The new closed beta is scheduled for August 14 thru August 17. The offical Aion site says the focus will be Elyos & Asmodian levels 1-30. Suppose to start 3pm EST on the 14th.
Not that it matters, but why does everyone call it a beta when it clearly is more of a preview event? NCSoft isn't beta testing anything (meaning they are not developing content specifically for NA).

Yeah it's more referrenced to a "beta" for lack of terminology. You can name it all sorts of stuff like "NA tweaking" or "soft preview" etc, but since it is technically a "beta stage" being 1.0/2 with a final NA release version of 1.5.... it's called beta.
Consider the fact that they are finding bugs, finding translation errors, adding voices, sounds, cinematics and other things just for us and I'd call it a beta. You still have to test changes and small additions, and lots of people do it better than a few.
Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.

They are still tweaking things in game. Just because this particular "beta" is more polished than most already released MMORPGs doesn't mean they aren't testing and fixing the small things. Granted the majority of their testing atm is server stability and translation / voice overs, it's still part of the game that NO ONE want's to see left out or unfinished.
Ncsoft realizes what happens when companies release bug ridden games in this market and don't want that to happen to Aion. It's still a "beta" because we are testing things in game, giving feedback, and they are fixing things. Also, this client is not released yet, another reason it is a beta.

It's a strange beast but not one to worry about.
