Sounds like interesting news about the changes in old-azeroth..... but in the other hand, there are things that breaks the lore (beyond the cataclysm itself)
Tauren paladin...... WTF Tauren priest...... sounds very strange Orc mage......???? did the BE teach magic to the orcs? are they enough smart?..... well, if there can be warlocks..... na, this is a stupid change trying to regain players from other games Gnome priest..... they don't believe in any religion, just in technology, but i expect this from blizzard, they want that every race could be healer Dwarf shaman.... ridiculous Dwarf mage.... hardly believable, but it could be possible
Human hunter.... truly necessary, it was demanded from long time ago, and it fits with the lore Undead hunter.... the same as the human hunter, Lordaeron should have had hunters
Good revamp for Azshara and many zones, well thought about flooding the thousand needles (and the salt lake i suppose)
Gnomereggan..... so many years to recover your city ? even your king could have solo-ed it. At least, it's a good change
I want to point out that dwarves could be mages at open beta, then later they removed that option.
Gotta love how many self-proclaimed "Lore experts" speak up without any real knowledge about the game.
I'm not going to bother restating what several have said as well, but the TL:DR version is
None of this breaks lore.
That's right. None of it. Not the Cataclysm, not the Tauran Paladins, not the Gnome Priests. Not a single bit.
Goblins always favored the horde over the alliance, and the worgens we might play as are from Gilneas, which has been walled off from the rest of the world, and unaffected by the ones outside of said wall.
And how long have we been fighting the Naga? Its about time them and their queen take action, we've been screwin up a lot of their things, so why wouldn't they get sick of us?
Too many poeple banging on about lore, Wow is not set in the passed, its happening now.. its evolving, its not LOTRO where the story has already been told, things will and can change in warcraft.
The cataclysm will tear azeroth apart and change the lives of its people, so yes Nelfs might pickup arcane again etc.. big whoop.
Bottom line the Story of warcraft has not yet been written and lamenated its happening now and some exciting things are about happen.
Nobody ever does a good job guessing what's reality with Blizzard. It's not that far-fetched to make Wow better by some cataclysmic event. That's what Everquest did when they introduced Everquest 2. The land went through some massive change, to fit with the lore of Everquest 2 and change that world as we knew it. I don't think they are going to clear all of the leveling up dungeons as well as the quest lines that they have in old Azeroth. That's stepping backwards and could cause some problems for those that want to level a new character up. This is just not going to happen.
A new gnomeregan would be cool as long as they keep the old one the way it is.
I think that they will release more land, probably where the maelstrom is. New land is better than messing with the old land. They can introduce new phasing with new land and further enhance the story like they always have. If it isn't broke don't fix it.
Troll Druids would be cool. Druids need to have more races other than the oversized Tauren and Night elves. I would like the Blood elves to some how tap into their old ways.
I'll bet money that this next expansion will have some kind of sea combat going on. I don't think we'll have it right with races and Blizzard will probably only tell us about one if they do.
All in all this expansion sounds great ! Im not playing WOW anymore but Blizzard is in my opinion doing right in changing the old world to support faster lvling and improving old content. Now... Let me make it clear that I expect EVERYTHING in the old world to be revalued.
I still expect that alot of new content will be added. And if only 5 lvls will be added - I surely hope that focus on class balance will be taken really seriously.
Will I play it ? Lets see what my holy pala is offered in terms of group healing. I quit during Sunwell and Blizzard did not solve the problems with my spec to get me back playing.
I agree with a bit said here and agree with one person about the druids.
I'd love to see more than just night elves on the alliance side able to be druids when more than one race on the horde side will possibly be.
As far as gnome priests..hmm...I am all about gnomes and they are my favorite race but not sure of them being priests but it would be nice to have some sort of form of gnome healer, even if some mechanical/engineering sense.
Goblins I believe fit the alliance side more, Warcraft lore aside on the issue. But then I'm not honestly sure just how long the two factions could last with Blizzard bringing in new threats and such. Worgen seem..well...horde-ish. lol
What I mean is that maybe its time for the alliance and horde to join forces against the new threats and all.
Please, don't throw things at me for saying that. lol It was just an idea, nothing more. lol
The changes to Azeroth are actually needed to breathe some life into the old/pre WoLK world perhaps. But handled and done so it makes sense.
As far as a new class like the DK's I also remember reading something about a possible Arch-Druid class that could find its way into a future patch or expansion, don't know.
Until things actually happen I guess all we can do is speculate about anything.
Just remember, there's no such thing as the perfect game that pleases everyone. That includes MMORPG's.
It's called a cataclysm for a reason, that means everything you freaking knew is gonna change, so lore has no effect on this at all.
They cataclysm will change everything as you knew it, so yeah new race/combo's would fit perfectly with this new change in lore.
Stop clinging to the past lore, Warcraft's lore was never set in stone, its not a finished story and it won't be finished until Blizzard decides to stop making Warcraft game's.
Oh God do i hate people that cling to old lore and never want anything to change. Suck it up or leave, lore is gonna change, the Warcraft story is ongoing, Hero's and Villains are gonna die and things are gonna constantly change.
"The great thing about human language is that it prevents us from sticking to the matter at hand." - Lewis Thomas
If think again about it.... World of Warcraft really needed a drastic change, it was becoming world of carebears. I'm not very friendly with the new classes for each race (despite i want new totems for dwarf shamans, really cool ones)....
In my opinion, there is unnecessary changes like
- Orc mages
- Undead hunters (i would prefer undead paladins, it has much more sense)
- Night elf mages (instead of that, blizzard could have created the High Elves as playable race, they are few but they seem to be more than the gnomes or the horde trolls)
- Gnome priests (it's not about you want to learn holy magic, it's about if the holy magic blesses you)
- Tauren priest, i think it simply doesn't fit about the barbarian way of respect a god, it's more logical that shamans are the "tauren priests"
Old gods seem to be a very resourceful way of revamping the lore, they can't die, they can change Azeroth as many times they want..... We still need to see Neptulon, the ancient god of seas.
PS I expect that once they have created dwarf shamans, tauren paladins, human hunters, troll druids and (i hope) undead paladins, they would difference again the classes between them. I don't want to see the same spell for mages, warlocks, shamans, or priest, druids, paladins.....

If true, what happens to the people who don't own the expansion? How would there be an old Orgimmar and new one? That is horrible lore. I doubt this is true.
Wow, barely a day has gone by and already this troll has almost 8 pages of responses. It never ceases to amaze me how much people will accept without asking for a hint of proof. And while I'm here I would like to offer my two cents on the observations of the lore scholars in this thread, who's statements are fairly well-represented here:
I think the new class/race-combinations seem rather good actually, and despite what many say, even if they are real, they don't really have to break any lore for this to work * Human Hunter - Humans can hunt, why shouldn't they?
* Orc Mage - Orcs have been using magic before, and it were the orcs that created and trained ogre magi, so obviously the arcane must have been known by at least some orcs, why not some more?
* Night Elf Mage - They used to use magic, but stopped, due to fear that they would lead the burning legion to azeroth again. Now that the burning legion is all over the place, why wouldn't they use the ancient magic for the advantage?
* Dwarf Mage - Dwarf have been using magics of different kinds, and having lived with the gnomes for some time now, they could have been taught in the arcane by them
* Blood Elf Warrior - they can fight..
* Dwarf Shaman - unexpected, but as some earlier has said; they used to be earthmen, so maybe some of them still comunicates with the earth-spirits, and then curiosity has taken over at led them to talk to the other elemental spirits.
* Undead Hunter - There are many implications ingame, that the undead (the forsaken ateast) can remember their living lives. Human hunter dies, becomes reanimated and is an undead hunter. not too far fetched
* Tauren Priest - tauren praises the Earth Mother, and have different ways to show that. Shamans speak with the spirits of the Earth Mother, and Druids tries to live in complete harmony with the world; why should it be implausable that some Tauren see the Earth Mother as a goddess? And then there would naturally be some priests of her as well. * Tauren Paladin - The Paladin are religious warriors, who fight for the right and just cause, and as such they can tap into the holy and just light and manipulate it, the lore even says that hte light follows any person, as long as he believe his cause is just. And with some tauren seeing the Earth mother as a Goddess, it is likely that ther would be some of her followers, that would take up weapons, in an "fanatical" attempt to protect her.
* Gnome Priest - Why is everyone so bugged by this? Gnomes may not be religious, but they are infamous for their inquisitiveness, and they are intelligent. Their sole reason to be able to do magic so well is in there "can I?"-way of thinking, they begin to learn it, more for the reason of seeing it's potential, rather than actually have a specific goal for it's use, once learned. And since they already is able to control Arcane magic and demonic magic, they sure must have built up a lot of curiosity about this holy/light magic, which they don't yet control.
* Troll Druid - trolls used to be a nature/nomadic society, living of the land where they were, which just seems reasonable enough that some of them would try to allign themselves with the land they live off, as much as possible.
Human Hunters: Yes, you can easily create instances where humans would fill the hunter role, but that is not how classes were assigned from a lore standpoint. While there are human huntsman npcs all over, the majority of humans favor direct combat over lone wolf ranging, and majority rules.
Orc Mage: From a cultural standpoint, WoW Orcs are historically shamans. This magic style is very free-formed and wild, a direct opposite to the strict formula-based arcane magics. So while they could become mages, it goes against their culture and nature.
Night Elf Mage: They didn't stop using magic to hide from the Legion, they stopped because their craving for magic was destroying them. And now that they've seen how much damage continued magical addiction has done to their cousins the Blood Elves, I highly doubt they'll reconsider their abandonment of magic any time soon.
Dwarf Mage: This one is sort of a fence issue, as one could come up with lore reasons for them on either side. So I will strike this one down for the same reason Blizzard did, that balance-wise they did not fit.
Blood Elf Warrior: Elves have always traditionally been the rangers of the Alliance military. They much prefer stalking with a bow and arrow than charging with sword and shield. That is why they were given the hunter class instead of the warrior, as it better represents their fighting style.
Dwarf Shaman: This is an absolutely ludicris idea for a race/class combo for two reasons. First, Dwarves are followers of the Light, which would make shamanism seem fairly blasphemous. Second, Dwarves have had too many bad experiences with the elementals (see Ragnaros) to want anything to do with them.
Undead Hunter: While they may have been hunters in life, in undeath that lifestyle really doesn't work anymore. I could think of a few reasons for this, ranging from asking how much they really need to hunt and wondering what animals are going to trust an undead master.
Tauren Priest/Paladin: These classes do no draw on just any sort of religious conviction for their power like in other fantasy settings. In the Warcraft universe, they draw their power specifically from the Light. While the Light follows all that are good, to actually take up it's powers requires proper training and belief. And beyond that what's to say the Tauren even buy into the whole thing? The only place they would hear that from would be missionaries of the Alliance or from the Forsaken (who are probably fairly cynical about the Light as it still has not delivered them from their fates). There may be some converts, but the vast majority would rather stay with the traditions that have guided their race for as long as they can remember.
Gnome Priest: Gnomes are a race of science and logic, so it is not really suprising that they are not very interested in the Light. Even if they do believe in it's power, they cannot study it and therefore have very little use for it. Gnomes would rather put their faith in the arcane sciences that allow them to thrive, or the scholarly arts of the arcane. Beyond the lore there is an even better reason Gnomes should never be able to be priests, it would be a balance-killer. The 5% intellect racial ability that they get would give Gnomes a much larger mana pool than an equally equiped priest of any other race. This would cause all Alliance healers to re-roll Gnome and all Horde healers to Rage Quit.

Guys this is not a WOW bash. I just think it's just time to move on. I can only see me enjoying a few things if this is true and most of it involves the animation:
1) Worgen running or whatever they do when they attack.
2) Gnomes - I don't know summoning robots
3) Maybe some fights in STV.
4) I was there at Vanilla I just don't seem to care anymore, and I sure don't want to run dungeons that I ran 5 years ago in 40 man.....no matter how they have changed for lvl 85.
5)You want to make things crazy blizz make a sword anyone can have, but only 1, not one per server only 1 for a special player.
