I read the first line of their letter to the player base and I can't believe what I am reading...
"The biggest issue we’ve had today is that getting into the Champions Online open beta was more popular than even we hoped for."
Er, what? Really? Finding that the patcher sent to FilePlanet was copying the files to the WRONG folder requires a single person testing on a single computer for about 10 minutes. Releasing a patch like this is an insult to the QC department.
And as we all know, this is not exactly an open "everyone can join" type of beta, is it? Cryptic released a set number of beta keys that were carefully dispatched to FilePlanet and other sites. They knew exactly how many were collected as you have to activate the account in order to download the client. So please spare us the bullshit.
I love how companies think their players base is made up of moronic fanboys that will defend any situation and somehow even manage to put a spin on it and claim victory by saying "Wow, the game is popular beyond belief, great success!" when in truth people can't play the game because of school level programming.
In a week very few people will remember this, but Cryptic has lost a lot of credit today.
Maybe you can buy a patcher that works using MT?

As a Beta tester from way back, I can tell you that they don't have the staff to have one guy spend 10 minutes checking to see if the patcher is working.
Every patch would fix one thing, then break 5 things, I kid you not. The game system is a mess anyway, and the 5 member Dev team doesnt seem to actually talk to one another. So, you get wrecks like patching snafus, etc.
Too bad, I really wanted this game to be fun, but it is just awful, and getting ... awfuller..
The need to change the title of the game to mimic its success so far/. Champions online will now be known as HAHA YOU FELL FOR IT YOU DUMB FUCK
PS Where is our 15$ dollars
Oh and im still trying to patch!!!!! Also i patched all the way to like 70 megs left then my patch crashed wouldnt open and kept giving me an error msg. Not something everyone else was complaining about some completly unrelated problem. So i made a support ticket. The actually removed the support ticket system completly thinking i wouldnt notice.
You know a game is going to fail when they Remove the support system from the website so they can ignor you. To make things even better i submitted 2 support questions over a month a go no reply not even yet!!!!!
