    WoW is, take ffXI back.

Three guys and a girl are marooned on a desert island. After one week, the girl is so ashamed of what she's doing, she kills herself.
After another week, the guys are so ashamed of what they're doing, they bury her.
After another week, they're so ashamed of what they're doing, they dig her up again.

Pretty much any MMORPG out there is better than FFXI...

You only "heard" that WoW is an amazing game?

All the threads on this board that say WoW is not enough?

The fact that WoW was game of the year on Gamespot and won an award on IGN was not enough?

The fact it's by Blizzard is not enough?

The fact that so many people are having a hard time finding negative things to say about WoW to try and say it sucks compared to other MMORPG is not enough?

The fact that whoever is going to reply to this thread is gonna say return FFXI and buy WoW is not enough?

Look I'm not gonna start comparing what rocks in WoW and what sux in FFXI.  Do it yourself.  There's so many threads, so many reviews, so many things you can find on google by just typing "world of warcraft" to convince you to play WoW instead of FFXI.

If you're a FF fan, keep FFXI, if you want a good MMORPG that everyone is loving, go for WoW.

Some will say to "not follow the flock", cause yes, so many people are playing WoW.  But how many of those thousands of people are still playing, are still having fun, and are still loving WoW?  So many FF fans bought FFXI and were disapointed.  While so many WoW bought WoW just cause it's Blizzard and it's still growing.

If you play 20 hours a day with higher level support, maybe.

I currently have FFXI.  What makes this game interesting is the big world you can adventure through.  You may like it if you like to play games for a long time.  It has a pretty good community and you can always use the translate feature to talk to japanese people.  Once you get into a linkshell (guild) you will probably enjoy the game a lot more because of the fact that you have people that can help you it.  I know because the guys in my ls are all higher than 30 and they help me out a lot even though I am only lvl 11.  This first 20 levels are a little bit long and boring, at least they were for me, but at around 20 you will have fun since you have the choice of getting a sub job and you can get a ohocobo license.  Many of the quests take a long time so if you dont like spending much time on a ga,e then you should not play it.

K, this is what I think you should do (and is what I will prolly do)- keep you're FFXI and play that for a month and if you don't like it cancel your content ID.  Also buy WoW and do the one month free thing. See how you like it and if u dont then return it.  If you dont like either then try some other MMORPGs. image

    Peace,

    Funseiki

FFXI and WoW are extreme opposties.

WoW - Fast leveling, easy gameplay, soloing is equal, if not better, than grouping for XP.

FFXI - Slower leveling, difficult gameplay, grouping is not only effective, but required for all but one class.

i actually pre ordered FFXI and i was highly dissapointed. i held great respect for square soft, and then square enix came in and completly threw out my love for the company by giving me that horrendous game. it didnt even have anything to do with final fantasy. and dont get me started on FFX.... blizzard is my top favorite devolper now.

    The thing about WoW is.
Although you can level fast to lvl 60.
    Its like Diablo.
Most people who maxed one char, maxed another char maybe two.
Its fun, and different chars play quite differently,
for example, Rogues and Warriors dont have mana, they handle combat VERY differently.

playing different classes is like playing a different game almost. It has amazing replay value.
Basically its a mmorpg where you can reach endgame.. even if you are a casual gamer, but it still has the appeal to do it all over again.

WoW have a much better level skills system. It's more fun to lvl your charactor and speacialize your talent with different skill.  Where FFXi skills are boring in my opinion.

It depends a lot on what kind of game you like. FFXI is a typical Eastern made MMorpg. It is slow, you need to use loads of time to get anywhere and everybody is a clone of the others. The individual counts little by himself but is the group that rocks as evidenced by the fact that A)you cannot solo past XX level and B) there is a combat system in place that grants you lot of nice damage adds and things like that ONLY when you fight in group.

So, if you like Eastern-made Mmorpgs and have really lot of time to spent on it, have lot of friends to play with and you like taking a lot to do anything, then FFXI is a hell of a Eastern-made MMorpg.

WoW, on the other hand, is the pinnacle of Western-made MMorpgs. You can solo with virtually any class, each character is diverse and unique than the next (if not in appeareance in talent build and abilities), each class plays differently and is unique and varied. You CAN group and there are some parts of the game (ie: instances) where you need to group, but soloing remain a viable option.

Anything in WoW is studied to remove the "not fun" activites from the game. Downtime is low, travel time is fast, death is painless and so on. It is a game, and a great one at that.

Now you can choose :) Of course if you just bought FFXI, spending another 50 dollars on a game might not see quite nice. So, try FFXI now that you have it! i can assure you that by the time your free month expire in FFXI, WoW will still be here. No need to hurry , friend :)

WRONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! I loved the FF series. Then I got FFXI. Oh. My. God. Wat a poorly thought out game *that* was. I didnt take all my frens advice with that one. None of my frens would play, so I went in it alone (cuz, like, I don follow the flock so to say, Ima rebel I guess... Or stupid). >.>

FFXI might be alright if GMs solvedavoided problems. Bottersgilsellers monopolizing NM drops, problems with skillchaining onto HNMs, which would cause them to come unclaimed, MPKing at HNMsmini HNMs. Partly devs fault, but rules are also not enforced by GMs.

Also, ppl who came from the FF series n had nvr touched an MMORPG in their life, who think its funny to MPK ppl by kicking the puller when theyre reaching camp. Again, GMs do nth.

Even tho Ive only played WoW for a total of ard 4 hrs, but reading everything I could find on it, I can say that WoW is planned out *sooo* much better. Youre not gonna delvl cuz some jerk decides to MPK you. Drops cant be monopolized for 1 person's advantage. Basically, this game is not gonna cause you tons of grief becuz of the way the game was planned out.

If you wanna wait 6 hrs for a crappy party wholl prob get you killed, n if you wanna constantly compete vs botsgilsellers, play FFXI.

If you donwanna go thru all the grief, play WoW.

Speak for yourself. It's a shoddy game with a short lifeline. Kind of like a hamster, cute, but only lives a short while :P

i have no idea why everyone is that much level focused ... wow isnt a game where level really should keep your attention ... the thing about wow is getting one or many chars well equipped (includes all the really rare tradeskill recipes) and then battlegrounds soon ... not because almost all other games have to make leveling harder to get any interresting content into the game means every game has to be like that ;)

  • sygmassygmas Member Posts: 949

People bank on the leveling issue because they see it as a form of character development. It's a trend even outside of MMORPGS, in RPGs and even to some abstract extent in FPSes. It's a progressive level of power 'certification', as you continue through the story you get stronger, either through level, or in the case of a FPS you get access to new weapons or abilities that are much more powerful. People swat at WoW for the extremely easy leveling curve because you aren't spending enough time within your level ranges to really explore the progress you've made. Day 1 youre lvl 1 and before you know it you're 60 and not much has happened besides some relatively generic questing.

And theres no real 'thing' to any game really -- people all have their specific desires out of the games they play and some want the longer grind, some don't. Some look for all sorts of different things in these games.

But I'm viewing WoW objectively when I say it blows goat nuts. Just doesn't have a lifeline, a very very large # of the population are the types of players who burn through content, cap out and move on to other games. So while the subscrip level is high now, its going to fall off very very severely in the coming months.

And with all the servers there are now to handle the current load, the pop will be spread so thin the servers will all feel like it's been several years and is a old MMO past its prime ...ironically, the graphics fit that soon-to-be feeling, and will probably make it all the more convincing. Time warp!

That is the most accurate resume I read so far.  (soloing is not better then grouping in WoW, but soloing is better then wasting time to build a group or grouping unefficient folks, yes)

Add that high end content for WoW is restricted to raiders, all to the pleasure of the Afterlife *insert any negative comment on the server filter*.

    Hmm lets see

WoW- Want to reach level 60 in very little time with no trouble and have nothing to do when you hit there?

FF-Want to have somewhat of a challenge?

Id go with FF if i still had the game. It actually gives you a challenge. The only problem with FF is that theres not many people(IMO) and some of the monsters look like POkemon.

Games Played:DoAC, EQ, CoH, Lineage 2, Planetside, Shadowbane, EQ2, EVE, WoW Beta
    Playing:(Waiting to buy WoW)

WoW 2 weeks to level 60...hmmmmm I must suck then. Today is 1 month of playing for me and I am level 30. I play for a few hours every day. I do quests, I craft a little, I chat and go PvP with the guild or duel outside of Ironforge. What I do NOT do is grind xp mobs over and over again. I watch people do it and its so boring. I like to get into the game and actually explore its complexity at each of the different levels. Those people who are just grinding away at WoW, EQ, DaoC and others are missing out on alot of stuff. I am firm believer in the journey, not just the end.

Look if you want to play a game for 20 hours a day you can get to high level in ALL THE DAMN GAMES fast. When EQ came out it was the same thing, when Daoc came out it was the same thing. I would see people who never seemed to sleep at all just to level up. Here I am seeing it again in WoW and it does not surprise me.

Can you level up faster in WoW then the other games? Sure but is NOT by as much as you might think. The people who are 60 now most of them played for months in the beta with high level characters AND have been playing 18-20 hours a day for weeks. Those were the 1st to 60 and the next group coming up on 60 are the ones who are new to the game but also play for 18-20 hours a day. It also seems to take the totally hardcore people longer then 2 weeks, I would say its more like 3 weeks. Nobody on my server was 60 2 weeks after launch that much i can tell you. I did see 60s at 3 weeks though, but I saw 50s on Daoc at 3 weeks also, and EQ was 5 years ago so my memory is not so good but I remember seeing very high levels a few weeks after launch and they would be on when I went to bed and on when I woke up
