MMORPG.com Aion Correspondent Brandon Styles writes this account of his initial steps into the world of Aion during its most recent beta iteration.
Today I'll be discussing the closed beta test five of NCSoft's upcoming MMO Aion and my initial experience with the game. Now personally I have been looking forward to the release of Aion for a while. When I heard that if you pre-order or pre-purchase the game from either retailers or directly from NCSoft that you could gain access to the beta events, I thought I would take a shot. So I ordered a copy directly through the Aion website and received my beta key within a few minutes. It was pretty quick and painless to download the game client and have it install the game and setup my master account. I checked the website to see what the focus of this beta test was going to be. I was happy to see that it was to be the starting levels from 1-30 and the main character races, Elyos and Asmodians. This was also going to be the first beta with the first of the English voices.

Good info, thank you for the post.
Momo sucks, I have proof.
i know ill be keeping up with this thax
Good article. If you appreciate articles which tell you nothing other then 'I ran a couple of fetch quests, and didn't have much time to play the game'....Sheesh.
I must agree with him. The article was meaningless and you know the same as when you started reading. No interesting points exept the errands. xD
quests are good xp and $. worth doing.
by the look of the screenshot it looks alittle like cox in a way, but yes the article is vauge
y'know, i'm really looking forward to this game, but i have to say, i've been seriously disappointed with the interviews and gameplay articals that have been coming out lately. Seriously, with the release date coming up in just over a month, i would expect to read some really good interviews, maybe a sneak peek or two of something never before seen, i don't know. It seems like they're having youtube do all their marketing.
I entered this last closed beta event as well. Yes there was some lag and rubberbanding issues. However, after reading the forums it appears that they were not using the updated version and at release we will should see alot of those issues taken care of.
I only got to play up to lv24 and didn't get to experience the pvp system, as I had some other friend's join the closed beta right near the end so I wound up helping them get acclimated. The starting zone is pretty much for getting you into the questing system and figuring out how to use your spells. You acquire new spells from buying books from your trainer or earning them by doing quests.
On your quest interface you have three tabs....one seems to be class related, one is for general quests and the last one I can't remember, possibly crafting related? In the quest interface you also have linking to the map so you know where to go for items and npc's, SUPER helpful!!
The skills have chain effects which you can set up macro sets to set a whole string of skills into motion. I found it very interesting and feel that players will like the skills system they have set up.
At lv 10 you ascend and become a Daeva. You earn wings which you can use to fly in some areas. Some areas don't allow flying though you are allowed to GLIDE just about anywhere. Extremely helpful when trying to get around easier and I hear comes in very handy in the pvp system.
I didn't get to experience the crafting aspect as you don't worry about that too much at first. I did take a look at the crafting area in the main city and it looks to be very interesting indeed!
The world is huge and very well done. The art is breathtaking. Whoever the art director is they knew their business!
I'm sure there's lots of the experience I left out cause this post is already a mile long...sorry bout that
Been gaming for over 15 years and this gets thumbs up from me and several other friends who tried it out. We can hardly wait to start our first characters in the actual release client!
Come to Open Beta, it should be announced soon!
One intersting note...the entire time I was in the beta event, I NEVER saw any mention of WoW in the chat channels.....Hmmm....I found that fact very refreshing and interesting.
