I've played around 20 hours in the whole weekend :-) No lag whatsoever while server population was High (at least the login indicated that). System is not low-end: Duo core 2.66 with 2GB RAM memory and a 9800GTX but it drives a 1920x1200 Wide resolution without any problem.
Originally posted by Cammy I had very litte lag problems, the entire weekend.
Are you on vista? There's a known problem that .net installs itself "twice" and causes all kinds of problems. I had to uninstall and reinstall it a few times in order for that part to work. Was getting horrible download times for Aion before that. Cause honestly - I have no problems and I played a LOT this weekend. Maybe... 2-3 instances total....
I would like to know more about this. It seems like I may have had this problem. I have Vista x64 and even in the launcher it said that the game was not installed...
I was on the Zipheal (?, the one that started with a 'Z') server.
I was also on the Trin... something server (sorry I am bad with names) and that one crashed 20 min into me playing on it right around when the closed beta opened.
This isn't going to affect my decision to play this game. I had a blas even with the lag (plus I already paid for my pre-order in full).
But, I would like to know if there is a fix or a proper way to install the client so that .net doesn't install itself "twice".
Also, it took me 4 days to download the client (that is without turning off my computer for 4 days btw) and I have 6MB internet through comcast
Not a stich of lag; not even for a second... I can't imagine what your problem was.
A) It doesn't have to be NCSoft causing the problem, it can be anything along the route through the Internet.
Try www.pingplotter.com to figure out where your bottleneck is located on the Internet. Then you can post the results showing that it is NCSoft servers causing it.
Based on results of these forums and the official Aion forums, it appears the lag is due to certain peopls connection with their ISP. Mine is Comcast, probably one of the most popular in the US, so there is a serious promlem. I am hopeing that Aion acklnowledges the problem at least. If it continues during the open beta, I will request my money back. From what I have read, there is no need to contact my bank to do a charge back, NCSoft will refund online order price without issue. I guess if enough people do this, getting them to acknowledge there is a problem will be eaiser.

This was done in a sticky under the general forum: People even contacted the last server where the hops died and they said the issue was not on their end, implying that it was a return route problem and thus NCSoft's responsibility to provide feedback ( which they hadn't ).
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
I have given up fighting with the lag...we are talking about clicking an attack icon and nothing happening for 5 seconds or longer. And this is constantly. I get excellent fps (100-150) and my connection (12MB dl) is fine with every thing else. What is frustrating is that I guess it is very hit or miss. Some say they have absolutely no lag at all, while others cant even play the game. I have tried different servers and changes channels...but, nothing can stop the lag. Maybe by open beta it will be better?
Zero lag at any point in this last Beta, even when first logging on at tip off. I had some for 2-3 hours during number 5, but this one was flawless.

This is the support link, I'd be curious to see if this fixes your problem. I had it fixed before I experienced any "lag" from within the game.... but I know how technology works and if it was busted on the launcher, it's a good bet it was broken in game too.
I didn't play this weekend, but I was having lag on previous events. NC softs other game, Lineage 2, has been having lag problems too (I had to unsubscribe finally). So it seems NC soft is still passing the buck saying its the ISP and not their problem. But it only effects their games, so go figure.
Well i can tell you that it is RARE for developers to admit their mistakes.I experienced this playing ROM,the game crashes everyday several times, their tech support told me the odd crash is normal and gave me the usal BS what to check for.Now yesterday Frogster announces they have admitted to the memory allocation problems and are working to fix it,so on occasion they do step up and admit it.
This NCSOFT problem really has me interested,i am waiting to hear what the problem is,because it is a weird one lol.People wondering about their ISP,download means nothing, you all have tons of d/l to play anygame,if their was ANY concern it would be your UPLOAD,witch for most is usually under the 1mb[closer to the 500-600 range],but is still usually more than enough as most games do not require much at all.
For those claiming to have high frame rates, they need t oknow how their PING is,if you know the server ip address, then traceroute it,and see how stable your connections are to the server. If your connections are NO packet loss and under 200 pings, then it is for sure a problem on NCSOFTs end .
Personally i never had any lag issues,so it must be something recent they did with their software updates that don't appeal to everyone's system. If i remember i was playing on servers over seas, and i usually have tons of lag issues over their, yet i had little to none,so i do not think stability is an issue.

Yes, latency can be caused by your connection to your ISP. However, since it seems to be the reaction of many people to immediately blame the server when they experience lag, I'm sure that they are just pointing out that it can be the conection to your ISP that is the problem. I don't think that it was the actual diagnosis. In fact, any hop between your computer and the server that can contribute to latency. If it was the connection to your ISP that was the problem there would be nothing for NCSoft to acknowledge. That would be something completely out of their control, and clearly not their problem. Some people may be experiencing network related issues, but I'm guessing many are not.
Keep in mind that many times what people perceive, and report, as lag has nothing to do with the server, or their internet connection. People use the term "lag" rather broadly, so it's very difficult to diagnose problems . Quite often it is something on their computer; drivers not up to date (or bad), faulty hardware, insufficient RAM, software conflicts, etc... You can have 50 different people posting that they are experiencing "lag" and there could be 50 different reasons why.
no lag here.. but sure got a loadcrap of disconnections this weekend.. one annoying thing is, if you get dc you have to reload the bloody game right from start.. could just kick yyou out to the login screen.
