Just strolled in.

Good morning and Merry Christmas to all.  I was just browsing the net, looking for things about Ultima Online and I stumbled into here.  Now, I've been playing UO for about 3-4 years now and I have to honestly say it's the best MMO I've ever played.  No other MMO even comes close.

It's hard for me to explain, but UO, it kind of touched me like no other MMO has.  That and the fact that UO was my first MMO.  I basically grew up playing it.  In UO, there is endless possibilities and the community is fantastic.  I could rant for days about my love of UO, but I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about.  I'm just saddened to see all these newbies and kids complaining about graphics, sound, etc.  I don't know about the rest of you, but my very first RPG was D&D and, as we all know, there wasn't anything to that game besides your imagination, some books and dice.

I guess what I'm saying is, is that other companies can keep rolling out MMO's with better graphics and sound, but they'll never achieve the community that UO has.  It seems to me that UO was a giant leap in the right direction and every MMO after that, went backwards.  People complain about level treadmills and that's exactly what UO is against.   People complain about not being able to do anything, but kill monsters, when in UO you can sail around and adventure, go treasure hunting, build houses, craft, etc...the list goes on.   Also, on the topic of music, I actually love the music in UO.  The new, digital music that is.  Very well done.

I just hope that they'll make a new UO, a UO2, which they've canceled two projects so far.  I would like to see the series finally progress, but keep everything it has now in terms of gameplay.  Just expand.  It's really a terrific game and quite enveloping, if given the chance.  I suppose I'm just biased, but this is where I'll stay until they finally cancel it.  When they do, off to a free server I go.  I'm not going to support anymore half-assed MMO's, that are released and published when they're still in their beta phase...well, that's what it seems like to me, anyway.

I was also wondering if there was any news on current projects and updates for UO, besides the Samuria expansion.  I've heard EA was working on new things, but I have no idea as to what it is that they are working on.  If anyone could shed some light on this, I would be very grateful.  I doubt there is any news, besides the fact that they are working on something new, though.

Anyway, I'm just glad to be here, glad I found a place to hang out with others who enjoy UO as much as I do.  I hope all of you have a wonderful christmas and I look foward to talking to you.  Goodnight.

I remember before I quit playing UO years ago, there were some screen caps going around of UO 2 when it was still in development. I wish that game would have made it out. UO was my first MMORPG, and there are certain dynamics I have never seen another game capture, and there is no better roleplay medium then it.

I don't think your hopes are gonna come true though, EA has time and time again canned any new UO project coming out that would be a new expense to them. They keep grinding out mediocre expansions for UO to keep their cash cow going but thats about it.
