MMORPG.com Atlantica Online Correspondent Andrew Corpuz writes this look at the issue surrounding the double Monk issue in Atlantica Online and gives some possible solutions.
A mercenary has come into quite a bit of question in the recent months. Though the monk has always been a staple of PvP formations since the beginning, it was rare to see him twice in a formation. With low vitality and low offensive powers, a second monk seemed almost silly to those hoping to achieve top tier in Free League matches.
But as magic damage increased, causing AOE builds to become the dominant force, the importance of Holy Guard started to grow, like lava oozing out of a dormant volcano. The monk's Holy Guard ability to nullify magic skills became near essential for victory. Yet, still then, a second monk was rare.

Shocking, a game with massive pvp balancing issues that uses RPG mechanics.
Its hard enough to balance FPS's.... balancing RPG style mechanics /shudder.
Imagine the Rifts RPG as a MMO with PvP, some "classes" just wouldn't even exist because they'd get hit by a single point of megadamage and die instantly.
The problem with this article is that only a small portion of the playerbase, those that spend significant money in the item shop really pvp much. That is the same of all the f2p games.
So the result is for most Atlantica players from reading your articles is who cares? There is no balanced pvp to start with whether you fix the monk issues or not? So why bother writing the article?
Are there more parts to come in the future?
What I think is funny, is some of the loudest people complaining about dual monks, use dual spears. Somehow using two monks to defeat stun/musician (DOT)/ap drain builds is cheap, but using said uber build to begin with isn't?
(And also, gear doesn't make that much difference in Atlantica's PvP, since + doesn't count, only tier. With the exception of a few weapons, mostly the shotgun, cash shop users don't have much of an advantage. And really, that advantage is no different than that of gold buyers, which exist in all games).
R.I.P. City of Heroes and my 17 characters there
Original article is interesting, although hasn't discussed the most popular solution for Monks(ie making only one useable in Free Leage PvP).
Also, I think he has missed the major point in why most people have major problems with dual monk usage.
Simply stated, dual monks makes it boring. It makes it possible to use Holy guard to a degree that all other Skills become largely redundant, at which point PvP becomes a point and click affair, with very little strategy involved.
Contrary to comments in this thread, Free League PvP in Atlantica is far from cash shop dependant. In fact, there is very little(if any) real advantage to be taken from cash shop usage at all. All enchantments in this form of PvP have little to no effect, thus restricting Cash shop dominant PvP. The only advantage cash shop provides is the chance for newer playes to catch up to Top Tier PvP faster.
Note: as for the previous comment, Dual spears have certainly had problems with it, but to say that the majority of people complaining about it are spear users is at the least miss informed, but more likely completely ignorant. The fact of the matter, is that anyone without 2 monks will find it near impossible to win on any consistant basis, no matter what they use.
