Heya,

Being a long and old EVE veteran that fought countless wars and seen enough Titans DD that I still have horror flashbacks at night, it’s actually time for me to move on and try other games, so here I am. DarkFall seems to receive a lot of hype and hate so im a bit torn up but from what I’ve been reading, you can build your house, swords and pretty much anything you want.

Myself and perhaps a few of my old clan mates will be joining and we were wondering. Is this game grind fantastic or it aint that bad, you don’t have to play this game like a job? Should we quickly join a guild or this game is good enough with a small band of friends or pirates ?

If someone could give me a few tips, pointers, that would be appreciated.

Its a great game if you like to PVP and craft, and macro. You will want to either make a small clan yourself so you can focus on PVP,but befor you will want to grind grind grind, its a never ending grind, with all the abilities you get and all the weapon skills and armour skills, and magic skills, and then theres archery. it all takes a long time but I am told thats its gotten easier since the AV expansion/update.

The game is all about grind honestly. Many get by this by afk macroing or going afk at a blood wall. You can either grind or go this route. As far as a small group of friends, you may be alright to be honest. Just depends on where you go I guess. The fun of DFO is really centered around the PvP and the PvP really is centered around clan vs. clan and Alliance vs. Alliance so you and your friends may want to join a larger clan/alliance.

You can't build your house either. You find a deed and it is what is is for the most part. You can get a door for it though, I think at least. Yes armor and weapons you can craft, food and potions ammo and that sort of thing but you won't find any fluff items. Bare Bones type of thing in DFO.

As far as tips go, if your truly interested in it give it a shot and ignore what we here have to say and what those on the DFO forums have to say. Fans and Haters alike need to be ignored if you want to give the game a shot. Haters will turn you off of the game and fans will get you all hyped up for something that doesn't exist making it so you never stood a chance of liking or staying.

If you're truly interested, sign up and give it a shot then come holler at us in a week to a months time.

    Great!

Thanks for the good replies. I'll check that out in a few days. If I decide to join a good guild, any recommendation on the North American servers?

The Varangian Guard is structured, organized, and has good players. I'm still on the EU VG clan and waiting for transfers to play with them on NA.

"This game is all about grind" - actually no it is not, you might be all about grind as you feel the need to be the best player in the game but most of us that enjoy the game just play it and do not grind.

Most players, even fans of the game agree that the grind is pretty intense otherwise you wouldn't find so many people at the bloodwall macroing up their skills.

Sorry, I didn't state that as an opinion. DFO is a very grind heavy game, that is fact. People just playing it are not making any attempt to be competetive in a game that has pretty much only focused on PvP and competetive play. Which is fine, but those people tend to burn out on the game faster than most because DFO has little to offer other than PvP. To grind or not to grind? The answer is very simple, if you wish to compete with others then you better start grinding otherwise you might as well hand your items to whom ever passes by.

The Varangian Guard are part of the largest zerg in the game.   If that's what you want, follow this link forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php to a thread on the official forums that will further link you to the political map on NA currently and you can ask around about the guilds in the Zerg alliances.

If you are more interested in quality vs quantity, with mature gamers that don't find trash talking fun, send me a PM on the official boards "ChinaCat"; and always glad to help a new player out either way.

    Cheers -CC

ChinaCat have you seen how VG handles things? How structured their clan is and how organized they are? We are being selective both on NA and EU as some members are being cut every 2 weeks for reasons like not contributing to the clan etc etc. Also we are bringing 20 seasoned players from EU which will make us even stronger. Please don't try to downgrade a clan that you were never part of that you don't understand. Everyone underestimates us these days but it will only become an advantage for us.

My apologies for any misunderstanding.   The only reference to VG I made directly was that it is part of one of the largest zergs on the server.    The comment about finding a mature non-trash talking guild was not meant to insinuate VG wasn't  of that type.   I have fought you guys in AoC and experienced you on EU and you seem like a great group.     You are, however, part of the largest Zerg on the NA server and that's great for any one that wants that.    Some don't.

I'll be on my own for now. Most of my 10 year old clan are joining in this week to try it out. Which brings us to 15 starting members. I guess for now, we will create our own guild in-game and try to make some friends as quickly as possible.

I'm starting this beast tonight, so let's hope all goes well and that the game works well for me :P

For some reason I like zergs (I'm not a part of any zerg right now because the EU VG division is not the same as NA server for now. Larger alliances = larger conflicts = more people participating = epic fun. In my opinion it makes the game mor exciting, did you see what happened after the downfall of Hyperion and then CoTC? The game started dying because so many people hated the fact that they lost everything they worked for during those months. Zergs give people a reason to play, for example, it gives goals for people who want to bring the zergs down.

Good to hear, just be sure to come back when the first free month is over and let us know how you still llike it when it's time to pay your next $16+/mo fee depending on the current Eu conversion.

Funny how no one ever does that, guess we are just not "hardcore" enough for them after a month in DnF.

Well, I've just finished my first month of Darkfall, and couldn't get my card quick enough to sign back up and get in. Personally I'm really enjoying it, but I am part of a very active clan, it's pretty big and we do a lot of raiding, village taking, sieging etc. On top of this I found my first large villa deed, and sold it for about 85k too, and have lots of money to do the stuff I want. We have our own hamlet now too, and I've taken part in more than a few sieges since beginning, so it's been pretty lairy. But, it's not for everyone. I'm just waiting for someone to flame my post now haha.

What's to flame? You are enjoying the game, so more power to you. Nothing wrong with that. However, this does not mean that all people share the same experience you had. That's all.

Good point ;) It's hard not to be biased when you're enjoying something though, and I can understand that frustrates people. But at least it let's people get their own perspective on whether or not they want to try something.
