XIV is about the only next-gen MMORPG or MMORPG on the market at this point in time that has got my interest. Everything else seems pretty standard and just does not garner my interest.
It's brilliant graphics style/art style, innovative gameplay mechanics and the excellent quality and caliber of the Final Fantasy series, makes this title really stand out to me amongst all the other MMORPG's that just don't do it for me.
Here's to hoping that XIV will set a new standard for MMORPGs and a landmark in the Final Fantasy series.

The results of this poll would be more interesting if you posted it in the pub. Most people checking the FFXIV forum are interested in the game >.>
First option for me. I had pretty much given up on MMOs years ago but this is the one that kept me still checking the news. That new Star Wars, Aion, WoW Expansions, Blizzard's next MMO, it's all the same boring game with different skins. Bioware isn't even TRYING to downplay the fact that they're basically looking at everything WoW and trying to "Bioware"-it to make profit. Since I'm no Star Wars geek, I can see what's really going on with that game and won't even touch it.
Unfortunately, I had to pick the bubbles option because I'm looking forward to FFXIV and will definitely play it, but it's not the only game I have my eye on. The new HeroEngine that Simutronics developed will change the way we play MMORPG's and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it in action.
Im pretty sure that FFXIV was using Crystal Tools engine not the HeroEngine. I might have read that wrong.
graphic material below!
Please no one get me wrong I love a good FF game. But when the best "Light amidst the Darkness" is going to be Final Fantasy XIV I have to ask myself what direction the MMO community is going towards.
thats just my personal opinion. Thanks for watching, i'll keep your stick on the ice!
Well I picked the first option, but honestly i'm also very much looking forward to World of Darkness... which is like a Darkness amidst the Darkness...

You're correct. What I was trying to say is FFXIV isn't the only game I'm looking forward to... the games using the new HeroEngine being the others (SWTOR and Hero's Journey primarily).

Im sorry, I thought I might have read that wrong. But to your subject, I too am very curious on how Bioware utilized the HeroEngine. After watching some of the video's Simutronics website (back when SWTOR was first announced) I was curious as to how that would look like and the way it worked. It left me with questions on how Bioware made it all work. Then after watching the Bioware vids it has got me completely intrigued. I might have to play 2 MMO's while one I devote most my time to.
When FFXI first came out, I desperately wanted to like it. I am a fan of the FF series, and titles like FF7, FF3, and FF Tactics are timeless classics to me. I gave FFXI a fair shot and enjoyed it for nearly a year, but at the end of it I just felt like the game was too sterile.
I have extremely high hopes for FFXIV. I think SE is really trying to make a revolutionary title, and even if they miss the mark by being too progressive, I think the unique experience and gameplay will endear the game to many players. The familiar FF universe (mogs, chocobos etc.) will pull at our heart strings with familiarity, and with everything learned from FFXI, I don't see how SE could possibly not hit a home run with gameplay.
I intend to keep myself distracted with Aion until this masterpiece is finished.
I selected the first option even though I'm exctied (or would be excited if I heard more) about Guild Wars 2. I will be playing FFXIV without a doubt as I was a big FFXI fan... and think it looks, and sounds, amazing thus far.
I wonder if NC Soft losing Jeff Strain and David Reid will affect Guild Wars 2 schedule. Any idea?
Edit: Oops nevermind. Guess not: Link
Yeah, I have to agree that FFXIV has really grabbed my attention as well. I am extremely excited knowing that I can go casual if I wanted to (although FFXI also had casual, I think it was more hardcore than casual, but I loved it nonetheless lol) and hardcore one day if I could. With FFXI I was able play a lot, but now those days are gone so I can't really play FFXI that much anymore. So far everything looks great. With this new game, I can balance it and have a lot of fun!
