I was wondering what kind of bonuses a wand might bring to a fight. I haven't used one yet because I carry a 2h staff. But for anyone who does, I would like to know some info on them. Don't reply back saying "it's your preference" because no $hit that's everything in life. Just lemme know if they're worth using, why, why not? yada yada yada. I want it 5 pages, double spaced, header and footer.....image thnx guys.

    Well it gives certain advantages.

For instance, if you're holding a melee weapon in 1 hand and a wand that sends out a projectile as a 2nd weapon.  Strategically you're supose to fire your wand at a far away creature, then by the time the creature reaches melee, you attack with your melee weapon.  That way it will have already lost enough health so that you have an easier time beating it up with your melee while at the same time you are getting hit.  Heck it's like playing a Hunter.  Attack with bow, when the creature is close range, switch to your melee weapon.

Also your wand has different damage types.  Mine has fire.  And as a priest I use one-handed maces.  If I ever notice that I'm not dealing much damage with my mace, I'll use my Fire wand instead.  Or if you ever encounter a creature that's weak against fire, I'll always use my wand.

I even have a spare Shadow damage wand in my inventory I keep as backup in case I ever come across a creature that is weak against shadow.

Systran, Let me give you a heads up on something. You can still use your wand even though you have a two handed weapon :) The wand goes into your Ranged Slot which doesn't take into account what weapon you're holding in your two hands.

I'd go for the wand and the 2h staff to be honest...
It's not like there's any loss not using it, and being a mage and all you can't use any other range so..
It's not really about preference, it's more like... Duuuh

Why aren't you posting on the official WoW forum btw..?

Rest your trigger on my finger.

Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW...
    It all sucked.

You can equip both, however staffs really only serve one purpose and thats for the stat bonuses.  I was carrying a +11 intellect, +15 spirit staff but never used it. Frankly I dont let a mob get that close unless my voidwalker loses aggro. I have a wand equipped also (can have both equipped) that is my primary weapon of choice, especially when mana is too low to fire off shadowbolts.

By the way, there is a nice staff for sale in Booty Bay but hard to get. It has +6 resists to all forms of magic but i think its only available once per day if that even. It took me 20+ visits before I found it there (knew about it from a guildmate)

They can have stats on them. My wand is like +4 Intellect and +3 Agility I believe. It's like level 46 required or something. Friend gave it to me who found it in Zul'Farrack I believe. She has a slightly better one than mine too. :(

That is also another benefit of having a wand.  Technically, you can get stat bonuses from a weapon/staff, an offhand weapon/shield/orb or symbol, as well as your wand.  I currently have a wand on my warlock that does as much damage as one of my stronger DoT spells per second.  I can use the wand and it's like having another DoT spell that doesn't cost me any mana.  Not to mention I hit like a girl with my little sword.
