Blizz killed wow the last few patches them self, by making it all to easy, all dps is the same out put the healers are almost the same and the tanking classes the same to, so it is to easy to pug everything and getting epix and getting special patterns are also to easy to get...

i can not wait to try out Aion i hope the PvE side of Aion will be as good and hard as it was in WoW classic...

So true indeed.  EQ crapped out expansions so fast Smed had to promise to slow them down to focus more on quality (which is how a president of a company says his product is crap).  The irony of Kilmar making those claims is just awesome.

    @OP

Blizzard announces all their big news at blizzcon.  It had nothing to do with Aion releasing.  The expansion will most likely not even be a remote possibility for at least 6 months.

Exactly...they could release Cataclysm unfinished and WOW players would buy it...but those silly bastards at Blizzard will probably wait a year and a smidge  until it is almost completely perfect and polished...only then to release the xpac. Ridiculous and Harrummpphhh!! ......I imagine no one will buy it then.

Anyone leaving for Aion will still leave for Aion. Most who are leaving are leaving because they are either bored or unhappy with WoW currently. They know as well as anyone else it will be a year to a year and a half before any xpac comes out. Even If it sounds interesting they would more than likely still try out Aion for a change then come back later on for the xpac.

I said, they could ;) Of course they dont, but if they would, you and others would call it perfect and polished, however it really was :)

Just weird about WoW's timing with Aion. Could it have anything to do with WoW employee's playing Aion, then announcing the new patch?

I'm still going to buy Aion on opening day.

All the WoW expansion announcement has me considering doing is buying the expansion, playing it through and then probably quitting again. Depends on what they do with it.

Yeah, I will probably buy the expansion, level my characters to 85, probably run up a new alt using one the two new races and then I'm out.  I play WoW like I would play a FPS.

As sick as I am of WoW after what seems like a decade of playing, there is no way I'm not going back to see the Barrens torn in two by a giant lava canyon and there is no freakin' way that I'm not going to fly around Azeroth on a mount.  I find it kind of astounding that Blizzard is essentially going to destroy the old world.  Bold move on their part.

Still going to play Aion, though.

The expansion is interesting but not enough to get me to go back. I don't think anything could. WoW got boring and changing the scenery of places I've leveld up at it, is hardly exciting to me.

     Aion it is! :)

I been playing WoW since its opening....and I'm little disgusted with how easy and how bad the community is on that game now....I quite WoW when closed beta started with Aion with no intensions of returning to WoW

with all the new MMOs thats coming out champions online aion and FF14 blizzard is threatened by the new generation of MMOs thats comeing out their for they had to make a quick expansion to keep the WoW players into the game not to mension to try to bring back older players that quite the game....the new WoW expansion is just blizzards way to try to number 1

What great they about these games you you can flip flop back and forth... if you wanted too.

Play Aion for something different, they go back to WOW for the xpac, for a while... until Aion releases their own then go back to Aion, or switch to one of the other MMOs... choice is a wonderful thing.

The new Wow exp3 trailer suck. real suck.  worest trailer

  • BobthesalerBobthesaler Member UncommonPosts: 37

I'm 90% sure this will have little to no efect on how well Aion dose in it's release. The question is how Aion plans to deal with it when it hapens. It all depends on how well Aion hooks there users on the game, and also depends what WoW is adding.

My guese is it will damage Aion for the the first few months while there WoW'ers catch up on the Xpac, get bored, and leave again to eyther go back to Aion or some other game.

  • aesperusaesperus Member UncommonPosts: 5,135

Blizzard making a new expansion around this time doesn't really have anything to do w/ Aion per-se, but I think it's pretty obvious they have planned their expansion schedule so that they are consistantly being released in competition with when the competition's games are most likely to be released.

However, them choosing to release this information around this time, is more than likely a PR stunt to try and pull attention off of Aion, and some of the other MMOs that have been showing off their progress lately.

Phew I was expecting a fanboi IN YO FACE thread saying Aion sucks and whatever, I was suprised.

  • catamount13catamount13 Member Posts: 8

To be honest, i just looked at what their offering, and i just shake my head. It seems like a desperate attempt on their part to keep throwing new shiney toys to play with and new holes to poke around in at their players to prevent them from griping about the major problems with their game. Worgen as alliance?  please let them take the bloody elves or something... i saw only one thing in the trailer that made me go 'wow' which was the erethral dragon, apart from that, i couldn't care less... i could hop on the game now... my paid time isn't up, but i have not logged on in a month because i just don't care. i played for years and i know enough about their lore and their game to see through the pretty colours and new shinies, it just looks like and 'oo' 'ahh' for about a couple months then you find yourself running around killing level 5s for the hell of it wondering why your still playing. However, that said, i sincerely hope that the kids DO stay on wow and play with their new toys and let aion stay mature.

I'm going to go ahead and do a hype translation of Cataclysm to reality.

We're pretty much completely out of fresh ideas for the game so instead of hiring some fresh eyes we're just going to retcon the entire game. Hell, we're already going to retcon Ony....even though lore-wise she's dead. We'll probably retcon all of MC and BWL too. We're also going to go ahead and ignore all of the reasons we've given in the past for not making certain races be able to play certain classes.

And we're going to ignore the reasons for keeping goblins neutral, horde can stop whining now. And bear in mind that we're doing this now even though we ignored the fact that we made gnome warriors right off the bat. With as much sense as that still doesn't make, this new x-pac makes even less.

Look forward to a bunch more meaningless crap reputation grinds. See we can throw in reputation grinds and hundreds of repeatable quests with achievements and most of you are stupid enough to think that's actual content. We're still not going to do anything about PvP, we think it's fine how it is since we're huge fans of grinds. We figured out how to make an extremely grindy game and have no one complain by simply shoving all of the grind to after you're done leveling. There's still far more extremely grind heavy aspects to the game than many of our contemporaries, but we know most of you are too stupid to realize this.

    --------------

No offense meant to anybody. I used to play WoW, but just got fed up with it. Magical (literally) massive STARSHIPS to introduce the draenei was pushing it and I mean REALLY pushing it. A SECOND cataclysm though? Come on now, what the hell? 80-85 could just introduce the twisting nether or the friggen emerald dream. Actually explore more of the lore already set down rather than do this bs.

Blizzard clearly realizes that most of their customers are stupid. Products of modern civilized propaganda machines, regardless of country apparantly. Well, maybe this means that the people at Blizzard who actually have more than a spec of creative thought in 'em are working on their new project.

For me the trailer of GW2 had more impact on how i look at Aion now then the wow xpac really.

Still going to play Aion though :)

Death in WoW, isn't necessarily permanent...

Deathwing and Azshara are part of the lore...

i hated burning crusade, so did lots of other people, we quit wow because we hated it and never went back, sadly blizzard likes the ignorant masses that keep running on its treadmill dropping all their pocket change into the machine of mediocrity so it wont die anytime soon.   doesnt mean we will go back and play it though.

Aion is no longer an alternative to play with WOW2 just being announced.
It is the first time in the MMORPG history that an expansion does not just add another zone.
This "thing" will relaunch effectively the adventuring in classic - but changed - Azeroth as if it were WOW2, but this time with the Blizzard  techniques already seen in the past year (phasing, mounted combat.... rated Battlegrounds this time and effectively new PvP zones of the good old times).
Instead of thinning out player bases (like normal expansion packs do), it effectluvely regroups the orginal settings and - most important - players.
Very nice, instead of thinning out with just another added zone.out they do player concentrations throughout all levels.
---> Saying this million seller - going back to roots blockbuster -  will have no impact on the 200K subs of Aion in Mar/April next year is wishful thinking.
But hey, you may all dream of course :)))))

This is exactly what I was thinking, with each new expansion the playerbase was getting spread between all the continents, and IF and SW got empty and everyone moved to shatt, then dlaran, and each znes got emptier, but now with this, its brings everyone back to the old world, and makes it less spread out.

People that reroll dont have to do the previous expansion zones? and when it settles wont it leave Outlands and northrend  empty ish?

With this roll out, they can go do a dynamic history cycle not seen before in an MMO, without calling out #2, #3 etc;...
EQ2 was the classical way of "rebooting" EQ and ... not very succesful.
Blizzard does the re activision in a historic cycle in the game itself ... new graphs included

Thats what im saying it will leave Outlands and Northrend pretty empty. except for the people that reroll, untill the 4th xpac when they maybe revamp outlands
