Whats the funest instance? (in your opinion)

Hello,

I've never played this game but I'm considering giving it a try. Instead of asking for specifics on what instances are like and such I just wanted to get an idea of what most fans find cool about the instances. I assume they must have more than your standard tank n' spank (sorry i hate that term too) fights. So I figured the best way to get an idea about what this game has to offer combat wise would just be to ask for anecdotes about what instances (raid or group) you've found most fun. Also I've played several MMOs, including WoW, so I'm fluent in general MMO jargon.

Thanks

Stealthy Repossession (level 2 Harbor quest) is a good example of why I love DDO quests. If you make a sneaky character then stealthing through this one is a blast. You have to sneak into a warehouse full of Kobolds and steel a gem. There are patrols to avoid, and alarms that will be rung  bringing in nearby kobolds if you are spotted. You can't just kill everything that moves either, if you kill 6 Kobold Prophets you fail the quest.

If you are not sneaky there are other ways you can complete it too. You can try brute force/zerging to the gem, you can try crowd controll, etc... but sneaky is the most fun :)

I don't remember which instance was the most fun but I really liked how bad ass some of the traps in this game were. That was until they said the traps were too powerful and toned them down.

There was nothing better than getting a group together and making sure everyone was staying together and moving slowly through the dungeon only to have that ONE retard (sorry lack of a better word used for description) see a chest and go running towards it just to die by a perfectly placed trap. HAHA good times.

I really wish they would make the traps deadly as all hell like before.

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

There is really no comparing DDO instances to anything you have seen in other MMORPG's. All of DDO's instances have traps, secrets, locked things, switches, levers, puzzles, and some really cool scripted events. You just never know then the floor might fall out from under you and drop you onto a room full of zombies. Its good to have a rogue lead the way scouting out traps enemies while stealthed. Enemies react to sight and sound and will aggro at some realistic distances. Since you don't get experience per kill like you do in most MMOG's, there is a good incentive to avoid encounters when its possible.

There is a quest out in Three Barrel Cove that is nothing but puzzles, and its quite hard. One of my favorites is Shan-to-Kor. It starts like a normal old sewer full of kobolds, then you find the open cavern that seems to keep going down and down and down until you find a hobgoblin city at the bottom. By the time you get there it feels like you've found the center of the planet.

Some bosses are tank'n'spank and some aren't. Many of them have a trick to them. They might require a special weapon type, or to do something in their lair to weaken them. They won't be quite as choreographed and contrived as a WoW boss. Most have a realistic feel to them and require a practical strategy to take down. For the most part though, high DPS melee makes quick work of them.

Aganazer hit mine: The Halls of Shan-To-Kor, or STK as we affectionately call it, is a 3 part quest (with a 4th optional part) that can be run as low as level 3, although a full group of 3s would be hard pressed to do it, and both a rogue and a caster are essential. At any rate, you could run it after perhaps 2 hours of play, and groups are easy to find.

One of my other favorites, although most people despise it, is the Inferno of the Damned, in the Orchard of the Macabre; it's a ruined temple forming an inter-planar maze. Portals allow you to teleport to Fernia, the Plane of Fire and back, which you must do to destroy 4 flame guardians in order to kill their undead forms in Fernia. Done in the proper order, the quest takes as little as 20 minutes, but without an experienced guide, even with an online walkthrough and map, it can take hours.

I guess what really got me about this game is that it is the first, and really the only MMO that treats rogues as full characters. In Everquest, they flat out sucked. In WoW, they were almost a little better, but still didn't really "rogue" anything and kind of sucked. In DDO, there are quests that simply aren't done without a rogue.

STK the first time takes some beating, things like the first time a floor collapses, or doors slam shut for an ambush, or something like the Velah (Red Dragon) rising up or the Warforged Titan powering up.

Here is an old post that sums up my feeling about DDO instances and gameplay.
