Language Barrier?

RouninaunbisRouninaunbis Member UncommonPosts: 8

Good evening

My question is this I was wondering if there is a communication barrier between the two player controlled factions in-game. As seen in WoW between the Horde & Alliance or is there a "Free Talk"?

Thank you for your time and I apologize in advance if this question was previously posted in a earlier thread.

If you watch The Karate Kid backwards it's about this karate champ that just kinda slowly becomes a pussy and ends up moving back to Jersey

Yes there is a language barrier very similar to many other games.  The other faction's words come out as gibberish.

Language barriers cut down on the espionage, i also like not being able to roll toons of opposing factions on the same server for the same reason.

Currently can role both factions on same server in Aion, no idea if it will be like this at live

I need a new MMO world to call home as Tom Chilton keeps destroying them

No, it won't be.  It's like that just for beta.  Once the game goes live you will only be able to roll a character on 1 faction per server per account.

you can "chat" to other faction by using the shop advertise thing. :D tested and works in beta currently.. me and my friend were on teamspeak and decided to test it and went to look for rifts and try it out when we found each other.. worked.

That will probably get patched out at some point, but nice to know.

I personnaly don't like language barriers in faction-based MMOs.

First : I like to be able to yell at my ennemies or be diplomat if I am in a good mood ^^

Second : NPCs can always speak to the other faction, bu YOU, a powerful daeva, could not? That is stupid, imo.

I'd really love if there was no language barrier, but it seems there will be one, sadly  ='(

True but you can only say so much with a emote.

True but it's statistically proven and been said time and again by developers that such barriers drastically reduce the amount of griefing and CSR complaints that occur in PvP based games.  It may not be realistic but it does result in lower operating costs and generally a happier playerbase.

I see...Well Its good that the barrier helps prevent adolescent whining over what one said to another about their virtual persona in-game. The only thing that gets me is that these barriers need to be implemented in the first place thou I assume the human species is still to young to be left unsupervised,

Maybe one day I'll be able to yell at some one in game during a pvp match and the recipient wont take it as I am yelling directly at him rather then hes/her Avatar in-game.

Another potiential problem could be people trying to spam each other with text to distract them. This probably wouldn't be as big of an issue since we don't have chat above our heads, but it could be a reason.

Plus you can always post on the forums about stuff on a realm server.

I totally agree with this. If people were mature enough they wouldn't care when we insult their character. They would just make their character answer the same way we did.

As nice as that would be from a communication stand point, from a strategic one (this is a strategy oriented pvp game) it would be bad since like said above, the espionage level would go through the roof.

No, both factions speaking English to a good amount every time.

Oh, that's not what you meant...

I hope they implement a quest to learn the other's language just like they did with the Balaur/Mau/Kralls

Right now, the best way to talk to the oppossite faction is setting a personal shop :-)

I don't think they'll patch out personal shop communication.

If someone is going to make themself completely vulnerable then that should be the price of communication.

Spy what? I don't know anyone who speaks in /say or /yell to prepare a strategy... Personally, I use either group channel or voice communication (TS/Vent/Mumble...).
