I agree its pretty fricken stupid if ya ask me. For them to say 10 am is a fricken joke. Sure the closed beta testers will be in playing at 10 am because they were patched up. But wtf is the point in releasing a 1.8 gig clients only to have people patch 3.6 gigs. I mean couldn't they just have... you know a semi up to date client for us to d/l. It's not 10 am it will be more like 10 pm if lucky. 5 min into patching I am like 0.9 percent. that's like what 12 percent an hour. F A I L.
You could have patched the game a while ago. I patched the game before my closed beta session was activated.
I am guessing you are talking about that link floating around with the download... Considering most of the people downloaded the way it was "suppose" to be done (as per email instructions). And that file just became unlocked an hour ago, I don't see how you can say that bs.
Patch is not 3.6 GB big, do not worry. That is the overall size of game data to be modified by the compressed patch, that is significantly less in this case.
Actual patch size for people from CB since Friday (Gold Master that is also hosted by Fileplanet) was 400 + 70 + 32 Megs
Cryptic has made an huge error how they represent the data. It confuses a lot of people who can't read various numbers shown.
yea not all of us knew about it...and not many of us were in closed beta either...it doesnt matter im hearing alot of stink about this game anyway so not in to much of a hurry to get in.

I've only seen this post once. But, thanks for the info. 500 MB definitely better than 3.6 GB.

The OP said that he downloaded the client weeks ago. So that means that he/she could have patched the game a long time ago.
So if you just downloaded it, well yea sorry for you, but for someone that downloaded it weeks ago, That is who my post was directed to.
Yeah.. I just got the client myself.. time to go play a game while waiting for it to patch, in 15 mins its 0.1% done, and i can download at over 1 megabyte per second (hit this speed from fileplanet easly)

no i couldnt..i got it through fileplanet.it was locked until today you couldnt install it or anything
You guys are complaining because they are patching the game? You guys are a joke.
I thnk they are complaining because it's 3 gigs of patch and it wasn't clear that you could do it beforehand. My download indicated that I had to wait until today to unlock the client. so I just went about doing my business to "wait for today".
Had I known I could patch beforehand, as others are insinuating, I would have done it.
In the end I can wait for the 3 gig download. However, it's not a constant download (for obvious reasons) and does stop at times.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Well it's hardly cryptics fault .. furthermore it doesn't matter. Even if you couldn't download it before had of course the beta is going to have patches before it starts. it's silly to assume otherwise.

It's not the 3.6 gig that matters much, it's the 1% per 10 minutes download speed. Or the fact that fileplanet touted the game as being able to "preload" so you could play as soon as the beta was launched. You'd think after having it up for two weeks on their site they could have renamed it "1/4 preload".

Thanks for clarifying it for those who did not understand what we were complaining about.

If you were in closed beta you got to keep your client and patches..if you were an Open Beta Key user you got an Encrypted uninstallable client that only just came unlocked in the last few hours..so for most of us we're all getting squeezed trying to patch 3 gigs that closed beta users got.
Well it's hardly cryptics fault .. furthermore it doesn't matter. Even if you couldn't download it before had of course the beta is going to have patches before it starts. it's silly to assume otherwise.
Can you not read? This was a preloaded beta from Fileplanet that was to unlock today. The reason for a preload is so that there isn't GIGS of data to download on the day the client is available. Of course everyone knows there will be patches.. but not 3.5 gigs worth when you thought you had already downloaded the entire client.
Yes it IS Cryptic's fault.. it's their game and they supplied the client to Fileplanet.

What's even more idiotic was locking the client in the first place. What was the point in that? You couldn't access the game until today even if you had the game loaded and updated. Don't know if it was Fileplanet's or Cyptic's idea, but it was stupid.

Fileplanet does that alot with the beta games they host its been done in the past was before Champions Online, I dont know why they do it but it is quite annoying.
I think its more for Fileplanet to say "Hey! we're the first ones supplying the download!" just for the sake of staying on top of the market for providing downloads for beta games and general gaming information.
I mean... there's no chance they did this intentionally to put stress on the patch servers and test the patch process in general. Who do they think they are testing the F'ing game!?!

So if you just downloaded it, well yea sorry for you, but for someone that downloaded it weeks ago, That is who my post was directed to.
The download from Fileplanet was encrypted and did not "unlock", i.e. allow you to even install the game, until about an hour ago. So, no, we could not have patched it ahead of time. (If an unlocked version was available somewhere, that information was not shared as part of the process. People who followed the directions got stuck with a locked installer).
BTW, the issue now is more than a slow patcher, the patcher just stops. It doesn't restart if you leave it and if you cancel and restart, it doesn't pick up where you left off.
Why they would prevent Open Beta testers from patching the game days ago is beyond me. If it was a test for their patch servers under heavy load, to prepare for launch day, it's a mega-failure.
We all know Open Betas now a days are 99% marketing. As far as marketing goes, they couldn't have made a worse impression. How is any one new to checking out this title supposed to think that Cryptic is anything but completely incompetent?

I have to agree with this...I really don't see myself sitting here for the next 10 hours restarting it every time it decides to freeze up.
I mean... there's no chance they did this intentionally to put stress on the patch servers and test the patch process in general. Who do they think they are testing the F'ing game!?!
Well then I have even less repect for them. Most MMO's have some kind of beta and many people who plan on playing will just have a small update on the day of release. This makes it smoother for the people who load and fully patch the game on release day. This isn't 10 years ago, we are not waiting for the store to open on release day to get our copy of the game anymore.

Same here. You mean there's another 3 gigs to download? Forget it. Looks like I'll be skipping this one.

3 Gb download only if you are starting it now. Close beta to open beta had a 500Mb patch.
By the way, you could download the game at any time after you got your key. I patched my game yesterday.
