Indeed, the servers are in fact a great upgrade only one of many to come. Can't wait for new information on Blacksmith and Chef to be released If I can I'll solely play that disicple as well as the gatherer disciple to support my crafting.
When changing your weapon, you are basically changing jobs and you can do this in almost all locations and all times. Getting invited to a group which has too many of your current class? No problem, switch to the necessary job they lack numbers in. After the adventure is over, switch back to your previous class, gardener for instance.
It says this on you site, Hows that gona work if you dont have the skill to cast or have bought certain spells
Hey can anyone switch to a healer class? Does any one have there skills up? NO damn ok ill look for a healer
Now im not sure how the game play is gona turn out b ut i forsee this as a problem
Indeed, I'm curious how it will work out with the weapons and races though. If they put restrictions on certain weapons for certain races and the like. Hopefully FFXIV will have a lot of freedom instead of a lot of regulations and limits.

I think the idea is that you take the time to use the equipment and weapons along the way, at least for the builds you are interested in and then you can be ready for a group's demand, if that is what the group needs that is. This is just my guess. It would be ridiculous for anyone to go into a group and pull out whatever equipment/weapon without having worked on those items and expect to be functional. I believe if you look further into the thread or listen to the interview they hint at this.
I hope I made myself understandable there. Without more information we can only speculate. We will have to see if Gamescom enlightens us a bit more.

Hmmm now heres something to speculate about. In ever mmo so far crafting has been a side event that you have to STOP playing buy/farm the items lvl the craft and then Profit. But in FFXIV they put it as a main job now i doubt you'll be able to quest or lvl with such a class
But what if they came up with an all new system to get rid of the grind of crafting
I think i might be hopeing a little to much. But i like this speculation
In Lineage 2 there's the warsmith and scavanger. The warsmith make most weapons and armor in the whole game and they can go with you anywhere, just not that good additions to a group. The scavenger uses a certain spell to "spoil" monsters, so they drop certain things they wouldnt otherwise. Plus it also increases the drop rate of other things. So having both those classes in a clan/guild/linkshell or whatever its called in all games really helped.. however...
They werent that wanted after you get what you came for, since there's other classes more focused on doing damage, healing, tanking etc. So you need to solve that problem as well. For instance, without the spell spoil, certain material for weapons wouldnt be obtainable.. same for armor's etc. Same goes for the Warsmith, without that class, people would use really underwhelming weapons etc.
Lineage 2 huh my roomate played that game for about month then gave it up. He said the game play was great, best graphic ever, but there was no players the few players that did play it were really nice and help new players out alot but there it was nothing compaired to the FFXI comunity
I played Lineage 2 from beta to Chronicles 2. After that it went downwards. Sadly the starting areas in L2 are filled with no real players and mainly bots. However, when the game was new and several months into it -- the community and the game itself was flourishing. There's several things that made that game deserted, some being the fact that NCsoft never put in enough resources to combat the rampant cheating and botting.
So I see what your friend is saying, he probably started way too late. Also, L2 is very unforgiving and leveling up takes time. So starting it out years into the game requires time, dedication and friends.
As for FFXIV, it will cater to a whole different audiance than what FFXI does -- it will be much more "casual".
Well cheers to L2 it was a good game i saw some event a youtube where they killed the end boss
It had high elf with short skirt and night elf in leather a true pvp sistem and a great start. To bad that NCsoft never kept up with it.
I loved the idea of the pvp sistem they had. You can kill anyone ever on your own side but kill to many ppl and anyone can kill you with out having to worry zyuu83 can explain it better then i can i only played it for 1 day on my roomates account

Lineage 2's pvp system is the best pvp system ever invented. The game itself was a bit too hard on people that were unable to invest 10 hours a day into it though. The "end boss" you speak of is probably the Earth Dragon Antharas. It's just one of many dragons you can face these days in L2's world. He's fairly tough though.
I might go into specifics later.
By the way, we still are accepting more entries to our big Final Fantasy contest. Many great prizes to win.
Well i can see myself playing as a Gladiator at first, though if duel wielding is in im gonna go with sword in one hand and staff in the other.
Gona try for a gandalf style huh... Omg can they do that since the jobs are weapon based and if you could duelwield 2 jobs lols I joke I joke that would be way over powered
Yes sir they are! They've been re-named to Lalafell. If you want more information about the game, I'd recommend visiting FFXIV Core (link is in my signature)

The classes will be simplier in FFXIV for the starting classes, but when you get to the higher levels, I think they just might be very hard to master.
