since open beta players have commented that ROM has above average graphics for a free to play game but many also have complained about how this game is optimized. complaints about lag and low fps rates are quite casual and not unnoticed, even by high end users.
in theory you only need the equivalent of a GeForce 5700 Videocard to run this game but it's rather complicated to predict how a specific card and pc does react.
the GeForce 7XXX series cards seem to react particularly badly to this game (something which i can testify after my 'new' 7950 GT card broke down after only minutes of playing, that's why i post this warning).
monotoring and precautions are no luxury when playing this game.

Shenanigans! I play RoM at 1920X1200 resolution with high settings on a Dell Inspiron E1705 Laptop with an NVidia GeForce GO 7900 GS 256MB, 2GB 667MHz RAM and a T7400 Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.16GHz. The game runs great. I do get some stuttering in heavily populated towns like Logar, but--overall--the game runs extremely well. I've never had a problem with it.

Sounds like your card was defective, just rma it. Its always funny too see when people blame the game they are playing for killing their various computer parts.
Maybe your system isnt properly cooled and it just overheated the card to the point of failure.

I have an Ati 4890. The card runs everything else just fine, including the throwaway (but pretty!) game "HAWX" that it came bundled with, yet somehow, runes of magic lags for me. Oh, this is on a fresh installation of windows.

i'm sure there are players who have no problem whatsoever, otherwise this game would have no players lol.
but i've played this game for about 6 months now since the start of the open beta and i've seen countless of topics about graphics related problems. some were posted by high end users and of course those can run the game but they're also the ones who're very touchy about framerates and temperatures and they love to compare with other games.
meanwhile i can tell you the exact hotspots in game because all this time i've played with a card which is not even officially supported by the game so i had my fps indicator open all the time to avoid those hotspots where the game is nearly unplayable for me due to the frame lag. i could tell you that this exact card has much less problems for any other game i played with it so far and looks like i'm stuck with this old card again for a while.
i'm sure there was 'something' wrong with my new 7950 card one way or another but when i say this game seems to have trouble with 7xxx series then this is not based on my findings alone but on those of a relatively high amount of others who proportionally get kicked out the game more than others ... like i said my own card only lived 5 minutes so i can't base a real judgement for a series only based on that but it does tell me it's a good idea to mention potential troubles so others might avoid them.
i'm sure some players out there appreciate a warning about potential hardware problems because those things can cost a bundle of money if not taken care of so it's never a bad idea to monitor how your system performs in a game which in my opinion has a bad optimization. that doesn't mean a particular setup will have problems, just that the possibility exists.
no grand theft auto 4 is a power beast. Runes of majic works find if you have a card made in the last 2 to 3 years.
Many times lag in MMO's has nothing at all to do with hardware. Sometimes it does, Yes, depending on your configuration.
But It very well could be server load on their end, or somewhere in between you and the main MMo server that causes it.
I havent tried this game yet, but am in the process of DL'ing iot now. Hope its fun!
<<--- Ok, been playing awhile now. Im just wondering from those who may have higher lvl toons. Hows this game in later lvls? So far its pretty decent, but im still just starting. I mean, Sure, theres better MMO's out there.
But for a completely Free To Play MMO, this is pretty good. Much better than 99% of the F2P games without a doubt..
its not you its all the transition point and logar iws one of the worst since they got 3 plus when you login so lag
a lot but rom will fix the dungeon transition issue it cause memory leak or memory or something like that

I have an AGP Nvidia 7600GS and can run RoM at full settings for hours on end with no problem.

I think I liked it better when you were grounded.

Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. ty for your post when you wrote agp ,i decided to recheck my setting in my computer and thats where my problem was
my advice stick to microsoft setting in vista sorry if i doubted rom now i run smooth everywhere(took a while to check all the change i had done lol)
have you tried making the resolution smaller under display setting - the graphics might be dull but it's a whole lot better than lagging
I don't see this game as "Heavy on Graphic Cards" almsot any MMO can be turned up to look very nice or turned down to be playable on older systems. As for the Nvidia 7 Series having issues, I have dual 7950 GX2's running 1GB of ram each in SLI mode. I ran at max settings for EVERY setting and the only LAG I see is when transporting into Logar, once it loads I am fine as well as for any other zone I am in.
Rom is actually full of coding mistakes, they claim they are working on the fixes. There is the possibilty of making a great zone that would task your system a ton,but this is not the case in ROM,objects are limited, there is not a lot of bot pathing, not a lot of sound and music files.I am not sure the capabilities of this game engine, but in the ancient UT99 engine, you could create invisible zones and the engine allowed you to check your own work to make sure no zone had too many polys and would lag your game.It would also allow you to check for improper mapping and show your over use of textures if was the case. All in all ,if a developer put out any effort at all, they should know how well each map zone will play out.
I also noticed that the game does not over use shaders or shading or heck anything that creates GPU lag.I fiddled with ALL the sliders and got VERY little response from any of them.Things like turning shaders right off, should or [normally]yields a high response to FPS's.Changing view distance from high to bottom end again, not much frame gains anywhere.Even the lighting effects, bloom all of it ,yields very little frame gains, the problem is obviously in their coding.
I also noticed "their" specs for running this game, well my older PC meets those specs but cannot play the game at all.
