Trunkoso, I agree with you on your thoughts. Which is why I will personally buy a usb keyboard, a dualshock 3 controller (I'm still using an old sixaxis controller, and the analog sticks are startings to break down now), and will pray to the heavens above that those September beta rumors are true.
Xbox 360. Because it WILL be on it regardless of how it appears now. Even if it's 6 months after launch.
Maybe. If I remember reading correctly before, FF XI was least played on the Xbox 360 (PC was number 1, and the PS2/PS3 both had decent amounts of people playing it).
Long story short, SE was pleased with how many people played FF XI on their PS2 (and PS3 once the addon mod came out), and the PC was a guarenteed success, but Xbox 360 was the weak link. This may have scared SE, and they acted accordingly by not making the Xbox 360 one of the launch consoles the game will be released to.
I'm not dismissing the idea, it does seem likely that eventually Xbox 360 will get the game (and if PC and PS3 people can actually play with each other on FF XIV like I hear in the rumors, it'll be interesting when Xbox 360 joins the fray). But not enough of you guys supported FF XI before, so I would expect the game a couple of months or even a year after the launch for the Xbox 360.
Is that right? Funny, seems like Sony was the one giving Square the fuck-around. Let's see: bundled FFXI with a hard drive that NO other games used ( even though Sony swore they were going to make it useful for lots of games in order to get people to buy one of the overpriced pieces of crap ). Then Sony makes the slim PS2, which totally removes the hard drive capability, which pretty much brought on Square discontinuing PS2 versions outside of the boxes already on sale at the time.
If the game plays better with a mouse and keyboard I will play it on the PC but if a controller is better I will play it on the console. Normally I would think that keyboard and mouse would alway be better for a MMOG but one of the games in beta now that is also planning on coming out on the 360 actually plays better with a controller.

Look, I'm not trying to start a fanboy war here, I'm just stating facts. Xbox 360 did poorly with FF XI, even more poorly than the PS2 (the PS2 sold well).
So, since Xbox 360 did poorly with FF XI, it isn't hard to brainstorm that SE was aware of this. So, not trusting the Xbox 360 since it didn't do so well, it ended up not being one of the launch consoles. Eventually, you may get the game. But, since the game didn't do so hot on the Xbox 360, it's obvious that SE is taking precautions with the console before it is released on it.

No fanboy war here. I loved the PS2 and still do. Never even bothered with any Xbox until I seen the lack of titles and the ridiculous price ( 360 has another price drop coming, PS3 is "doing just fine" says Sony ). I bought a PS3 ( used ) for my daughter and ended up selling it less than 2 months later because she'd rather play on the 360 or the Wii. Sony dropped the damn ball. Maybe if they make it to a PS4, they'll have their act together like they did with the PS1 and the PS2 and I can go back to what WAS my favorite console.Until then, I'll enjoy Final fantasy XIII ( yeah, that WAS a PS3 exclusive also lol ) and the next Metal Gear ( another PS3 exclusive go bye-bye ) and if nothing else, play FFXIV on the PC until the 360 version does come out.

Well, Sony has been doing nothing but catering to us the fans in my opinion. They have a solid 2010 lineup in the wakes. So, hate the PS3 and laugh at it all you want, but we're not going away anytime soon.
Also, no, I will not play it on the PC because like I stated earlier the amount of money it would cost me to upgrade my computer to play FF XIV would be enough money to buy another PS3.
Sigh...and people wonder why Sony fanboys and Xbots hate each other so much.
PC here only because of more customization. Even though the PS3 is slightly more powerful then my pc, by the time the game comes out it'll be fully upgraded.

Again, you're the one trying to make me out as some "fanboy" or "Xbot". What I stated is the truth. Sony dropped the ball and now they have to try to play catch up. Simple sales figures will tell you that much. The PS3 should have been king of the hill. Instead, it's the Kings cousin twice removed. The PS3 does have a limited selection when it comes to "exclusive" titles. And how many of those games in that "solid lineup" won't be available on PC or 360? Doing nothing but catering to you? lol I guess getting DLC for Fallout 3 almost a year after the game came out is an example of that catering? Anyway, you stick to your opinion that I'm just an "Xbot" and pretend Sony hasn't screwed the pooch big time. No skin off my nose.

PS3 will have a strong year next year. Demons soul is going to be a bad @ss RPG exclusive (2009 release). not to mention GoW III. MAG if they can pull it off will damn near be an FPS MMO. In general yes sony dropped the ball big time, that fact that M$ shoveled out a 360 with a crazy failure rate and still is a success is testament to sonys f-up. I am personally not a fan of M$ in general. They nickle and dime you in every division they have. They charge you for online play tho the cost is not a problem the fact that they charge you is, there the ones who turned DLC into what it is now. Game devs leave stuff out of their games on purpose so they can charge you later for it. I own both I think the PS3 is the better system but atm its lacking in the game department and ultimately thats why a person buys a game console. Far as I am concerned they (ps3/360) could leave all the other useless crap out of a game console I have a PC for that other stuff.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore) Now Playing: N/A Worst MMO: FFXIV Favorite MMO: FFXI
All right, let's get back on to the subject again.
Now, I have a new question to ask, this time aimed towards those who said they would play FF XIV on the PS3. Will you be playing FF XIV with a Dualshock 3 controlller? Or will you use one of those usb mouses? Also, what will you use for a keyboard? That keyboard addon to the controller, a usb keyboard, none of those?

Honestly the reason I want to play on PS3 is for the oppossite experience as the PC. I want to kick back in a recliner and use my console remote. I know i'll need a keyboard though so I will use the keyboard attachment. I am use to typing on a blackberry so it should be pretty easy to use.
When I played on my PS2 I used the PS2 USB Netplay Controller. I loved it! If the PS3 has something similar to it and it is wireless it will be hard for me to strictly play one or the other. In either case I found this keyboard/controler setup to be very nice and it worked fairly well. Especially when I was NM hunting!
Quick FYIs as so many PC only players are so blind or misinformed about consoles.
1. Both Everquest Online Adventures/Frontiers and FFXI allowed you to use a keyboard on the PS2. (someone replied wireless keyboard and a big screen tv is the way to go for PC). I used a wireless keyboard for typing and creating macros in FFXI but preferred the Dual Shock controller for movement and actually executing the macros. I played a Black Mage in FFXI and anyone knows that I had to be able to change gear and weapons during a fight to get the most out of my spells and execution/timing of Magic Burst or skill chaining when using other jobs. There was no advantage in this aspect that anyone with a PC had over me, in fact I think I had the advantage. PS3 can suport games with mouse and keyboards if the game makers design them that way (Resistance 2, EQoA, FFXI, Unreal Tournament, etc)
2. Playstation 3 can play games and obviously movies in Full HD, TrueHD, 1080P or whatever you want to call it. It is up to the developers to decide if they want to push it to that level. Graphics for MMO's in general are not that great (it's really the story and the gameplay that keep most people addicted). But if you want to have to mess with registry keys or hacks to try to improve your graphics to where the average person would say, "it looks the same to me", go ahead. I hope Square Enix will just make it 720P or 1080P on the PS3, that will be good enough for me.
3. Playstation 3 can produce 7.1 Channel surround sound. (an earlier reply stated this was an advantage PC had) Some games with 7.1 Sound include Warhawk, Oblivion, Heavenly Sword, Motostorm and Uncharted. I included all of these order games to point out that the capability has been there since day 1.
4. I don't want to use mods or game enhancers that weren't made for the game so that argument doesn't work for me. I do however like to occasionally look at a quest guide or wiki ... and you know what? I have a laptop I can use for that if I want to do it while I'm gaming. It would be nice if I can go to the internet while in game on the PS3 -- it's not a feature now but I'm sure it will be as I can currently check my friends list and other things while in-game on the PS3.
I have a very capable PC and even my laptop is future proof for at least another year (by the time FFXIV drops) that I have the choice to play on PC or PS3. I also have the ability to buy/upgrade my PC if I should need to. That being said, I'll be choosing PS3 because of the innovative controller set up, the convenience and comfort to play it on my sofa or even take it with me when out of town.
There truly is no real advantage in my opinion in playin on a PC --- we all can use the best surround sounds, the best HDTV's or Monitors and Keyboard and Mouse Support. Aside from the illegal hacks and add-ons, I don't see why one would argue PC > Consoles for RPGs.
wireless keyboard and mouse on a pc connected to a giant HD tv - - - that's the way to go
Yeah this is what I've got going on. Don't forget the recliner!
The only problem I run into is that I often have trouble reading all the tiny text. In most MMO's the chat font can be resized, but then whenever I go to a menu screen or pull up a quest, it's back to squinting again (unless I want to run a lower resolution).

I aggree , Ill be playing on PS3 for the same reasons.
I played FF11 on PS2 and then PC later on (which is a possibility WAY down the road) but I enjoyed PS2 more, the console/keyboard setup was easy to use and comfortable in the living room. The PS3 will be in my game room next to my friends and we will play together. I like the console mmorpg, and im looking forward to FF14.

After all the put downs and abuse I've seen the PS3 take from PC voters lately, I figured eventually there would be a backlash. But not without good cause. I believe the PS3 has great potential. It is rapidly becoming a powerful multimedia (but mostly gaming) system, and to say that the PC has the advantage is a bit of exaggeration. Both has great potential and suit people's different needs, both shall provide a different experience, and both are equally great.
P.S. I've bought my USB keyboard (decided on that instead of that keyboard addon for the Dualshock 3 controller, those buttons were way too small). I will eventually buy a new dualshock 3 controller. However, now for my surround sound...
I need a good surround sound setup for my PS3, but it has to be under $300. Could someone help me out on this?
PC first and then PS3 second. Will most likely have 2 accounts, 1 to play and other for a mule bazaar to sell my crafting items while I play on the other. I just hope they have the bazaar option like in ffxi.

Wow. That looks quite difficult to use. I'd prefer a usb keyboard...

So many posts with good ideas, this thread is a success!
I now have a new question for everyone to wonder about.
Now, Zorvan brought up an interesting proposal about whether or not the Xbox 360 would eventually get FF XIV. Then, something hit me out of randomness. What if, against all odds, FF XIV ended up on the Wii? What are your thoughts?

Just picked myself up a Steelseries WoW mouse (15 keys!), G19 keyboard, G35 Headset and I was thinking about picking up this keypad a little later.

I'll most likely play it on my PS3. Just got a Samsung 55" LCD LED TV. It will look great on it.
definitely PC - which is currently hooked up to my 65" HD DLP tv
will be building a new set up after windows 7 comes out so should be pretty much ready by the time this game comes out

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
Now Playing: N/A
Worst MMO: FFXIV
Favorite MMO: FFXI
PC for sure.
Though, who knows... if I have a PS3 by then, maybe the PS3.
Most likely PC though

I am use to typing on a blackberry so it should be pretty easy to use.
wireless keyboard and mouse on a pc connected to a giant HD tv - - - that's the way to go
When I played on my PS2 I used the PS2 USB Netplay Controller.

I'll get it for the PS3, 360, and PC.
