While were talking about Fileplanet can i please ask the CO dev team to take the executive, who was responsible for handing the keys to the castle to Fileplanet, out the back of the building and beat the crap out of him.
They took every opportunity to make it seem like you had subscribe to their service to be able to play the beta, and were exceptionally quiet when asked if this was the case. I reckon this will have done more harm to the game than the benefits they saw in signing up with them.
at my current patching speed on a cable ISP I'm getting ~20MB per 5 minutes.. at this rate assuming the patcher is correct in saying 3623MB at 20MB-5min I should be finished in approximately 15.09583333333333 hours.
I was done in an hour, and I use cable as well. Let's not get too dramatic here. It's not like today is the only day for beta, it's going for an entire week.
I was done in an hour, and I use cable as well. Let's not get too dramatic here. It's not like today is the only day for beta, it's going for an entire week.
But it does mean I can't play today. Does it take alot of thought to unlock the client a couple of days ago so we could do our updates and then be able to login to the open beta when it starts?
I don't know, I don't make mmo's. Is it really all that important though? I'm in this thing too, and have to download and patch like everyone else, but considering that you'll have the rest of the week to determine whether or not you wish to fully buy the game, seems sufficient time to me, so all the posts about how long it's is taking seems rather useless. You're going to get in, you're going to play the game for quite some time in the near future, so 12-24 hours depending on individual circumstances out of a possible what...168 hours? *shrugs* I just think there's a lot better things to create threads for.
My 168 hours will be filled with many other things, such as work, sleep, family, girlfriend, downloading iphone apps, and pondering thoughtfully to myself on the joys of life.
We don't all have 168 hours with which to devote all of our time to 'Beta Testing'.
I concur with the statement about unlocking the client a tad bit earlier to allow for the patch process.
I said possible there smart guy. I have all those things too. I never said I'd be spending all that time on the game. Again, I said out of a possible 168 hours, 12-24 hours doesn't really put a dent in the time you'll get. Besides if all you really had was a day to play this game, why sign up for the open beta to begin with.
I don't know, I don't make mmo's. Is it really all that important though? Yes I'm in this thing too, and have to download and patch like everyone else, but considering that you'll have the rest of the week No to determine whether or not you wish to fully buy the game, seems sufficient time to me Keywords 'to me' , so all the posts about how long it's is taking seems rather useless. Kills time waiting for game to update You're going to get in, you're going to play the game for quite some time in the near future, so 12-24 hours depending on individual circumstances out of a possible what...168 hours? *shrugs* I just think there's a lot better things to create threads for. Your opinion
So you guys are telling me that you have all these things, family, work, sleep and all that. Yeah I get that, I have all those things too. But you're making it sound like 12 hours is the end of the world for you and this game. You're seriously going to sit there and tell me, that for the rest of this week long open beta you're not going to have sufficient time to play this game and determine whether or not you're going to buy the game? As I said earlier then, why waste your time and money on a pre-order, or obtaining a beta key then?
Edit: Also, tell me how it's important? You either got a free beta key losing nothing, or you spent 5 bucks on a pre-order. Even if you spent more you have an entire week to take the money back, if you're just tooooo butt hurt to wait an afternoon. Why don't you two go spend time with your family, or work or sleep, or download iphone applications or sit thoughtfully all day about life, since that's obviously so important, why wouldn't it be important now? Hell you have the free time. Instead of comming on here crying about a freaking video game, why not go be the mature individuals of society you are so adamently claiming to be.
My 168 hours will be filled with many other things, such as work, sleep, family, girlfriend, downloading iphone apps, and pondering thoughtfully to myself on the joys of life.
So only on mondays for 12 hours do you have to whine on forums and beta test.
Well, sucks to be you then.
We'll let you know our thoughts on it next Monday when you check back.
And I was expressing my disagreement with them lol. I have nothing against you posting your opinions, I'm simply stating you could make better use of them. Sharing them on something other than something that you can't change for example. Like this. It's useless to cry about patching time. You can't change it. You're going to deal with it, or else you're not going to play the game. It's just that simple. None of the developers are going to be reading this, and think "oh hell ajm563's getting antsy, we better hurry the hell up!!!"
Well atleast you guys are patching, I had to wait for 6pm (UK time) to,,,
1. find out there a 3gig patch
2. for the launcher to say "server offline" and not even downloading the patch - I guess buried in the small print was the line "only for north america".
Ill try it tommorrow and if still no luck I put my beta account up for grabs on here, no sense it going to waste.
Hmm, mine got up to 3% in an hour then froze and I had to restart it. Guess the whole world and his dog are stress testing the patch servers for Cryptic...

I think it is perfectly valid to complain about and/or criticize Cryptic for how this was handled. They should have allowed Client updating a couple of days ago.
Nobody is crying about it. But we've all seen this handled much better.

As it just so happens, yes. Sunday and Monday are my only days free through out the week. The rest are spent doing other various things I am obligated to do in my life. It doesn't really suck to be me though, au contrair mon ami!
Yes, I would appreciate you letting me know how it goes!
On a side note, though more in line with the topic of this post. The patcher now states: 26% complete 281.4MB downloaded and 967.8MB patched. This means that there must be some sort of compression and the entire 3.62 "GIGAWATTS" of information needn't be downloaded. According to my calculations there will only be around 1 GB that need be downloaded to finalize the patching process.
**kudos to those of you who thought of Dr. Brown and Marty McFly when I said "GIGAWATTS!" and thought of the famous scene.**
***EDIT***
if youre curious as to what a gigawatt is, here for your viewing pleasure is an explanation of the famous scene.
Comments
I'm installing and updating.
***EDIT***
Made an edit to say it wasn't updating, but now it is downloading updates and says servers online so nevermind

Tragic mistake
hmm,

bleh.
Bleh me too. 3.6 GB of updates at a snails pace. Not a good first impression.
I was done in an hour, and I use cable as well. Let's not get too dramatic here. It's not like today is the only day for beta, it's going for an entire week.

I am guessing it could be all us rabid fans hitting it at once.
I thought this was the point of the pre-load we wouldn't need to do all this though.
My 168 hours will be filled with many other things, such as work, sleep, family, girlfriend, downloading iphone apps, and pondering thoughtfully to myself on the joys of life.

Beta testing is pretty much over. I would call it a free trial before release. They will be testing their hardware against +50k players mostly.

I wouldn't be posting if I was playing.
Well yeah my opinion, that's what forums are for.

So... can you get a beta key without being a filep[lanet "subscriber" or not?
