Hey, first post on this part of the site. Haven't really been interested with Aion until recently, as I've been getting bored of my FPSs and have figured to delve back into the MMO world after both AoC and WAR failed me.
The game looks good... of course, I'm not hyping myself and I have trained myself to expect the worst with my last MMO experiences over the past two years. But I have interest, at the very least. The combat sounds interesting, the game's graphic design is very pretty, the customization is something very important to me, the concept of flight sounds very cool, and the classes all look very interesting to me (I've always been a fan of the standard warrior / priest / ranger / sorcerer types over the "every class can do a bit of everything"). I plan on hopefully getting into open beta to check the game out before I buy it, and if I can't get into that, just wait a couple months to see how everything is with the western community. I currently have two questions...
1. How do I apply for beta, if it isn't already too late? I lurked enough to realize that closed beta is almost finished, so I assume they would be doing some recruiting for open beta. Or will anyone who's willing be welcome to it on a first-come-first-serve basis?
2. What exactly is the subscription plan with this game? I assumed it was the standard $15 bucks a month, but I'm getting different feedback. Some say it's $15 / month, some say it's $10 / month, and others say you go by this odd dollar per large amount of hours played... which quite frankly, doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. Does anyone know what the payment method will be, or has it not been officially announced yet?
Thanks for any possible clarification.
If only SW:TOR could be this epic...

Standard 15 dollars a month plan for US and Europe.... And open beta will likely be first come first serve.. Tho, nothing has been made public knowledge on that yet.
There has been no word of an open beta sign up yet though everyone who has already pre-ordered id imagine is guaranteed a spot with the others perhaps on a first come first served basis.
Wolfenpride: <--Giant fucking sword syndrome.
Probably cause im trying to compensate for miniscule manhood.
1. Pre Orders are guaranteed into the beta. (I assume at all retailers, but I would check before committing). There is only one closed beta left, which is this weekend, and then there will be 2 (IIRC) Open beta events which have not been announced yet. It is currently unknown how to get into these, although I assume pre-order players will get in automatically.
2. It is $50 for the boxed game and then $15/mo. The paying per hours paid is the way the game works over in China and, I believe, Korea.
Why would they make subscription pricing different for the US? Supposedly in Asia you pay 18$ for a month of actually playing time not just a month even if you play for one hour and stop for a months time. All I know is they better make it worth the 15$ a month because that money could help fill up my gas tank.

Because it is the norm. For one, a lot of people in the east play in gaming cafes -- meaning that a normal monthly fee really does not work for them. Blizzard also has a separate method of payment in the east.
In all honesty though if $15 a month is too much as is why play?
I would like to see more games sub like way guildwars did but I guess with the financial success of wow that just wont happen anymore, I dont mind games keeping to the industry standard but when a new game comes out the will often try to value the game based on hype, which is where we should be careful. I have to say the best game for sub, when it came out and now, is LOTRO. It was about £17 for 3 months i think and at the start £100 for life membership, I got an offer the other day for a life time memebership for abou £49 I think, crazy good price unfortnately I stopped playing that game a long time ago. One thing that puts me off playing Eve was the above average monthly sub, its not the fact its a few dollars more its just the fact I think companies should keep to an industry standard.
This weekend is the last Closed beta. I know that between then and the game's launch next month they are going to have an Open Beta. I have heard that it will be a week long instead of just over the weekend like the closed betas have been. I'd keep your eyes open after this weekend for Open Beta info.
I just found this one:

Just coudn't find the english text, but the main point is, the longer you subscribe, the lesser you pay.
And I think that NCSoft handles the € and $ thing with 1:1, so if you subscribe for 12 months you pay 9,99 per month. Very great price in my eyes. (if they don't handle it 1:1 the prices for US will be 12 or 11 $, but not sure)
I try to find the english version of this text and when I find it, I will edit it in.
pain
When the war of the beasts brings about the worlds end,
the goddess descends from the sky, wings of light and dark spread afar.
Then you can look forward to GW2 which is currently in production
It won't be worth the money and you will be cursing yourself like the rest of us a few weeks after you buy a couple copies of it.
Source: AoC, Darkfail, WAR, LotRO
Im not saying it will be bad because I havent even played a beta weekend yet. This weekend will be my first test of the game. For never playing this game I sure am interested in it just as I was when WOW launched TBC expansion.

How much does it cost to preorder the game?
$5.00 from GameStop or EB Games.
