I bought this monitor back in February with my new computer. I just recently moved and I'm afraid I may have damaged it somehow. It makes this weird sound, sort of like a squeaking sound, and then the screen flickers. Sometimes it'll just go black for a few seconds and then come back on fine, other times I get two large black bars going down the screen. Usually turning my monitor off and on fixes this problem temporarily. Is my monitor about to crap out on me or something?

Sounds to me like it's wanting to die on you but i'm not so savvy with monitors so to speak. You may want to see if you can't return it for a replacement because obviously it shouldn't be doing that.
This looks like a job for WARRANTY!!!
In that condition, a monitor can operate for a varied amount of time. But you have to live with the wizzing sound, black bars, and so forth.
I have a dell fpw2005 that does the same thing. It causes a loud humming sound, stays on for 30 min - 2 hours then shuts off, then flickers off and on with a black screen. From what I've read, it's due to the PSU inside the monitor. There is really nothing you can do besides replacing the PSU, which I have no clue how to do.
I also have another monitor which had a problem recently. I sent it out to get repaired (under warranty) and they actually sent me a brand new monitor. If you're still under warranty, send it out. If not, I don't think there is much you can do besides paying for repair. I'm not sure how much it will cost, but Asus made me pay for shipping (which came out to around $30). It might be better to just buy a new monitor, but I'm not sure how much they will charge for repairs.
If anything, don't throw the monitor out. I kept mine as a back up, and it worked out. If you don't use the monitor for months, the problem will go away for a short period. Luckily the problem returned back 1 week before my other monitor was shipped back (lasted a bit longer than a month).
Yea I remember reading a guide on replacing the PSU in a monitor and that it's suppose to be pretty easy and not very expensive but I don't remember how or where to get the parts or anything.. might be something for google though if you aren't under warranty.
Okay, thanks a lot for all the help. It's still under warrenty so I'll just get it replaced .
NP, and I just realized you have the same Asus monitor as me. Watch out for the button that switches between HDMI, DVI, and VGA. I'm not sure if this is a common problem, but those buttons are cheap! Mine got stuck cycling between HDMI, DVI, and VGA. I thought it was jammed, and tried to get it unstuck, but that wasn't the problem. I've been real scared about using my PS3 on it now.
Could possibly be a video card issue also.
