I need help making money.

VarnyVarny Member Posts: 765

Hi I'm new to the game and having a hard time making money.

- I've tried Agent missions but they're boring as hell.

- I've tried Mining but it's boring as hell.

- I've tried PVP but as soon as I jump into Low Sec I die.

It's like what other ways are there to make money that might be fun? I've tried looking for a Corp but they all have like 10 members and suck. They tell you to come to them to do some PVP or whatever but you die trying to get to them in Low sec.

Are you sure you know what mmo-games are?

Hm, if you're already finding out the pve in the game is boring this might be bad.

You could try joining a corp based in 0.0 and pickup salvaging for a bit.

What i used to do was hop in a vexor and leave it on afk mining with drones out in 0.5. Then come back here and there to check wrecks to see if the rats dropped anything good

Later once i got combat skills I started ratting out in 0.0.

Every so often I do exploration sites as well....

Also if you going to try to do lowsec pvp well.... I better not giove advice there since I've always been in a 0.0 corp mostly. So I've always done small gang -> fleet pvp

And ya I had the same issue i kept getting recruited into small, crappy corps. Finally put me foot down and got into a nice big one and game got much easier and more fun :)

Small corps can be fun I imagine but my luck with them was just pretty bad. they just seemed to have the highest taxes and worse space

Why not just join a bigger corp that gives you ships, weapons etc. Its just about getting ahold of a "serious corp" got invites nearly everyday by larger corps so dont see why you shouldnt have the same offers... although, no never mind you go seek them that is for the best.

Is there any way to get the ore to transfer into a can without actually having to be at the PC? Cause I could stand mining if I could leave it there to do it's thing for a couple hours and I'll do something else and come back to collect it.

My friend just buys all his ISK and tbh I don't want to have to spend real life money to be able to have fun in the game. All I want is enough money to actually be able to buy skills and ships so I have a chance in PVP. I wish they did some Noob battlegrounds where you don't lose your ships so you could get the hang of the PVP before you're thrown out into the wild.

Tried a Crow but all that happened was I orbited them but couldn't break their tank so I just kept him there for a laugh until eventually someone else jumped in and killed me and that was the end of all my money my mate gave me.

I can't even craft anything cause it costs me more to make stuff than it would sell for lol.

EVE Isk is $14 for 200 mill

Now I made 10 mill in 6 hours of boring mining which I'll never do again.

I earn more than $14 and hour.

So if I do an hour of over time at work  I can just buy ISK and waste less time doing shit I hate so I can have fun in PVP.

For many of us that play, eve is most enjoyable because it is an exercise in problem solving.

It is definitely tough to make ISK starting out, but people figure out how to do it all the time.  The fact that your first couple ships come so hard-earned (for people that actually PLAY the game) is a big part of why learning eve pvp is so intense.

I remember mining for a week to get my first cruiser.. and promptly getting it ganked out from under me a few jumps into low sec.  I was new and I was stupid.  But I learned to avoud the same mistakes.

It sounds to me like you view everything in eve that stands between you and blowing shit up as pointless filler.

You'd probably be better off sticking with games built on instant action (FPS and the like) than spending your cash on illegal ISK.  It takes months and years to learn the nuances of eve pvp.. if you guy buy and fit an expensive ship without the knowledge or support skills to fly it, you might as well put your money in a toaster.  On the other hand you are gonna make some pirate's day when he blows you up and takes your shiny stuff.

The pvp in eve is possibly the best and most intense in any MMO, but it is more importantly about lnowledge, tactics, intel, and fitting... and that is all stuff that takes time to learn.

Eve is a game of years.  If you don't like mining, look at the eve universe with an analytical eye and figure out a way to make you living differently.  There are as many ways to succeed as there are players.

Others may feel differently, but I look at people that need to "buy" isk as a bit of a joke.  In fact, a good number of the people that I know in game don't even pay monthly fees- they make evough in-game cash to afford PLEX.

If you look back through the archives on this board I even posted about how I quit eve and game back with a brand new character and figured out how to make 20 mil/ day in nothing but a rookie ship with no skills..  Eve is only as limited as your own imagination.  No one can stop you from buying ISK.. just realize you will have NO respect if you go that route.

deviliscious: (PS. I have been told that when I use scientific language, it does not make me sound more intelligent, it only makes me sound like a jackass. It makes me appear that I am not knowledgable enough in the subject I am discussing to be able to translate it for people outside the field to understand. Some advice you might consider as well)

EVE is not made for instant gratification and people like you will suck forever.
    ISK won't save you.

You need to start thinking instead.

  • XennithXennith Member Posts: 1,244

the two richest groups of people in eve are traders and industrialists.

you can make money from manufacturing, if you train up production efficiency and research your blueprints you should find your profit margins increase. missions are dull, mining is dull, but these things for most people are not the game, the game is shooting other people which is what it seems to be for you.

my advice is to join a 0.0 corp and go rat, or use exploration probes to find sites and do those to get some money, that way you get lots of pvp as well.

you say that as soon as you enter lowsec you die, then go on to talk about how you tackled someone in a crow for a while, which is it?

suckers die alone; killers hunt in packs. (*edit- this is not an attack on you my bad; this just always been my motto) Think about animal kingdom where you see lions and wolves hunting in packs. EVE is like this

If you ever see a lion hunting solo he might be just bait for a bigger gang.

This is how we just nailed a gang earlier. we sent in bait, waited for them to bite and incur aggression timer, then we all jumped in and got some easy kills :)

Did it take a lot of skill? Not in this instance. But it was fun

Anyway just join a 0.0 corp is my advice. Salvage for a little bit til you hit 100 mil+ after a week or so (depends on your luck). Then go buy lotsa ships.

Most pvpers go on a binge and just grind pve for a couple hrs a month or whatever. Save a stash. Then pvp and pvp and pvp til they run through their savings

But many alliances have reimbursement. For isntance i loss a HAC other day and I was sent reimbursement ISK. But even better, find something effe3ctive and cheap where reimbursement fully covers your loss :)

You can do it surely. I know ive given newbies millions. ?Just hop in a fleet and whine how broke you are. Hell most fleets they have Carriers that have a fleet of rifters. but maybe that just my corp/fleets :)

thats because you just started playing. i do 10M in 1 hour when i solo mine.

i say start with a high sec corp. learn the ropes of fitting ships, learning some basic skills (like engineering and electronics, maybe a couple of ships (up to battlecruiser) then train to fit them properly.  then move to a low sec- or nul sec corp (or if your lucky your corp will have plans to move to low sec or  nul sec

there are 2 sayings that helped me out when i started playing eve, that i will pass on to you

    1. just because you can fly a ship does not mean you should

    2. count your zeros

as for making isk. mission running it starts to get interesting at lvl 4-5 (mostly 5) where you need a fleet of battleships and battlecruisers and apparently (learned this today) they have the enhanced AI the sleepers have so tactics is a must.

in the industrial world... well you can start making basic items with cheap blue prints with your own mining minerals (or at least part of it and then grow as you get mining barges and even more when you get the hulk. (and yes it will take you a while to get the hulk, but hey you dont get max lvl in any other MMORPG in a few days)

as for trading, well as the saying goes, you need money to make money. i found that 100 Million isk investments is the minimum you need to invest to see decent profits.

but hey with a hulk you can mine the minerals for a raven battleship in a few days (well i just mined veldspar and sold the trit to buy the rest of the minerals) thats 80M-85M right there

and finally start your own corp. have a couple of miners stack up the minerals and you can make more in the same amount of time.

you know what you could do- just hop in a destroyer and show up at battles. once again will require membership of an alliance initially. Find out where the big fights will happen. join the fleet in your destroyer or whatever you want to use to salvage

Now just salvage like a mutha**&* after yall kill someone.

If you want to reduce your risk then after joining a fleet just ask where is the 'safe pos'. Warop there. Wait for battle to end or someone gets popped. Now warp in and loot

What i used to do was put a salvager on my cloaker (helios, cloak ship). I'd cloak above gate, wait for blues/reds to get popped. Then uncloak and salvage t2 parts and stuff happily. Never really got rich like this tho

other day a carrier got popped and he dropped a fighter. but i couldnt fit the darn thing in my hold :( this made me sad

Another day a t3 cruiser got popped and no one could salvage. This also made me sad cause I was omw to a fleet op so missed out on some nice components

Profits will widely vary but at least its kinda fun

get conteiners with you so that you can dump ore inside of those instead of going back and forth and when you have enough go get it by a freighter, this way youl prolly make more, cant tell how much but can tell you its much more hands off, also EvE is a desctop game. Use webbrowser, msn and such while you do tasks such as mine.. its great sometimes

Well you can. I think you should sell Plexes, if you hate the grinding part of the game. That is one reason why CCP introduced them.

So basically wait years to be able to do anything........ I'll pass then I don't want to waste my life on a game. I swear most of the tasks in this game are made for the stupid like mining I wish I had a retarded friend who I could sit on the PC and train to do it.

I feel with you and also think that you will have more fun with other game that is not for 'retards'...

    Bye!

Join a corp. And yes, you initially have to spend few months developing a skill base to participate (it is annoying), but after that it should be easier.

You do not need that many skills or lots of money to join a PvP corp or a division. They always need people for certain type of role. Your core problem seems to be able to function when nobody is holding your hand - I can appreciate this, as most who have not played a sandbox game have this problem.

EVE is not a game for everyone.

you can join in orginized pvp in less then 1 month if you train the right skills, if your not the patient type get into a frickin corp otherwise you might as well leave as there is usually a very long training time. Should you not get ingame help your basicly fucked. That is if you do not want to play PvE missions/solo mine

I think the problem is you are expecting the game to just like hand you ISK for doing some simple activity. However the game is intended to be player driven. So the best ways to make isk is to get it from other players

For instance my friend plays EVE Poker and he makes more isk than me

My advice to the OP would be to suffer through missions until you can have solid skills and knowledge for a battlecruiser or battleship and then rat in 0.o and/or scan for complexes.

I offered you advice on how to make cash without grinding, but you didnt bother to read it apparently. I guess eve isnt your game, goodluck, have fun.

ppl like these are the reason i enjoy playing this game & not wow where every nub joins in & asks what is better int or spirit for a warlock for 5 consecutive days

Omgggggg my friends got me into this game and that said come join us and have fun. So far all any of them have done is logged in to switch their skills around and when I said lets go out and kill some shit they were too scared cause they didn't wanna lose anything.............

I swear EVE is the only game you pay not to play.

So far I've joined 6 different corps and all I've wanted to do is PVP right away and I've ended up waiting 2 days to do shit all. Most my time I'ves spent jumping backwards and forth. Just fucking stuck battlegrounds in the game and let me instantly get into PVP rather than wait a year for people to stopped being scared of dying in a game....

I usually wouldn't promote this game to someone, but go try Darkfall, that actually might be your style.  Either that or go play an MMO with BG's like AoC, WAR, or hell even WOW.....

I haven't even played this game yet.  I'm actually going to start the trial up here soon and Even I know enough about it  to realize it really isn't your play style.

This is the golden quote of this thread. This is all the OP needs to read and move on or back to WOW.

    Played EVE 4+ years

As stated by someone else, you can make a crazy amount of isk within a few  days of starting in EVE. There is a market... driven by players and items and resources in need. Use your head, if you want to button mash run back to your xbox.
