SWG question

ChallengeChallenge Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 36

I am thinking about getting either SWG, or AC2. Those are the ones. I am set on them.
1.) Does Star Wars Galaxies have one free month?
2.) Does Asheron's Call 2 have a good customer support/game supprt system?

If you had to go with one or the other, which one?

Thanks,

well, i've never played swg but i have played ac2.... and please, let me tell you. ac2 is pretty terrible.

  • UifzUifz Member Posts: 252
I agree. Beautiful graphics, lovely creatures, awful community, awful story, awful quests.

  • herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,925

SWG and AC2 have both free month.

AC2 and SWG have best graphics to date

AC2 is totally empty no one to play with.SWG is so filled they have to release 2 servers every 2 weeks to keep up and yet still its so overcrowded.

    Both games have awful quest.

I would only recommend you buy those 2 games if you have played  EQ,DAoC or even AO already.

I don't know about AC2, but I quit SWG after a month. There are so many exploits, everyone cheats for everything. It's all about economy there, regardless of how cool the action is. Also, it isn't policed at all. People say racial slurs, curse, tank you with their groups if you're opposing faction, they don't have to know you or be provoked. It's PK heaven. Also, the crafting rules the game. It was such a big letdown and so very unStar Wars. The cantinas are filled with Entertainers who get xp for you watching or listening to them. You HAVE to do this to relieve Battle Fatigue. They act like it's Miss Kitty's brothel there and have slave rings of a sexual nature openly and in their character biographies. It's practically a bad GOR novel and also, if I had kids, I'd never let them play it. It was also very pointlessly addicting. You really, really gotta kill a Rancor and grind your next profession (which should never have been encouraged, grinding, the professions are not fun anymore) to get that uber loot to get something more uber made that will cost you in excess of 100,000 credits. So basically, TEDIOUS. Most of the players are under 16. There are mostly players with tv & film names like Marlene Dietrich, Goku, Card CaptorSakura13, Buffy112, or lame names like WARDOG or Scooby Doo the Bothan and FISHEYE the Mon Calamari. It's not Star Wars and nothing is sacred there. If you like Star Wars, I don't recommend it. If you like Anarchy Online Player Vs. Everything style play and constant frustrating updates with daily server down time from 1 to 2 hours, go with SWG. So I'd go with AC2.

Oh, and SWG has at least 3 hours of broadband downloading required AFTER the install. Have fun! image Hope this is a perspective for you.

Ok let me give my opinion on both games. AC2 was my first MMORPG and SWG my second one. Both played to high level end for some months non stop.

    Let me start with AC2:
It has a realy nice lore and is worked out nice, only the developement of the story can't be influenced much by the players. But last news I have heard they are trying game mechanics to change this. The graphics and animations are good but the game can have some difficulties with your graphic drivers (but wich game doesn't ::::39::) The gameplay isn't that difficult, but the GUI isn't that customizable as you want, you only have 4 chatwindows you can drag around where you want, also your compass you can drag around. But all the rest is static and can't be changed position. For combat is realy nice, you can start autoattack, but a same level mob will level you on just autoattack. And you need to use skills that cost 1 skillpoint and a certain level. You gain one skillpoint for each level up to level 50 so this means 49 skillpoints. After level 50 it is the Hero system that makes it intressting to level further. Only thing they will change it with the expansion comming out soon. Also the game will get repetative and boring in some level ranges. The first 19 levels are realy nice and you have an epic quest series to follow and the levels come right quickly so not much boring hunting. Then the level range of 19 - 30 is spend mostly of the time hunting in group on Fets. Then a boring part starts at lvl 30 to get to level 39 then instant level 41 with only 3 quests and a little of hunting. Oh and get used to the sight of fets you will see it a whole lot with other colors and sizes, same goes for shreth and dillos. But again the expansion will bring in new stuff. As would do the monthly updates that broughed in also everytime new content (with the bugs). They changed it to 2 monthly updates, but bigger and fewer bugs in new content. Overal the game isn't that bad, but get boring and repetative at higher levels.

    Now SWG:
In my opinion still one of the best MMORPGs I have played, nice background story and players have the chance to influence this through the events and there is only 2 sides Rebels and Imperials. Both battle for the events outcome to turn to their interrests. Also a game where I found some realy good roleplay without a jerk that pass by and just destroy the scene. Probably also because you could find places where almost noone passes by as well. The combat wasn't that good as in AC2, liked that combat system a little bit more. But the level mechanics are nice. In SWG you don't have levels, but you advance your skills to higher levels. Each profession as a starter box that cost a certain amount of skillpoints and then every profession they had 4 branches you could advance in. And at the top a master box, before you could take that master box you needed all 4 branches at level 4. Each level in a branch gave you some extra skill you could use and also more possibilities to use different weapons/craft other stuff. You start out with 250 skillpoints and that is it, you can untrain skillboxes to free up skillpoints you need for other skillboxes. But you will loose the bonusses that that skillbox gave. Oh yeah graphics are realy great, but the animation could be better.

CSR: for both games I haven't needed much CSR, but the experience I have in both wasn't bad.

Both are good games, but you have to choice what you like. Fantasy? Then go AC2 and if SciFi go to SWG. Only think that there are now much better games comming or on the market. AC2 is boring at high level and SWG is fully out of balance with 90% resist armor and doc buffs and everyone chasing after getting Jedi isn't good for the game community. AC2 has a small community but it holds together (at least the european communities)

    Never played AC2 so I can't comment

Played SWG and Foxly's post is spot on as far as I'm concerned. Basically Star Wars Galaxies should just be called "Galaxies" as there is very little star wars about it. The names are there, some of the creatures look starwars but thats where any similarity stops. SWG is not a bad game (not brilliant y any means) but it is a terrible StarWars game.

    My main issues

COLLOSAL level grind to get to your profession of choice. I do not want to run around repeatedly shooting butterflies to get pistol exp.

VAST exploitation syndrome, ignored by SOE because the game would need to be re-written to fix it

    NO role playing by anybody.

    LOUSY quests

PVP is semi consensual, you can play a covert operative yes, but you can be found out by the opposing forces NPC and at that point you're fair game (as I found to my cost)

Ridiculous machanics in places. You are able to walk around with several thousand tonnes of resources in your back pack.

I hope you enjoy either of the game you choose, it will depend on your style of play.

I have not played AC2, but can comment on SWG.  Most of what others have said is accurate.  But to give you a view of how well the game captures a player, consider this.  My brother and myself and a real life friend all began together on SWG.  We are all AVID fans of roleplay in general and MMORPGs in particular - in fact because we are separated by distance it is the only way for us to play together any more.  Thus, we WANT to continue playing an MMORPG together.  After approximately a month we had mastered professions (so except for going Jedi there is nowhere to go skillwise) and the game had become boring.  The quests (badges, etc.) are tedius, boring and stupid in the extreme.  PvP while good in concept fails horribly due to a variety of reasons (some already mentioned by others here).  The bottom line is it held our attentionf or a month or two at best.  We have all quit the game now and are going to try something else (likely WOW though I don't hold out much hope).

I don't think the original poster really expected an answer after more than a year and 4 months. ::::35::

Next to that, I don't think he *still* thinks about either one at this very moment. Too many new games came out in the meantime.

imageFor all those reading this thread that have noted the griefer complaining about the date of the original post image(they're a biased fan of SWG anywayimage):

This topic is useful to those who are considering playing SWG, both pros & cons are listed.

So quit complaining about the original date of the topic.

all the things u said are so untrue. I wondering did you actually play this game.

1: soe is very strict about exploit, they dont give u warning. Once u are caught, u are out.
2: swg is not a pk heaven. You got the option to go overt or not. If you are not overt, player can't hit you.
3: there is no grinding. you can master a profession in less than a week.
4: downtime is normal in most mmorpg.
5: name?? in any mmorpg, there will be tv & film name. there will be stupid name.

OMG! That is the most retarded post I have ever read!

Okay: 1) THERE IS A HUGE BLOODY GRIND IN SWG, every class. You can't get a single Mastery in under a week unless you a) don't have a job b) don't have a lot of time off and c) don't have your weekends to yourself entirely dedicated to grinding out a class.

    2) Exploiters get a WARNING and get SUSPENDED, I have never heard of anybody being BANNED and neither has my husband who STILL PLAYS SWG at this moment and has for months, SOE CLAIMS to 'take action' against exploiters and states such instances are handled privately, but I have never met anyone who knew of anyone that was banned and I know of tons of exploiters. Once I heard of some suspensions last October due to a money exploit, but that's it and it was so few nobody could actually say who was busted.

    3) If SWG isn't Player Killer Heaven, then you go overt and tell me how long it takes for someone to grind you to dust with their gank group of friends as soon as you do without provocation. I've seen it. It happens everyday at the Imperial Outpost on Dantooine and the Rebel base on Corellia (theme park). So yes, you could say I HAVE played SWG, you insulting little snipe.

    4) Downtime in most MMORPG's happens once a week, if at all. You need to play more MMORPG's obviously.

    5) Film & TV names are enforced against in other MMORPG's like Rubies of Eventide, Dark Age of Camelot, World of Warcraft, Kal Online, Anarchy Online, etc. I think you will find SOE is the most lax MMORPG sponsor out there.  Film & tv names are common on SOE games, because they don't police at all.

At least try to support your empty statements when you don't agree with someone because you are biased and play the game they are criticizing.

My husband, who has played longer than I did and is a Bounty Hunter on Bria server on SWG already confirmed everything I have written here himself. Ask anyone who has played SWG. And I don't know if you are aware of this, but claiming someone is a liar because you disagree with them is a hallmark if immaturaty usually found in under 16's...

    1) all mmorpg come with a free month before you start paying.

2)turbine has a good record of CS.Even when i played and it was still turbine/microsoft i had the fastest response time ever with them

I think AC2 is a better game then SWG (IMHO) but AC2 when i left a year or so ago was totally empty and killed the meaning of a mmorpg .So i would go with SWG .

Personally, I was pretty appauled at AC2.  Only tried it recently, but was unimpressed with it's graphics, character customizations, etc.  Lot of game play issues and lag even in fairly empty zones.  Never liked Spacewar games, just my personal opinion, so I won't comment on SWG.
