While I understand the selfsupporting Aid group of shocked Aion fans over here..... ------- Aion is no longer an alternative to play with WOW2 just being announced.
Shocked... hardly, this is what I come to expect from Blizzard
It's at least 8 month out... if not a year or more.
That more then enough time for Aion to be alternative to WoW, until the xpac hits... it isn't going to effect Aion at all.
Will Aion take a hit in subs when it does, sure, but the player who really like Aion will come back once they get there full of WoW again.
There is a good chance I'll play both at the same time (meaning having active sub to both) when WoW's new xpac has lost it's newness.
Zorn you really to expand you horizons a bit, WoW isn't the say all be all of MMOs, just the most popular.
Great game, but hardly what you make it out to be.
Me I still love the game, but I want something somewhat different, yet at the same time somewhat familiar, for awhile... Aion is giving that too me.
I mean I played WoW for 4 years... I need a nice long break from it.
Yeah this XPac is definitely going to fix WoW's problem of 100% of end game content being instanced, the only forms of PvP existing in the same old BG's and Arena, gear resets with instanced dungeons. At least they make new instanced dungeons with each xpac so raiding them 400 times to get a set of gear that is made obsolete with each new expansion isn't that tedious.... Oh wait damn they are just redoing existing instances and making them heroic. Oh well at least players won't be so distanced from each other starting out... Oh wait phasing.. I guess they will be just as seperate as ever. Man Zorndorf I can see why you think this is WoW 2. I don't know how your rabid fanboism hasn't brought me back to WoW all this time.
As many of you know, WoW has announced their 3rd Xpac. Do you think that it was a good time to announce it in order to try and stop many people from going to Aion? And will it work? Will people now not buy AIon on opening day because of the WoW Xpac?
I fail to see the relevance? I doubt Blizzard announces anything because they are afraid their playerbase will disappear because of some other new shiny toy. (That would be Funcom marketing dept. at work - Blizzard have a professional PR dept.)
Aion and WoW are completely different games (do not make yourself sound silly by pulling the "wow-clone" card here )
Both games are IMO great in their field - One is mostly PvE focused with PvP features added as an afterthougt. The other might be weaker in the PvE department but was designed with solid meaningful PvP in mind.
In the end Aion will not "kill" WoW. Neither will WoW, with all the Xpacs in the world, kill Aion. They might have players changing from one game to the other, but basically they appeal to different crowds.
Would be great if Aion manages to attract more (new) players to the MMO genre, instead of being marked with the rather silly "potential WoW killer" label. THIS IMO is an interesting perspective on Aion. I leave the "This game is only successful if it manages to kill of another game" theories to the Zorndorfs of this world
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!! (repeat ad infinitum)
That fail xpak isn't going to even be out for a year and from what I've read of it they are just going down the same road of dumbing down the game and rehashing old content. That game is obviously just trying to hold on to what subs they can while they focus on other projects. I think a lot of the stuff they released will cause some people to give up on that game more than want to come back to play a goblin or fly around old world zones.
I see the upcoming WOW xpac as a good thing for Aion and any other game. It will keep the fanbois happy and do nothing but help the communities of other games.
Zorndorf is not the one who posted a WOW related question in the AION forums...the reverse would have happened if some posted "Anyone think the WOW XPAC III will crush AION into much smaller but similarly boring chunks of shite?"....it invites what you call "trolling".
For those unclear on the meaning of my previous post.....read the above.
Instead of thinning out player bases (like normal expansion packs do), it effectluvely regroups the orginal settings and - most important - players.
People that reroll dont have to do the previous expansion zones? and when it settles wont it leave Outlands and northrend empty ish?
Nope. each zone gets new level requirements. it's a complete new package of Azeroth.
With this roll out, they can go do a dynamic history cycle not seen before in an MMO, without calling out #2, #3 etc;...
EQ2 was the classical way of "rebooting" EQ and ... not very succesful.
Blizzard does the re activision in a historic cycle in the game itself ... new graphs included
Seriously zorndrof, no matter what blizzard put in the expansion you would say its groundbreaking. Get off the Aion forums you fucking troll.

Dude if someone would not by ANY other game simply because Blizzard announced a WoW xpac nearly a year away I would love to never meet, socialize, or have to speak to those people in any medium especially in escaping to gaming.

If you get around like i have over the years,it has been very obvious WOW accounts are just kept open as millions of WOW players are hanging out in other games and especially free trials. There is more WOW players getting bored with the game on a whole, nothing to do with Aion, they are releasing this to regain interest and it seems obvious WOW players get excited by anything Blizzard releases, even before they actually see it implemented. It all makes sense ,you can put 90% of the wow subs into a category of players who jumped in without knowing a thing about the game, they merely follow the trend.
Look at the boards, the forums, they have not even seen the expansion implemented, and they are screaming like Jesus is returning, quite easy to gather this flock of sheep. On a whole i would say Aion will make almost no dent or have any impact on WOW at all,a hundred thousand here or there don't matter if you get more than that returning after playing other free trials, and this is what a LOT of WOW players are doing. There is actually quite a few WOW players playing ROM,it is quite a WOW copy,so ya AION should be of little interest to Blizzard.
I would be slightly interested to see WOW's numbers come release date of AION,but even then i have little faith the numbers game is very accurate at all.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I don't know if that was a slight indicating me as a sample of what to expect of the general wow population. That's fine. I like most of the posts you make...because they are from the perspective of someone relatively my age. (I know because you have stated your age before in other posts....not that we should go bowling or something..just like to hear from an original gamester from time to time...one who starting with Pong plugged into the little uhf box..lol) ...I play a few mmos and tried many.
But for those that were unclear on my previous post...I am merely saying ,,One can not expect an un-trolled and flame-proofed post when you mention a certain mmo in another mmo forum..stressing competitive issues. Of course people are going to cry fail on both sides...and verbal sparring is the end result.. Now...sure..AION's not the mmo for me...I don't think I've found an mmo for me yet. But since I enjoy games...I have found a few I can enjoy regularly...WOW is one..AoC...SWG...LOTRO..that's all I believe...and I alternate anyway.
That aside..and perhaps more than anyone cared to hear...AION will neither kill nor be killed by WOW. I do think WOW has been set up as easy mode in many aspects...but I enjoy it's lore..world and settings and most quests...and the seamless(mostly)travel and am very hyped for the XPAC.....am I going to dream about it ....doubtful. I get burnt out regularly and play one of the other mmos I 've mentioned ...but usually pop back to WOW for a while.
Now that Champions went open beta today....that may change.( i hope it is decent)..lol..we'll see.
Personally I think this is the worst Expansion they have released. Unless I hear more additions in the future I think that this will be the weakest expansion to date. Only adding 5 levels, no new classes and just redoing the artwork for Azeroth along with some new quests, it seem like the easiest way for Blizzard to make another $40.00 from their customers.
I personally think this is just something to keep people playing for another few years until all attention can be placed on Blizzard's new MMO.
I know this sounds like a WoW troll, but I enjoyed the game for 4 years and I just think this is a fairly weak expansion for WoW.
I really don't think this will affect anything related to Aion. By the time the expansion is out, people would have made up their minds wheither they want to play Aion for the long run. Who knows, by the time this expansion is out, Aion may have one ready to go : )
As many of you know, WoW has announced their 3rd Xpac. Do you think that it was a good time to announce it in order to try and stop many people from going to Aion? And will it work? Will people now not buy AIon on opening day because of the WoW Xpac?
Aion isn't going to hurt Blizzard no matter how you look at it. The game is yawn and will lose it's shiny feeling in a few months.

Well
Millions of asian players disagree with you.
Aion already has more than a few months.
Don't forget most WoW players are asian players too, so you just can't use the "ooh, this only happens in Aia, it doen't matter" argument.
So, your agrument is just a personal opinion, AION already prooved it is not "yawn" and it has long term appeal for the majority of players who enjoy its style.
Lol @ wizard have you seen or read the post and inf for that expancion pack for wow omg dude that is a joke wtf are you talking about if they come out with that crap they are loosing ppl

See you in WoW 2!!!! EXCITEMENT.
Why do people make it sound like if the new wow expansion was any different than when blizzard announced wotlk?
It's more of the same, more battlegrounds, more instances, more classes to reroll with and more levels.
Blizzard is to busy playing other MMO's undercover to steal ideas and to inject them in there new unanounced MMO.
Thats why wow's third expansion is half-assed since it doesnt bring realy anything new on the table.
I fail to see the relevance? I doubt Blizzard announces anything because they are afraid their playerbase will disappear because of some other new shiny toy. (That would be Funcom marketing dept. at work - Blizzard have a professional PR dept.)

Why would Blizzard have to worry about Aion?
Aion won't appeal to many of the western players due to the graphics style it has.
Forced pvp isn't big with casual players so it will have similar subs as WAR and AoC in Euro and US.
I really don't care about the other markets Aion is in.

You seem to have anger control issues.
What Zorndorf is saying is 100% correct. Are you really that frustrated with Wow's success?
WoW has infinite possibilities to grow and evolve overtime. Aion is simply a new game heading toward the 100-200k sub NA/Euro area.
Best thing about WoW is that if Aion adds a great mechanic into its game Blizzard will just copy it and make it much better for us.
