ok, so now that we are over the lameness, that we all knew as WoW vs EQ2. Two overrated and definantly overdiscussed games, its time to look on the horizon for some actually good looking games.... and ones that have no fanbois lol.... The new innovative games...

Well here is the list of ones that I think look good and look like they will be released at around the same time.

Whats catching my eye are the following...

Vanguard, Saga of Heros
Wish
Dark & Light
Mourning
and if you want to consider it one Guild Wars.

Well so far Vanguard definantly caught my eye. They are really focusing on making it a good raiding game it seems... focusing on making it challenging, with a good graphics engine. From the creaters of original EQ... back when it was good through velious hehe if any of you remember. Sort of an eq clone but hey, they are improving upon what many think of as the best in MMO

Wish seems very innovative... where they have the live content. Definantly a new idea, if they can produce everything they promis on their website, I think this will turn out to be a suprise hit. Especially how they have rogues, where you actually ARE a rogue, not just melee support class like in all the other games, they are definantly innovating in this area, check the web site out if you dont know what I'm talking about.

I dont know much about D&L other then they like wish are having everyone in the same "world" which seems to be a neat idea in theory. I know its a PvP centric game.

Mourning is definantly looking like a hardcore game, where when you die, you die forever. Definantly not for carebares... but I bet you get the best rushes out of this game hehe.

Lastly guild wars, definantly like how they are focusing on the skill of the player rather then, who lvls up the most, since leveling is super fast in this game, I think this is more for the diablo fan then the MMO though, this game is almost entirely pvp. I think this is more of a game to play when you dont have much time to log on and just want to pvp for like an hour.

well thats about it, I wonder which of these will turn out to be the better game, and I for one am definantly more hyped up about these then i Was for WoW or eq2 ROFL :P

Yes, let's hype some new games so that when they arrive on the scene we will have more heightened and unreasonable expectations. That's a great plan to counteract the disappointment from a set of releases that were overhyped into unreasonable expectations.

    Bravo!

    Yup yup!

Vanguard is, I will admit, my top expectation ATM, despite the fact I know Brad is prolly not to be trusted, he screw it with Kunark as far as I am concern(I aint a raider).  However, they focus on special servers rules which is strongly appealing to me, as far as I dont need to raid or PvP, I will definitely be happier.  Microsoft might be evil and all, but I am spoiled to Microsoft since the day I walk away from my Amiga image, I see little point in helping competition, the best competitor is dead, the others aint got any caring from me.

DnL, might be nice or not, but they didnt understand the main focus, they enforce stuff on everyone, PvP for best reward...You lose against *insert whatever MMORPG name that will win me* in a duel to the death!

Mourning, read for DnL but reduce my expectations. :)

Guild Wars, I dont trust them anymore then I was trusting Blizzard, but if Blizzard fire them, maybe there is good in the team and hope for much! image

Tabula Rasa, my main fear with the game is that it might turn to be ''real time coordination'', and since I lack at it, I will just go play a friendlier game for the game based turn community that accept real time for any various reason.  Look great however.

Wish, the team is still having some serious aggro issue with the various MMORPGs(EQ in particuliar), you can feel it when you read their stuff, they are disgrunted and thriving to make the best product, I suppose they will add a little like DAoC did, but I fear that like DAoC, they will fall beside for most stuff, yet, I will give them a serious try and hope they hook me.

EDIT:  FUN is what matter the most, innovation is nice, but secondary...MUST do this attitude is not fun, it is anything but not fun.

I would also add Saga of Ryzom (really won't be complete for another few months),  Roma Victor, and Pirates of the Burning Sea to the list. My choices in order

    1. Dark and Light - my first choice. Promises superior gameplay for every taste.

    2. Saga of Ryzom - Challenging PvE, sophisticated player economy,  realm vs realm PvP just starting along with the backstory.

    3. Pirates of the Burning Sea - You fight with ships in real time against other players, competitive gameplay surrounding economic gain.

    4. Wish - A lite version of Dark and Light without the PvP competition

    5. Mourning - Could be really good competitive gameplay for the first 500 hours until forced character death. I would rank this higher without the forced death.

    6. Roma Victor - A game or an alternate reality simulation set in Roman times?

    7. Vanguard - Not enough information to even rank it . All game designs require tradeoffs and these devs are not providing the details, just the heavenly (and unrealistic) goals. The dev hype makes me very suspicious but we shall see as more detailed info becomes available.

The really big new game play item this coming year is whether flat skill trees will work. This breaks the Everquest mold of leveling up and thus the motivation to advance your character.  Wish, Mourning, Roma Victor all have flat skill trees. Can the other gameplay elements they provide keep the interest of their players?

I would also add Darkfall to the list if I could be sure it would ship in 2005.

In any event 2005 promises to be the year of the MMOG and I can't wait to try out as many as I can.

Actually I find it ironic that you mock EQ2 and WoW yet in the next sentence talk about Vanguard. Sheesh, talk about another huge mmorpg with a definite multimillion dollar ad budget in its future. If you wanna talk innovation then you need to check out a unique game you left off your list....FALLEN EARTH... in my opinion the only game I see thats different and therefore worth the hype.

Dark and Light will own all other games IMO, at least for the people that like some good PvP. ::::28::

hehe if dark and light suck am gonna be laughing. Is just that all i hear is how much dark and light is gonna be the best, and kick all of mmorpgs butts, but have anybody actually played it??. Is not unusual that games end up breaking our hearts in the end.

Its like building expectations is better than actually making a great game, it makes no sense.
It happend to me with guild wars, its a an awesome game, but people keep telling me how much better it was from wow, then after playing wow in the ob, i got a little dissapointed of GW, i came back to GW thinking "is that all", which is a little unfair because i had a great time in GW in the pvp arenas. But i dont think that is better than WOW anymore

The lesson, dont get too high expectations until actually experience the games. ::::28::

    You said it best!

This thread should have died after your post!

Kboy_5 in the first post of this thread goes off on the hype, and how supposivly WoW and EQ2 are "failures". But then he wants to do the same thing to upcoming not yet released games - trying to increase their hype meter as high as WoW and EQ2.

Why do some posters have this BIG need to think each game is at war with other games? It is a FACT many gamers play more than one game! So your "war" doesn't even exist! WoW vs EQ2? Guess what - many players play BOTH! Wish vs Vanguard? Wish vs EQ2? Guess what - many players play BOTH! What's the matter? It is not enough that your character is uber in whatever game you play? You feel the need to be uber vs all other games? LOL! Please don't tell me your egos are that delicate. image

Just pick a game you like, and play it. That is why there are sooo many different choices. If there is a game you do not like - then do not play it. And stop trying to over hype the mighty VANGUARD and other future titles not yet released! image If you want to tell others about a game you like, simply say "I like this game [insert name]. Here are all the reasons why I like it." Without naming any other game! If you have to name another game then it means the game you like cannot stand on its own.

(Kind of like the current bomb movie out right now called "Alexander". Every 30 mins they keep talking about Achelles aka Brad Pitt's movie which came out a few months before. As if they know their movie can't stand on its own, so they try in any way possible to associate it with Brad Pitt to get any possible recignition from it. )

some of you must have really low reading comprehension.

When referring to the whole WoW vs EQ2 I was commenting on how idiotic all the WoW vs eq2 Posts were. And how they mostly turned into fanbois from both games just spitting out insults against eachother... I find it stupid how you see my post as trying to start a flame war. All I did was point out what the next gen of what look to be like "potential" successfull games that are on the horizon have to offer.

I guess I might have offended people that play either wow or eq2... obviously overhyped lol....

And how is discussing 5 games coming out and what they offer going to raise hype meter LOL and how would that even benefit me LOL you are f.ing stupid man

  • kboy_5kboy_5 Member Posts: 77

non of these games have fabois since they are ORIGINAL AND NOT a SEQUAL, or in wow's case. an RTS game turned into MMO. which both have tons of FANBOIS omg retards

  • ianubisi  did a nice job shooting you down kboy_5. imageimage ianubisi never resorted to name calling. He just posted info. You quickly sunk into namecalling, even after claiming you are not trying to start yet another flame war over "game x vs game y".
