I just started playing this game after putting it off for years and I love every second of it.
It's complex and I love it because of that.
Are there any other MMOS coming out soon that will be like EVE?
Comments
I have been tempted to play this too. Isn't it all PVP though? I do not know much about pvp. I think this is what has scared me off of it so far. I am glad to hear you found a game you enjoy.

i've been playing a little over a week and i haven't had to pvp once
all you have to do is stick to secure systems
you can go to nonsecure systems to make more money but you always run the risk of being blown up
What will you do when you eventually want to go to a more dangerous area? Will it be a bunch of peopel attacking a lowbie ? Or do you kknow yet what will happen?
Thanks for the info on it.

all i know is if you go into a zone and you don't have the same tag as someone you'll probably be attacked
you can always run away unless your attacker disables you
greatest sandbox since SWG? yeah. Most complex game since UO? yeah. Best game since EQ? nahh.
Eve is great though.
Playing: WoW, EvE
Interested in: TOR, ER, GW2, WoD, Dust514
I may give this a try. I miss the old EQ.
Thanks

EVE is far more complex than SWG and UO ever was.
EVE is FFA PVP with consequencies determined by security system rating.
System with rating of:
1.0 - 0.5(high sec)
is protected by sentry guns at stations and gates; also there is a Concord protection(police), lower the rating is, higher the response time of Concord fleet(it takes about 20s in 0.5 systems)
0.4 - 0.1(low sec)
is protected by sentry guns at station and gates only
0.0(null sec)
is unrestricted PVP - warp disruptipting area effect, bombs, etc.
Gates on high traffic routes are often camped so yeah, if you are not carefull, you might get blown up pretty quick :-P
Low sec is pretty safe if you know what you are doing.
Thank you guys for the helpful info.

pick up the trial on steam and you get 21 days for free
then you can get 30 days for 15 bucks if you buy the game so you can get 51 days for free
One thing I like to mention to new players: there is no "safe" space once you are undocked. You can be attacked at any time.
In hi-sec, you are safer, because the above mentioned CONCORD will destroy the attackers ship. However, they are there to punish, not to protect. If the cost of destroying your ship is less than the loot likely to be obtained from your wreck, you can and will be attacked anywhere in space.
Give me liberty or give me lasers
You should read some of the other threads here about eve.
Being a "lowbie" (I have no idea how you'd determine wether or not a person is a lowbie..) makes basically no difference. Even a few days old pilot can be a valuable asset in pvp, even if only functioning as bait.
If you jump into a lowsec system, you'll want to watch out and remember; sharks stay close to their sources of food.
If you go into a "more dangerous area" (ie. >=0.4 systems), you'll notice they are usually scarcely populated, and many of the residents will attempt to track you down and kill you. You can be lucky, though, and pass through without anyone noticing - or caring.
Some like to gank newer players, and especially people who auto-pilot. So, when in >=0.4 systems, NEVER autopilot. Unless you have a deathwish, of course.

"Good" MMO ? Yes
"Great" MMO? No
"Greatest since EQ"? Absolutely not
There are a few space MMO's out there but most of them can't hold a candle to EvE, here is a list of some space MMO's that are out or are coming out, hope this helps:
Black Prophecy: **In Development/open beta soon or already started** developed by Reakktor Media, makers of Neocron, with story being written by science fiction and horror writer Michael Marrak.
Starquest online: Eh...imho it's Runescape in space.
Darkspace: Probably the closest thing you'll get to a EvE clone, it has a fairly decent size population but i've heard mostly negative things about it, i haven't played it so i can't comment on it.
This is all of the one's that i can think of that are MMO's, there is ER (Evochron Renegades) which is offline and plays a bit like Wing Commander:Privateer, it's basically a space sim. If you like those games you'll probably like this one as well.
Eve is far better than EQ ever was. From a pure design perspective, coming from a former designer (who may or may not have worked some on EQ) I think EVE is the best MMO ever made, and one of the best games ever made.

It's definitely one of the greatest cures for sleep deprivation ever made. Even if you log in to EQ today, no one is sayin 'When does the fun start?' on open channels, like most do when they try Eve.

That's because EQ was the originator of the grind/raid, grind/raid, quest/grind/raid syndrome that most current gen gamers suffer from. So everyone knows the fun starts at end-game. In fact, the XP grind in EQ was IMO far worse than the money grind in EVE. People must have forgotten just how long it took to do things in EQ.. especially in high end. Just the time it took standing around waiting for people to bring mobs to the group, and the time it took to kill those high-end mobs. Spamming the same couple buttons over and over for a few hours.. and if you're lucky, you might get a single level in those few hours. Odds are, it would take a couple sessions like that just to get a level... and then if someone happened to run by you got to chase them endlessly until they either zoned or insta-camped/gated with hacks.
Just thinking about EQ makes me nauseous. Can't believe my friends ever convinced me to play it as long as I did.
