OK well I just inserted my new 3DFORCE 6800. I recently had a FX 5200 and the game ran like a piece of shit. Minimum graphics and it stil llagged like hell and looked like runescape. I quit after a day because it was almost unplayable. Should I be fine now?

Games Played:DoAC, EQ, CoH, Lineage 2, Planetside, Shadowbane, EQ2, EVE, WoW Beta
Playing:(Waiting to buy WoW)

Network lag is something COMPLETELY different then FPS lag.

You probably have a shite PC, or not enough ram? I was able to play the game fine with an ATI Radeon 9800 pro.

i have a 3.2Ghz Pentium 4, 1gig PC3200 ram, and an ATI RADEON 9600XT and i can run the game on balanced with high quality lighting and a bunch of water effects on, plus the resolution at 1280x1024 and i still get absolutely no lag unless im in extremely crowded areas,

I have played the game on 2 different machines with good results. My main is a 3.0 P4, 9800 pro/128 and 2gig of ram. I run EQII at balanced or one above with very good FPS and very little network lag. I play on the Antonica server. The other box is a 1.6 P4 512 ram and a nvidia ti 4200/128 video card. On that machine I run at high performance setting and get 30 - 40 FPS. Of course I can tweak the graphics higher and bitch about the performance if I wanted to on either box.

On the network lag issue I am playing the other big name game at the moment also and get terrible lag. Mobs constantly run through me. This is on a low population server. Looting and auctions usually have at least a 2 or 3 second lag delay etc etc. However I can run it on it's highest performance settings with good FPS, at least on my main machine.

    I miss DAoC

Actually this has to do with neither network lag or FPS lag. Currently many 6800 series cards are having "stuttering issues" with Everquest 2. Either this is a fault in the eq2 code or bad nvidia drivers. So its not "a shite PC".

I get a very similar problem in EQ I with an XFX 6800 GT, but nothing else. DAoC runs perfectly, along with many other games, such as battlefront on the heaviest of servers. I am gonna have to say its a sony issue.

Yep stuttering a known issue with geforce 6800.Strangly SoE seems to advertize nvidia as the card to use however my brother's system uses a X800pro and it runs the game smooth on high quality with no stutter or problems at all.

Well, besided EQ2, 6800 GT is a much better card than the x800 pro. Remember this is only one game, I have so many different problems in OpenGL games with my PC with a ATI card.

I have a gigabyte 6800 GT, and I have NO lag at all. My specs are set to max everything, the only thing I do not have on is shadows and flora. The game runs very smooth, I only get lag in the cities, partly becaues of my slow ISP.

The stuttering issues are still not resolved. I do not think I get them, maybe they are just not very noticable.

I wish I had a dime for every person who I have heard talk about upgrading their system to play EQII.  I applaud SOE for putting so much effort into a graphics engine that will still be top of the range in 2006, but at what cost?  How many players is EQII missing because they don't want to drop $300 on system upgrades just for the privilege of paying a monthly fee?

Look at how many performance settings there are for EQII.  It's astounding.  The engine is a work of art, but do heat shimmer or specular lighting really make a game fun?  Some of the settings are almost undecipherable (check out the water effects settings to see what I mean).

EQII runs choppy on my system with 1GB RAM and a 128MB GeForce4.  That same system runs Half Life 2 and Doom 3 with ease.  I wish they would have built a less complex engine and worked more on the time it takes to zone.  I'm getting pretty sick of concept art and load thermometers.

What they are trying to do is make it so people can play a game that still looks good 3 years from now. Most other games that just release a decent graphic game arent going to get alot of new users two years from now. When EQL first came out they were asking for a 3d graphics card, people critisized them for this. Well look at how many subscribtions they got over time, and for a game being almost 7 years old it still looks decent. Graphics are a first impression in a game, so they need to look good. And EQ2 is not lacking in players. Ive never been to a zone with less then 10 people in it. Antonica usually has over 100 and atonica 3 has 80ish to 100.

Yes I did upgrade my system partely for EQ2, but it was for future games too. My old system could hardely run HL2 demo, and when it did, it looks like crap and lagged really bad. Now I have my own computer that I can play any new games coming out.

FX 5500, 764 mb of RAM, 2.4 ghz, I have my settings on high preformance, but have tweaked ALOT of things, i have floral on, only thing i absolutly don't have on is shadows and that wrap around lighting (looks freaky at night and with a torch); and i am running my game very acceptably, i get lag of course, mostly in qeyons/freeport, and in plainly crowded areas, other then that, I am running it smoothly, and don't have any need/want to upgrade it anymore.

    This is my system.

    AMD 3000+ S939
    Gigabye 6800 GT
    1gig pc 3200 ram
    200GB Sata 7200RPM HD

The game runs perfect on this system. I load into new areas in 10-15 seconds. The reason EQ2 has so many options is so you can tweak the performance to the video card you have. If I put shadows on or flora it takes a big hit to my FPS. So I dont have them on. Bloom doesnt take away too much FPS so I leave it on and it looks really cool. I love how EQ2 has so many options, its makes it so you can get peak performance, and you can change things you like/dont like.

Yes, there's an issue with the 6800's... A possible work around/solution is detailed here for anyone who is having issues with their 6800.
