Newbie Needing Advice

Greetings,
I am new to FF XI and currently have a trial toon on Ifrit. One of the things I noticed when I started up FF XI was how un-userfriendly it was. It took me a while to set up the windows and everything but now I feel like I am playing the game alone. I lack teh knowledge of the chat commands so I don't know how to say stuff and get responses when I need help. i am a huge final fantasy fan and want to try and enjoy this but so far I am having these issues. Can someone help please?

Checking the links on the stickies at the top of the forum will give some newbie help. Simple things like using chat menus is just like /p for party, /l for linkshell, /sh for shout, ect. You'd probably want to check the in game config and FFXI config outside of the game to set everything up the way you want it.
It's not that bad once you get the hang of it. If you decide to remake a character on my server Kujata, let me know and I can help you out.

A lot of peple on Ifrit are nice. That's my server for 7 years. If you've just started and are in bastok, sandoria, or windurst then that's why you feel alone also. Nowadays most people have a couple 75s so those towns aren't busy anymore. When you hit level 10-15 go to the "party" button and hit "seek for party". Do that while you kill stuff and someone may invite you to a party. Then they should have no problem helping you to where they are. The best thing to do in FFXI is make friends. When you make friends in this game your set. If you click on yourself also then highlight chat and push right you can "set" your chat in either say, shout, linkshell, and such. I would also suggest trying out in config the short keyboard setup. It's a very nice setup.
