Attention L2 Players

paradymeparadyme Member Posts: 238

NCSoft is about to implement software on your computer that scans all the programs you run by a third-party company for bots that are interacting with your L2 client. Even though they know L2 bots dont interact with the L2 client.

If you play Lineage 2 please come help us get answers to why this is being installed on our computers without our permission. It's been impossible to get hardly any info on this out of the GM's besides "Your downloading this onto your computer wheather u like it or not".

It's a huge discussion with tons of ppl quiting thought anyone who didn't know would like to know. Oh and don't post in general forms about it your post will be immediatly deleted.

Urgh this topic is really pissing me off, so what if its on your pc as if a big company is going to want your details, why you, really ? why any of us, are we all that special to them, i know im not but then maybe others think they are and they really belive that big company is going to want their lame details and to spy on them lmao, they need to get off their high horse and realise that they are not important to that company, hell i dont even want to know about anyone elses lives, never mind this gameguard company.

Bottom line here is, just realise your not as important as you think they dont care about your age, sex, gender or location or what porn sites you look at.

    Thanks

Not the point, its about keeping the standard in privacy intact as it is so it isnt shredded little by little later down the line or a company without taking proper measure's with their security does this and your info is compremised becuase they were.

I think you need to think things through abit more and look alittle farther ahead then 10 feet into the future.

Ok so to some people its a big thing i admit in my last post i was very much one sided fair enough. But to me it really makes no difference and i don't see why i would quit over somthing so small, ok dont get me wrong id prefer it if they did not add it in just due to the fact that it is yet another extra thing to add to my computer but anyother reasons such as them viewing my name or somthing does not bother me.

Don't suppose i really thought about what would happen if i low security company had this programme and somone got onto their system and used this programme to view personal details. But then im not even sure how deeply this nProtect, Gameguard can even go into ones pc .

Hmmm never know how safe anything is these days i mean are any of us 100% certain that our own private details are not being looked at by someone right now. I guess i just really don't want this small thing to ruin the L2 community, i mean i doubt it will *sigh*.

I apologise about my first post, although some of it is valid and some are takeing this thing way to far.

And the fact that NProtect's main product is Spyware and they have 100% control over any info they collect off of your computer.

You know, the L2 client could be scanning your computer as we speak.  Do you trust NCSoft enough to run the L2 client?  How do you know that the L2 client doesn't scan your computer for personal information?  Unless you have the source code itself, you can never be sure.  You take this risk every time you install or run a program.  The risk just increases with pirated software.  Hell, Microsoft is STILL Beta testing Windows with its customers.

In essance, I aggree with you.  But, you must accept some risk and I think this protection is worth the risk.  I think that they will only look for programs hooking into the l2 DLL files.  Thats how the bots work, they just use the dll files provided by the client.  Any step towards elimating the bots in L2 is a good one.

    Just my two cents.
