So ... I have been checking out AION and it looks amazing and I have been thinking about leaving Perfect World for it.
But someone said that it has hourly game charges. I searched and searched everywhere on the web and can't find anything much more than a tiny footnote that says "monthly fee applies".
Ok, I don't mind paying a reasonable monthly subscription, but the idea of every online hour costing money really turns me off. I also heard somewhere that the CN/Korean version DOES charge by the hour.
What is the difference between NCSoft Gamecards and Timecards?
Can anyone clarify any of this? We had a bit of debate in my Guild at PWI about this and no one knew the answer.
Thx in advance.

Nope definately not.
Aion will follow the standard NCSoft west sub package which is £9.99 per month Uk or $15 per month US
Yes china and korea do charge per hour but I think that is Law to use that method there as a bit of a deterrent towards overplaying due to mortality rates associated with MMO's.
not that it achieves anything other than people spending more money if they want to pull 3 days solid they will do.
No it is not hourly charged, Aion will be the same as every other mmo released in the west, it will actually be cheaper than alot of other mmos such as WoW, Warhammer or AoC, so economics should not be a reason to disregard this game
Thanks guys for the quick replies. I wish they would make that more obvious on the AION website and with the retailers.
The pre-order is tempting but when they don't even tell you "officially" what your monthly subscription is going to be before you buy, that kinda sucks.
But yeah if it is $15 a month I'm there ... goodbye Perfect World (which is getting very imperfect now) LOL
Its £8.99 per month in the UK, which sounds about right. Their billing systems are already up and running (for digital pre-orders).
They also accept Paypal now, which is kinda cool.
Seriously? It's very obvious it is monthly and that it is $14.99 just like every other AAA MMORPG.

Well the fact that nothing anywhere specifically says $14.99 per month (for certain) even at the retailers like Amazon. Also the fact that the CN/Korean version DOES charge by the hour makes it uncertain.
I personally thought it was definitely a fixed monthly fee until someone in my PWI Guild said they weren't going to play AION because it was hourly. Then when i did a Google search the only definite info seemed to point to hourly charges because that was what was on the CN version forums.
So no it isn't obvious.
It is $15 a month. I enjoyed the beta enough and miss the game enough now that I can't play that I said "what the hell" and purchased it. It has a listing when you do of what the monthly fees will be. Basically $15 a month if you go monthly or you can do 3 month, 6 month, etc. payments that equal out to less than $15 a month the same as most other p2p games do.
Its kind of funny that I ended up buying this game because honestly if I wouldn't have gotten into the beta I probably wouldn't have checked this game out until way down the road when they finally offered a free trial because I really wasn't that interested in the game beforehand.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

Ah how much better a game could be with buying time for many people.
But no no, American's want it their way. Which is silly, since, paying for what you play would work for more people. I know I know, flame away, yadda yadda.

The knowledge you seek can be found here. NC Soft has a knowledge base that might answer any other questions you have as well! I find it pretty useful. (^_^)
$15 dollars sound reasonable. Hope they can offer discount if you can buy like 6 mth in advance.
