Peter Porkers Champions Online Review (Straight Up, No BS Like it is)

Okay, after 4 days of CO and im ready to spill the beans..

Character creation... I made great clones of famous people, all the favorite super hereos that come to mind and many of my own... you'll spend easily an hour or two making your characters...

The game is ray-traced cartoon style graphics / terrain etc.. not my cup of tea, somewhat tolerable... the only complaint i really have is that your character in the creator, is WAY more brighter in game.. so if something is bright in the character creator, tone it down a bit or its going to blind you in game

The sound? lots of sound going on.. definately wont hear the phone if your wearing headset... too much..never stops sound...

is it good or bad? im not one of those picky sound people.. as long as it aint gay rap music or whatnot.. whatever.. but stop that friggan siren ringing over and over. geezus.

Classes.. The game is a hybrid system where you can pretty much pick whatever mix or match of the stereo types you want to be.. melee, and ranged based.. and healing too i guess, havent toyed too much there. I found this to be cool and also to suck. I found many bugs where things were not even working, such as i wanted a bite attack for my shark character, which i seen before but for some reason i needed to have arrows to select it lol.. not a good bug to have just a couple weeks away from launch.. All in all, it dwelves down to some attacks generate energy, then you have attacks that dispel that energy with way more damage from those of course... thats how the entire sysytem works..

Its a button masher, and spacebar pounder.. fairly quickly paced, jumping around all crazy, doing the same crap over and over though..... the one thing i truly hate about this system is the fact when you do your high damage attack, it seems to auto switch to energy attack, and thus i press energy attack button and it turns it off.. so for a while im always not attacking.... after 3 days i still have this aggravating problem... you don't get used to it.. its unnatural and hopefully this is a feature you can disable, or better be.. i think they made it for kids who dont have the dexterity for keyboards and/or to save keyboards life lol

The game world seems awfully small...and yes teh game is massively linear (areas to do quests that you want though, not that you have too.. but what else is there to do?)  and there are not servers of people to join, as its purely instance based... Always people around.. In this game it don't matter if someone comes  up and helps kill the guy your attacking, in most cases its appreciated. You all get piece of the pie... Unfortunately, in mass games like this.. its always the people YOU DONT WANT around.. if there is one reason I am already cancelling my subscription for, is the fucking quest stealing jagoffs that are running up and taking the item you are clearing the mobs around to get... So why you are fighting them wasting your time, the other players know this and are purposly running up and take the item.. Not helping you fight.. Its so aggravating and so blatent, (they know they are stealing) I had to disable some 5 nukes lying around and they spawn fast and are fairly plenty. I spent 30 minutes trying one after another, however the people in the area constantly running up and stealing the item as you clear the mobs that spawn when item spans... i had to quit the game is was so aggravating as i got NONE... its THAT BAD. I MEAN REALLY REALLY BAD.. WOW CRAZY BAD.. <--- i can't emphasize this enough.

The first day of questing, was ok, I actually got in some groups, overtime the locusts of morons i think is what kills all MMO games. these locusts of idiots come in and destroy ruin everything for everyone, and soon noone groups anymore... If you want to play this game, you best have a core group of friends or join guild.. otherwise.. the name of the game is Morons Online. The community is very poor, i made some great toons and hopped around waving at people to get my impression, the stupid power rangers out there all telling me my toon was pathetic... Noone ever nice in this game that i have come across.. and i try to wave and talk to everyone i come across... definately you will not be meeting many friends online.. but lots of enemies im sure.

The interface, is ok and horrible as well.. The buttons and all that seem fine for putting your stuff.. a little awkward also wierd you place things in 8,9,0 slots that dont have no effect (maybe later <shrug>) but what I found most annoying was the quest gives and quest menus.. I've done about 250 quests now on 4 characters total and I can honestly tell you, it is so ugly and poorly made, i never read one of them.. absolutely horrid.  So much for storyline... (oh yeah story.. theres some.. comic book size stories.. paragraph here and there with very minimal voiceover)

The inventory and equipment menus.. absolutely horrid, i stopped caring about items and all that crafting after my first toon, just jumbled nonsense strewn about, all of the equipment pretty much same, and whatnot.. just go by level as its that linear and snore bore.. (in beta remember) not caring about this as its not good.

Getting around is also another one of this games problems.. the map system is a complete joke....even doing things on my 2nd and 3rd characters in the same places lefting me shaking my head wondering how i got there or back to base etc....

oh boy, already this message is getting big so i'll get to some main points i want to state.

When I play games, I play for one reason only. TO HAVE FUN.. While this game can be fun and sometimes addicting...This game also is HIGHLY AGGRAVATING, there's things that just dont make sense.. Theres time you are completely worthless and, the attacks are always and nonstop. They become meaningless and don't give any feel of power whatsoever, too many of these "mini-bosses" around, you kill upteem wussies, to generate energy. then have to attack these stupid mini-bosses, which can be way over powering at times.. makes you feel like a complete sissy.

What does it boil down too?? Well I am supposedly a super-hero... I can honestly say, so far I have not felt super any bit whatsoever.

Matter of fact quite the opposite.. I felt really weak every though compared to the others around me i was playing with i was doing far more damage and winning all the PQ's matter of fact, i did about 25 of them, and never did any worse than 1st place..  I just didnt get a sense i was a super hero.

Questing, I dont find the quests entertaining at all.... more aggravating really, since they typically drop an item in the bag the you have to eventually figure out what that item is and how to use it

I didnt find any of the group instances any fun.. you can't solo the bosses so you need a group, but the groups just wipe everything out like you dont even have to be there.. Then they instantly split up.. No comradery in this game... get your need done.. everyone goes their own way.. lol very unsatisfying.

i just say.. As you can see my review has alot of negativity... I can just say go into this game not expecting much and get out of it what you can.. (dream of really being your super hero, dream of forfulling that need will be required to enjoy this game,) This game has alot of flaws and definately is not polished, if you are tight on cash, wait for this one to have more work done.. it needs it.

As for me, I just can't play err pay for games that aggravate me, and this one is on my list for most aggravating game ever.. so ill be eleswhere, maybe you can enjoy it :)

All kidding aside,
Peter Porker

I have none of the problems you had, outside of people stealing quest stuff... which is annoying.

The interface is clean and perfectly fine.

The inventory system is very simple if you take about 15 seconds to just look at it and figure it out.

The item system is actually pretty good, you are given lots of upgrades at a consistent rate, and items have unique effects that you wouldn't see in most games until end-game.  Devices are awesome and can really give your character some flavor.

The map is very very very easy to understand (they put a big green damn circle around stuff, and have markers on the map clearly showing everything).  I do which they would put an arrow system on the minimap pointing to your primary quest objective, just so you don't have to open the map to get your bearings.

I have no idea what your problem with combat is.  But there are multiple options to set up how you want your endurance builder attack to function.  Its an option in the menu.  I have a feeling you didn't even bother to change it to find something that works with your play-style.

If you have trouble using a keyboard (this games setup is no different than any other MMO... so I'm not really seeing the point) you can just hook up a 360 controller and it works great.  Probably the only MMO that you can do that with.

The world is size is fine.  You make individual zones any bigger and traveling around becomes a pain.  More zones will be added, but in the meantime I'm 70% of the way to cap and haven't explored even 20% of the total world.

Grouping options could use an overall improvement, especially scaling dungeons difficulty.

As for feeling super... this is my average fight.

Fly around and find something heavy to throw, usually  a car or truck.  Fly around with this car or truck hoisted above my head.  Find a big group of baddies.  Throw the car/truck at the biggest meanest baddy in the group. Pop a Shield Surge for extra defense, Let loose with a couple blasts of an enormous electric beam in the form of Gigabolt, which basically decimates the henchmen.  Roll in and let loose with a Spark Storm to do massive damage and some knock-backs(its nice damage mitigation), and then pick off individuals that are still alive with a  light-show of Chain Lightning & Gigabolt.

Afterwards I survey the scene, surrounded by multiple bodies, and all the environment are reduced to debri after being completely destroyed as a result of my AoE massacre.  Then I pop back into Flight with a neat little sonic boom, the debri around my feet scatters as I take off....   yep, I feel pretty super.

OP lied sounds like a lot of BS.  =) Its a good fun game.  Its just different from the Norm, which is a good thing.  I just spent 2 hours helping a friend go through the tutorial her husband won't take as long but she will.  =)

Have you NEVER played a game with auto-attack before?

As for the rest, it pretty much went downhill starting from the cool title of this thread.

One thing that everyone should know is that there were legitamate overcrowding problems. Spawns were camped, objectives stolen, hordes of hungry players roving the lands in search of anything to kill. Then in the last patch they lowered the population cap for the zones. There should be fewer issues now. They will raise the caps again once players get to mid and high levels and are more spread out.

    Lol.

People are playing the game since erm .. last Monday? So yeah sure they are still playing it.

Also remember for this super-hero franchise, where people can play the character they want to be like, there's not much choice.

City of X or CO. CoX looks oldschool and plays oldschool. So of course ppl are playing CO now. But for how long?

My toon was lv 30 today after 4 days playing. Cryptic blocked lv 30-40 areas for open beta, so I'm pretty much done with the game now (crafting 300, most missions played).

No I didn't feel very heroic because I had to follow through every mission like everyone else.

Sorrys just figured your post was with /sarcasm lol sorrys man
