Formerly known as Leipzig, GamesCom in Cologne, Germany will be host to several big events in the MMOG genre: the first public demo of Star Wars: The Old Republic, the reveal of the first Age of Conan expansion, to name a few.
Adding to the what is already sure to be an interesting event, will be the presence of Square Enix's sophomore MMOG outing: Final Fantasy XIV.
There are no solid details on what to expect out of Final Fantasy XIV at this year's GamesCom, but to be conservative I would just expect the E3 trailer to be shown again. On the other hand, you never know with Square Enix.
GamesCom will run from August 19th to August 23rd, and will take place in Cologne, Germany.

Would not doubt if they show nothing new.... if they do though it probably won't be anything big, SE is probably saving bigger info for the tokyo game show.
I fear this game is going to be rushed out the door to start making money.Square knows they now have a following of players and probably feel the ycan put out anything and it will do alright. It is probably true, but there are those like myself, who are watching/waiting and expect a good quality game.
One thing for sure,Square will have to out do themselves to come up with new and excitign ideas, they have already outdone every MMORPG on the market by miles.I am afraid they have a few ideas and are going to go with it and put out a game.
I am very skeptical because of the last game they put out, that they claimed was suppose to be catered to the North American players. It was nothing new at all,it was an exact clone of all the other FF stuff they have put out.I was so turned off by that LAst Remenant, that now i carry the skeptism in me.
I am hoping with both fingers/arms/legs crossed, but i am not jumping on any bandwagons yet,i am always a wait and see type of person.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Why do you expect any game SE makes to cater to NA players? The large majority of their fanbase is in Japan...
And I don't get the feeling that they're rushing anything. As a matter of fact you should feel comfort in the fact that they plan on extending the beta test this time around which theoretically would make FFXIV more ready for release than FFXI was.
Anyways, I never played Last Remnant. I heard it was a good game though so I'm not sure why you feel the way you do. I mean, their games are going to be similar to one another no matter what so if that's your gripe, sorry, nothings going to change haha. They're making RPGs and they have a certain style. There's only so much they can do to mix it up before they change it so much that it backfires.
Rushed out the door? Excuse me? It has been in development for almost five years. So, nothing is rushed out the door here.
The game will probably be released by the end of 2010. So that's another 1½ year from now. I'm guessing the beta will start at the first quarter of 2010, and they will reveal the dates for the beta period at GamesCom, or the TGS.
What the...?
Even if they just take FFXI and make a 2010 version of it, it'd be better than anything that's on the market right now.
Seriously, they have done things with XI that other games can only think about. One character that can be all classes? Actual storylines? Cooperative features in the battle system? Where are they in modern MMO's?
SE will amaze everyone just by copying those things to XIV, it's quite comical in a way.
If only I had the time or money to get to GamesCom, I'm only two hours from it.
