I played WAR at launch and loved it for the most part. It had its fair share of bugs and whatnot, but it was a solid idea with a fun and well built-in PvP progression system, something that WoW will never, ever have.
I am thinking of coming back, but have become hesitant with news of imbalance/dying servers/boring endgame. Because of such news, there are a few questions I would love to have answered by you guys:
- Which server would be best to reroll on if I want a lot of people to group with straight from the get-go? I hate soloing in the beginning, especially in a game with those nifty PvE events (forgot what they're called... scenarios?)
- Are there any classes that are ridiculously imbalanced? It would suck if a game so based on PvP had a few godlike classes that everyone else feared...
- How is endgame? Is there good PvE AND PvP content, or do you have to choose one?
Thanks in advance! Any input is greatly appreciated.

I quit Warhammer while still have 3 weeks to play but I don't have motive to log in for weeks. The subscription ends at the end of this month.
I've considered coming back just to see how things are doing, but I'm going to wait to see what happens when Aion comes out.
Take it for what it's worth, but here's my POV (been playing since launch)
There aren't all that many choices left as far as servers go, but the best bet at the moment is Iron Rock. It is the most consistently high population server for both factions. You'll see a fair number of people from the get-go on IR.
Yes, a couple of classes are out-and-out better than the others. On the Order faction the poster child is the Bright Wizard, followed closely by the Warrior Priest. For Destruction, the only one that potentially qualifies as imbalanced is the Squig Herder. The larger problem is that in almost every instance, the Order versions of each class mirror are superior to the Destruction ones.
The endgame is present - which is better than I can say for most MMOs a year in - but it grows stale rather quickly. Unfortunately due to design, the only way that the PvP end game tends to progress is when one faction outnumbers the other. If the factions are relatively balanced the endgame tug of war is pretty much a stalemate. If one faction gets the upper hand numerically though, it tends to set up a downward spiral for the other side that only stops if the winning faction stops pushing their advantage long enough for the defeated side to recover.
End game PvE isn't tremendously varied, but it's there. 5 group sized instanced dungeons that you step through as you get the gear from each one. You're not locked into PvE or PvP, but depending on your class the gear from one stream or the other might be the set you prefer / need to obtain (i.e. most healers want the PvE sets for pure healing - though it's not always that cut-and-dried).
WAR is a game still facing some significant up-hill challenges. Mostly around class balance and overall population balance. The main worry about the game is that it won't sustain low server populations the way a more PvE focused game might. Not only do you need a good number of people on your side to play - you also need a good (and even) number on the other side to be your "content". If one side disappears the server usually goes down shortly thereafter. Hence why the game has consolidated so many servers since this time last year.
I played since Beta and my experiences are:
Since Patch 1.3 theres few imbalances. The only real (no-go) imbalance I saw was the AOE damage of Wizards/Sorceresses and thats gone. (If you check the forums you see people whining about every single class either being overpowered or beeing gimped.)
The game is not much fun if You play solo (as with all MMOS imho).
Until Level 40 the game is great fun if You like PvP and ok if You only like PvE.
The endgame is ok, but I really like playing my alts (I play since Beta and only got one single Level 40 Char, lots of alts), PvP in the lower stages is more fun than at Level 40.
Crafting is better than it was, but still stupid (try cultivating, its fun until you reach 200).
Personally I only see Champions Online as an alternative atm, dont know if I will play that for long. Aion sucks, WoW is too boring, EVE is too hardore (well if I see that trailer some more times Ill buy a gametimecard), what did i forget?
There is no right or wrong -
There is only fun and boring.
Age of Conan.
I just recently got back on warhammer thinking things would be better for whatever reason but there worse then ever. The game seem fun for the most part, especially considering I love PvP as much as I do, it just got old quickly, and even quicker this second time around. A couple days in and I'm already quiting. I don't know what it is. I hate to bring this up but WoW seems to be the only MMO the keeps going up in numbers and I don't even know why. Doesn't matter how much I might like a game, once the numbers start dropping, everything goes down hill. On a personal note... I'm waiting for FFXIV to release late 2010, hopefully they don't disappoint.
Complete and utter nonsense, do you have any idea how many Order players whine and bitch about squig herders, witch elves and marauders?
The side you roll is neither pre determined nor set in stone, “you pay your money and make your choice”; strange then, given the propensity for min/maxers and fotm mmo gamers that Destro being so outmatched, still has far greater player numbers, /sarcasm off.
Here in the UK, we have a fable that discusses the colour intensity of grass on either side of a fence; a great many mmo gamers suffer the same problem. The truth is, the sides are reasonably well balanced now, but there will always be those that whine the other side has all the tools and none of the faults. Show me a single game with opposing sides where this has not been the case.
My Colour Is Vomit green, I puke on the tards with stupid colour sigs. My symbol is ,,!, O ,!,, My enemies are any prat with a colour sig, a meaningless personality test, or a pointless list of games and classes.

Just because people on either side whine really doesn't mean that the sides are balanced.
Besides, didn't you only just come back after a long break? What do you know about balance? If you read around it's pretty well excepted Order has a class balance favor right now, even with the BW 'nerf' before which the balance was even worse.
Looking for suggestions?
Don't bother.
I was playing launch day...stayed with it for the first month. Quit, until the first big patch came out. Resubbed. Again, cancelled after 1 month. Rinse, repeat 4 times now. Just resubbed this last month, played for *3* days, before I cancelled and uninstalled, yet again. Played on Iron Rock. Spent hours dinking around in scenarios, watching people bounce between talking about Aion, and how broken WAR currently is. This is the only game, let alone MMO, that has gotten progressively worse the longer it is out, and the more it is patched. Performance is atrocious, even more so than at launch. Seriously, if the only thing that's got you interested in MMOs right now is this POS, then take a break. Go read a Warhammer book, and see exactly how badly Mythic face-raped this IP.
Katsma is Lithuanian for 'he who drinks used douche fluid'.
Don't.

Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
I've been playing WAR since beta and have been generally pretty happy with it still . I've been playing MMO's for a long long time - Obviously many people out there feel WAR is the worst game ever, and that's fine. The games they probably like are ones I would hate - to each his own. I was just reading a thread of "Will you trust Blizzard again after Wow" and laughed, because you can't please everyone - I know many people who are still in love with that game as well. The point is, you need to try the game out again for yourself. Everyone has different opinions on what makes a good game, everyone has a different tolerance to the problems in a game, and most of all, everyone has a different opinion on what is a problem. There are a lot of games on the market, be thankful of that and find the one that fits you the best.
