Why not more like the old school paper and pencil rpg?

Ok... was very excited when I heard Champions was coming out with an mmo... I played the old system paper and pencil. I played Marvel, Dnd, DC, a lot of them, and Champions was a really great point based system. I was hoping they'd use that style of character development and creation in this game. I thought that was exactly what they were doing. You could choose advantages and disadvantes for the powers... You could change the range, totally customize everything about your character. So... I've played the game for a few days now, long enough for a first impression. Have to say, I think I expected too much. The game reminds me quite a bit of city of heroes. The game mechanics are a little different. Little easier to get your travel power, but when it comes down to it the true character customization is not there or I don't really see it yet. Let me lower my damage and increase the range. Let me lower the range and increase the effect. Let me choose my type of energy from my energy weapon. Give all the creatures running around unique builds, random builds, so that each one is new and has different resistances to different energies. Spawn them randomly on their builds. Build them on a set amount of points like you used in the old paper and pencil rpg. Every once and a while you might get the uber creature that a group has to gang up on to take out just because he was spawned with a very effective build. That'd be a good reason to get together. When a creature kills a player, should be some sort of reward there. If he gets too powerful, let him wander off to another area. We need randomness. We need unique situations. We need a system where now and then, things happen because of a collection of random events coming together. Better AI where creatures have needs and wants and will take a hostage or rob someone to get what they need. To further their ultimate goals and likes. Why can't anyone do that?
