not trying not to get hit.....u will die if theres more then 1 enemy usaly or maybe if ure inexcperienced (if had mages kill me but only in 1 vs 1s)
Summoners(forgot real name i think)= well they are multi purpose theres inst alot of them....so i idk...they kill fast if they catch u when ure unprepared....had one kill me in like 4 seconds when i was distracted lol.
Clerics= healers they usaly destroy mele charcters in 1 v1 unless mele char can properly stop them form casting their heals.(when clerics fight clerics fight will not end unless thier mana runs out....and the other guy uses like a potion to boost his)
Chanters= my prefrence, multiple uses.
Gladiators/Templars or what ever..= tanks. gladiators do more damedge templars(or what ever) are just tanks that take mroe damdege .
Assasins=tactical hit and run people soem of the highest dps in mele. thinkt heyr are the enxt class ill play.
Raingers=hit and run...they are highly enoying to kill but dont do enougth damedge to kill anyone that can heal.
i only got to lvl 20 in beta so my oppinions are not 100%

I want to be a class guild need be in need of, and random party's... cleric sounds interesting, but are they fun end game? would you recommend cleric or an hunter you say ?
Just a hint, if someone say it takes alot of skill to play that class well... stay away. Thats code for, there gimp and it takes more to be successful. If you know your super leet go for it, and if you know your not, stay away. Mages for instance are great and take alot of skill in WoW. But you and I now there gimp lol

I currently play WoW like the op does and I feel his pain with the mage.
You could take a person and have them play a Mage and watch them struggle and then set them down with a retardin(ret pally) and they would think they were great pvpers.

WoW is far from balanced. Maybe AION is much more balanced.
I would suggest playing a assasin. Why? Its different than what your use to playing and maybe you would like it better. I know thats what I did. I tried playing caster after caster and then when I played the rogue, I had a blast.

I personally play a spirit master. I think they are a great solo class due to the built in tank and high dps. They also get a skill around level 20 sum that gives +20% drops, yes we really do you can cast it every 2 mins They are great against those burst dmg players in PvP due to their damage bubble, which absorbs pretty much all the burst dmg and leaves them sitting there waiting on recharges while you kill them. Their water pet also gets a wing clip to knock people out of the air so they cant run away. which in the abyss comes in very handy. They can block magic to shut down other casters mainly used on healers so the fights don't last 2 hours lol. Also pretty high up (50 i believe) you get your 4000 dp summon which is CRAZY over powered lol. Think of a summable raid boss that will strike fear into anyone who trys to come against you. Instant summon pets comes around level 30 so you can swap pets fairly fast. I personally have never came up aginst a single player of another class that I could not defeat. (as long as they were around my level) But like everyone said try out some classes and find the one that suits you. Some classes are ment to be weak and have no solo ability yet have crazy support and crowd control

just don't answer.. i played the vanilla wow.. i had a high warlord mage.. took me 9 mouths to get it...
but it was not enough and i definitely did not suck...
still the mage was not as near as powerful as the shamans or priest's.

umm this is mmorpg forrums..we are discussing the classes and how they play so people can find a good decription and decide to use that class. in the REAL forrums at aion.com(currently closed till beta starts again) i agree...so far people are only sereusly trolling there if the WoW word is said.....cuz 3/4 of aion players probbaly hate WoW with a passion

To get things back on topic, Id reccomend playing a assasin OP.
It will be the biggest change of pace and playstyle that you could see. And since maybe you havent tried A-MELEE B-STEALTHER, it might just suit your taste.
IMO it kinda goes down to a mindset sort of thing, not a HOW good are you thing.
Rogues in WoW for instance which are somewhat similiar to assasins in AION, are all about catching someone at the wrong time, locking them down(stuns/silence/Blinds/poisons), kicking there ass and getting back into stealth asap so you can do it again.
Mages were imo a reactive class, a counterpunching class. They were a DO THIS quickly until you see them do this, or wait for them to burn this, I mean with the roots, slows, spellsteal and silence thats how they felt to me. And do it perfectly and quickly or thats it. A very unforgiving class.
Some people haver more of a certain mindset or thinking to do things better. I know some people are incredible at kiting other players, and some just dont get it or will never do it quite as well. It takes a cautious person to do this well. If you got too much of a killer instinct and are playign a softer class that can kite, well that will just get you killed.

Let's take the mages on wow for an example. Nobody really needed them so no one ever asked for a mage, Shamans, warriors and prests, everybody always need them.
So for me: chanter= shaman? But the chanter class does not seems to be so fun...

There is really no simpler way I could put it.
When a person finds that one class he or she really excels at and enjoys, it doesnt matter when that class may be nerfed, or buffed, or not be the MOST popular class in groups.
If its what you enjoy, its what you enjoy.
Its impossible to always have the perfect class anyways. There are always going to be advantages and disadvantages of all classes. Pick what looks the most fun and go with it.

- mana shield
- blink

I had the most fun with Templar.

i played mages to and they r doomed to fail in pk games
traditionaly rouges and scouts shine true in pk (asians have some thing with arrows and ninjas)
simply becouse they have stealth and ivisable skills (element of surprise and first attack are very powerfull in pk)

i dont like the responsibility as a healer or tank, but someone told me EVERYBOY and there cousins make dpg gladiators,, so that out of the question.

But since WoW was released, the forums have degraded over the years from helping/answering question to just straight dogging everyone you see, trying to make fun of their gear, their arena raidings, even their achievements ( how lame is that )

umm this is mmorpg forrums..we are discussing the classes and how they play so people can find a good decription and decide to use that class. in the REAL forrums at aion.com(currently closed till beta starts again) i agree...so far people are only sereusly trolling there if the WoW word is said.....cuz 3/4 of aion players probbaly hate WoW with a passion

To get things back on topic, Id reccomend playing a assasin OP.
It will be the biggest change of pace and playstyle that you could see.
And since maybe you havent tried A-MELEE B-STEALTHER, it might just suit your taste.
IMO it kinda goes down to a mindset sort of thing, not a HOW good are you thing.
Rogues in WoW for instance which are somewhat similiar to assasins in AION, are all about catching someone at the wrong time, locking them down(stuns/silence/Blinds/poisons), kicking there ass and getting back into stealth asap so you can do it again.
Mages were imo a reactive class, a counterpunching class.
They were a DO THIS quickly until you see them do this, or wait for them to burn this, I mean with the roots, slows, spellsteal and silence thats how they felt to me.
And do it perfectly and quickly or thats it. A very unforgiving class.
Some people haver more of a certain mindset or thinking to do things better. I know some people are incredible at kiting other players, and some just dont get it or will never do it quite as well. It takes a cautious person to do this well. If you got too much of a killer instinct and are playign a softer class that can kite, well that will just get you killed.
And on the other hand, if you play a stealther and are never willing to take chances and get into the mix, you will never reach your potential either.

Let's take the mages on wow for an example. Nobody really needed them so no one ever asked for a mage, Shamans, warriors and prests, everybody always need them.
So for me: chanter= shaman? But the chanter class does not seems to be so fun...
assassins looks really cool, but are they really a "good party class " ?

Do you have to have a group-- sorc/chanter or even clerics are very good.
Hell, its a simple decision. This isnt wow. There isnt the OP class atm and I get the feeling that there wont ever be either.
All the classes are good. No one is really gimp or OP.
Its really not about WHOSE good, but What YOU enjoy.
There is really no simpler way I could put it.
When a person finds that one class he or she really excels at and enjoys, it doesnt matter when that class may be nerfed, or buffed, or not be the MOST popular class in groups.
If its what you enjoy, its what you enjoy.
Its impossible to always have the perfect class anyways.
There are always going to be advantages and disadvantages of all classes.
Pick what looks the most fun and go with it.
Maybe its not the class and ever think that maybe you just fucking suck?

To tell someone they suck because they struggled with the mage is just a bit skewed, because they could prolly play many other classes and do well.
Mages are soft.
They have no pally bubble.
They have no cloak of shadows vanish.
They have no heal.
The burst dps of a mage is weak.
They have no pets.
All the CC of a mage is broke on damage or via trinket.

COMPARED to the other class's skill the mages suck.. That's what I think after my first year on vanilla wow. I have no idea how good they are in the expansions but i had enough of the mages, so I kindly asked people for advise until u showed up.
