As my title states I am a avid mmorpg Veteran. I have been playing mmorpgs for over 8 years now I enjoy some free 2 play games like Atlantica and Runes of Magic. the main things I enjoy in a good game and i will be honest about this is Great graphics, and in game BALANCE this means Balance for everything. Cash shop balance included. I hate games where the cash shop gives unfair advantages. I hate games where its obvious you cant progress without the cash shop. I don't mind spending money in a game I enjoy. However If the game is set up in such a way that it is enjoyable up until a point, then after that point they want you to pay MORE than a standard subscription fee mmorpg to keep enjoying that game, I see that as nothing more than a out right Scam.
So My questions about this game is all cash shop based.
Is the cash shop really that expensive?
Is the cash shop Forced on you after a point in the game?
again I have to ask and be honest IS THE CASH SHOP Mandatory to do some of the content in the game OR to be socially accepted in order to complete some group oriented content in the game?
Why did so many people and I mean a lot of people ( I herd about the MASSIVE Rohan ditchings all the way in Guild wars) why did so many people leave this game once the cash shop came out?
I want to try this game but I do NOT want to waste my time. It could be the best game in the world I will not EVER pay more than 20 dollars a month to play a mmorpg. I would NEVER accept a game that gives PvP advantages to those who spend more money over those who dont. And lastly I would never play a game that forces players to spend more money as they progress to continue to enjoy the game.

I have the same thought and feeling, game that comes with a cash shop generally don't suit me well. I've played atlantica for couple weeks, now I'm lvl 63 and i'm quitting T_T becuz of the cash shop. I hate the licenses purchasing thing. So it has made me turning away from the game. well bb atlantica, it has been fun for the 63 levels.
Now I'm downloading Tcos, Chronicles of Spellborn. Heard the game doesn't have a cash shop but has some other issue that annoys some players. Anyway, I don't know until I try it so hope it is a game for me.
About Rohan, I tried for a few days, and then yea the cash shop turned me away as well. I h8 Cash shop so much >< if I want to purchase couple items that cost totally $40, why don't I go back to playing wow? :O
When I edit something, its for grammar. (edited)
i have been playing rohan since november and while a cash shop may be offensive to some i find this one refreshing since for a 1 time $5 fee you can sell items, charachters and money to other players online and then use that to purchase other items. purchase of items while helpful is not really necessary unless you become a guild master and then the only way to get stones you are required to use for your guild master skills is to buy them online. but by the time you are that level again you should have been able to sell enough items online to buy them. in the 4 months i have been playing i have made a lvl 61 charachter and sold him and made another lvl 50 and several others around lvl 30 without any major purchases until i just formed my guild. their cash shop also offers a game section where you can gamble for items worth more than you are gambling. having played diablo2 for years i find this game refreshing in the above manor instead of only having the choice of being hacked or scammed.
YNK has gotten greedy with their cash shop. Initially it was a one time $5.00 charge to join the exchange market where you could sell your ingames things to make money to buy cash shop items. They have since raised it to $10.00 & now take 10% of your sales price. You really need cash shop items to level, the exp points are so low it takes a rediculously long time to level. Cash shop items vary in price, but the one that I think is completely idiotic is they want $48.00 USD for a bag to expand your ingame storage. All characters share the storage, so people usually make another account to store their things on.
I think it's a great game, but their greed is driving me away. It's getting so it would be cheaper to play a pay game.
Lol i was just about to start playing the game and came here to read up on some general things and after reading the $48 bucks for storage...i don't think ill be playing, but is it seriously that bad? Like the OP im also a vet and i also enjoy playing free MMO's but i do spend $15-20/month if the game is actually fun, so with that much money would i survive or is this one of those games where people spend thousands of dollars?
The cash shop is never mandatory, you can play without it, you are at a definite disadvantage without it though. The game is fun, so give it a try. Take a look at the cash shop items, I think the extra storage is the most expensive. I don't know if people spend thousands, but they can sure spend a lot & easily over your limit. Unfortunately money talks in this game & the rich kids rule.
The game is free, how do you expect them to make money without cash shops? oh and there is no such thing as 'free lunch' in life. You gotto pay.
i played for a little bit i liked the dragon race class, fairly orginal, pretty neat.
i bought from a chash shop once, in S4 was just a looks item. realized in order for me to wear said item i had to buy it every month. i was like wtf,i guess you don't buy items so much as rent them
I agree with you Shastra, but when a free to play game ends up costing more than a pay to play game something is wrong LOL I'm talking basics to be able to compete in a balanced enviroment as was the original question.
As a player for a year and a half now, I'll be happy to answer your ?s:
Is the cash shop really that expensive?
No. The prices are normal for a game like this, and they have sales and promotions every day. Like in real life, you never have to pay retail if you don't wanna.
Is the cash shop Forced on you after a point in the game?
No. It's never forced on you. But, if you want to be leet in end game, you will have to spend a little to keep your skills maxed.
IS THE CASH SHOP Mandatory to do some of the content in the game OR to be socially accepted in order to complete some group oriented content in the game?
No. And most players travel in parties, where you can leech off of cash shop items that other party members are using like scrolls. There is one small dungeon that requires a cash shop ticket, but nothing else is cash shop based.
Why did so many people and I mean a lot of people ( I herd about the MASSIVE Rohan ditchings all the way in Guild wars) why did so many people leave this game once the cash shop came out?
THere was not a massive ditch when the cash shop came out. But a group did leave, because they didn't realize that a game with huge production quality like ROHAN needs a cash shop to sustain itself. Cheap bastards get "offended" that the company (YNK) dare make items for sale, like it's the players' God-given right to play a beautiful game for free. This is not a crummy little game, it's huge, with over a million players. It's been around for a year and a half here, and 5 years in Asia. That should tell you something.
If you spent $20 per month, you'd be very well off in this game. There is very little PVP advantage for spending money. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to build uber gear through the crafting system, instead of buying it. And, you can buy and sell gear from other players. I've spent about $30 over 18 months, and I've got a premier Wizard in game.
Hmmm well overall I did play the game about 2 months and decided it was not for me. Mostly was the cash shop, the way things worked in this game was way more greedy than other F2P games I have played before. Sure the game looks nice, and all but so does Granado Espada and the CS there is a bit less mandatory and a bit less of what I personally view as a scam.
